Xiaomi has stopped connecting to the network, requires re-authorization or does not see your Wi-Fi at all? Network reset is the first thing to try before contacting the service. In 80% of cases, the problem is solved in 5 minutes without losing other data (cleaning routes, schedules, room maps). But it is important to choose the right method: for Mi Robot Vacuum, Viomi or Dreame models, the algorithms may differ.
This article contains 3 proven ways to reset Wi-Fi (including hidden features for old firmware), a compatibility table with popular models and answers to frequent questions, and what to do if the reset did not help, and how to avoid repeated connection problems.
If your Xiaomi vacuum cleaner has forgotten the network after updating the firmware or gives an Error 1003 error (no connection to the server), do not rush to carry it for repair. Most often, it is not hardware malfunctions that are to blame, but a conflict of network settings - especially if you have recently changed your router, Wi-Fi password or provider. Resetting the network will return the vacuum cleaner to the Internet, but all other settings will be saved: room maps, cleaning schedules and even cleaning history.
We tested all methods on Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Viomi V3 and Dreame D9 models – instructions are relevant for firmware from 2020-2026. If you have an older version (before 2019), check out the section on alternative methods – it describes the nuances for outdated devices.
1. Wi-Fi reset via Mi Home/Xiaomi Home app
The safest and fastest way is to use the official app, which is suitable if the vacuum cleaner is at least occasionally connected to the network (albeit with errors) or if you have saved access to a Xiaomi account associated with the device.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home for newer versions).
- Select your robot vacuum cleaner from the list of devices.
- Go to Settings → Wi-Fi settings (or Network → Network Reset in new versions).
- Click on “Forget Network” or “Reset Wi-Fi settings”.
- Confirm the action - the vacuum cleaner will emit an audible signal and begin to flash the indicator.
After that, the robot will automatically restart and be ready to reconnect through the standard procedure (press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the case until you hear a voice message).
Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the vacuum cleaner.|

⚠️ Warning: If the vacuum cleaner doesn't appear on the list of devices to connect to after resetting, try restarting the router. Sometimes routers block new connections due to a device limit.
2. hardware Wi-Fi reset (buttons on the case)
If the vacuum cleaner doesn't respond to the application or connect to the network, use physical buttons on the case, which works even when the firmware fails, but requires precise consistency.
Instructions for most Xiaomi models:
- Press it for 5-7 seconds until you hear a voice message “Wi-Fi reset” (or the indicator flashes).
Viomi and Dreame models may require Wi-Fi buttons and Power (hold 10 seconds).
💡
If the Wi-Fi button doesn't respond, check it for contaminants. Sometimes dust or moisture will block the contacts. Wipe the button with an alcohol wipe and try again.
| Model robot vacuum cleaner | The combination of buttons for resetting Wi-Fi | Sound signal |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Robot Vacuum 1/1S/2 | Hold Wi-Fi for 5 seconds | One short signal. |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | Hold Wi-Fi + Power for 7 seconds | Two pause signals |
| Viomi V2/V3 | Hold Wi-Fi for 10 seconds | Voice message in Chinese |
| Dreame D9/D10 | Keeping food at home + 8 seconds | Three short signals |
⚠️ Note: Some Viomi models reset and cleanup settings (scheduling, zones) after hardware reset. To avoid this, export room maps to the cloud through the application before the procedure (if you have access to the network).
3. Complete reset to factory settings (extreme case)
If the previous methods didn't work, it's a hard reset, and it will delete all the data, including the maps of the premises, the schedules, and the suction settings, and only use it if:
- 🔄 The vacuum cleaner does not connect to Wi-Fi either through the app or through buttons.
- 🔧 After the firmware update, critical errors (e.g., Error 502) have occurred).
- 📡 Robot “cannot see” any network, although the router works properly.
How to make a complete reset:
- Turn on the vacuum cleaner.
- Find a hidden reset button on the case (usually under the lid or next to the charging connector) that can be signed as RESET.
- Use a paper clip or toothpick to press and hold the 15-20 second button.
- Release after the beep (or when the indicator starts to flash quickly).
After the reboot, the vacuum cleaner will be like a new one – you will need to re-assign to the Xiaomi account and adjust all the parameters.
What to do if the RESET button is missing?
⚠️ Note: On models with a LiDAR scanner (e.g. Dreame) Z10 Pro) after a complete reset, you may need to recalibrate the sensors. To do this, place the vacuum cleaner on a flat surface and hold the Power button for 3 seconds - the robot will perform self-diagnosis.

4. Alternative ways for older models (until 2019)
If your vacuum cleaner is released before 2019 (e.g., Mi Robot Vacuum 1 first revision), standard methods may not work due to outdated firmware.
- 📱 Mi Home Reset (old version): Install Mi Home 5.4.54 (download from APKPure) and retains support for legacy connectivity protocols.
- 🔌 Connecting via an access point: Create a name-named access point on your phone Xiaomi_Vacuum_XXXX (where XXXX — last 4 figure MAC-Connect to it from another device and try to reset the network via Mi Home.
Firmware via USB
1. Download the firmware for your model from the 4PDA forum.
2. Connect the vacuum cleaner to the PC via USB- cable.
3. Use the MiRobotTool utility for forced flashing. For the Viomi SE and Mi Robot Vacuum 1 models, sometimes it helps to roll back the firmware to an older version. However, this is risky - if you interrupt the process, the vacuum cleaner may stop turning on. If you are not sure about your abilities, contact the service center.
💡
Before using alternative methods, check the vacuum cleaner firmware version in Mi Home (About the Device section). If it is older than 2019, there is a high probability that a standard Wi-Fi reset will not work.
5. What to do if the dumping did not help?
If after all the manipulations the vacuum cleaner still does not connect to Wi-Fi, the problem may be one of the following factors:
| Symptoms. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Vacuum cleaner 'can't see' network, but other devices connect | Incompatible Wi-Fi standard (e.g., only 5GHz) | Switch the router to 2.4 GHz mode or turn on mixed b/g/n mode |
| Error 1003 error when connecting | Blocking Xiaomi servers (geo-restrictions) | Change your Mi Home account region to China or Singapore |
| The vacuum cleaner plugs in, but shuts down immediately. | Weak Wi-Fi signal or interference | Move the router closer or use a network repeater |
| After resetting, the vacuum cleaner asks for an update to the firmware, but the update hangs | Damaged update cache | Complete the reset and repeat the update via Mi Home |
If neither option worked, try connecting the vacuum cleaner to another network (like a mobile hotspot from your phone). If that didn’t work, it’s probably the Wi-Fi hardware module that’s the problem. In this case, contact Xiaomi’s service center (the warranty repair takes 5-7 days).
💡
Before visiting the service, back up your room maps! Go to Settings → Backup and save data to the cloud at Mi Home, which will save you time to retrain the vacuum cleaner after repair.
6. How to Avoid Wi-Fi Problems in the Future
To avoid the need to reset the network, follow these recommendations:
- 🔄 Update your firmware regularly through Mi Home (but not through third-party utilities!).
- 📶 Use a 2.4GHz router – many Xiaomi vacuum cleaners don’t work on a 5GHz network.
- 🔒 Don’t change your Wi-Fi password too often – it can cause a conflict of saved networks.
- 🌐 Turn off the “Quick Switch between Ranges” function in the router (it can knock the connection down).
