Ever wondered how much internet traffic your apps consume over Wi-Fi? There are several ways to track this on Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi, POCO, and Black Shark), from standard tools in MIUI to third-party apps with advanced analytics, which is especially useful if you have a limited rate or suspect that some app is eating traffic in the background.
Unlike mobile internet, where operators send SMS-While monitoring Wi-Fi traffic often stays in the shadows, monitoring it helps to detect hidden app updates, autoplay videos on social media, or even malicious activity. In this article, we will analyze all available methods โ from simple to advanced โ and also tell you how to reset statistics and configure notifications about exceeding the limit.
1. Standard traffic statistics in MIUI
The most obvious way is to use the built-in MIUI tools, which are available on all Xiaomi smartphones, starting with the MIUI 10 firmware version and later. Importantly, the statistics are reset automatically every month, but you can do it manually.
To open the section:
- Go to Settings. โ SIM-maps and mobile networks.
- Slip on Traffic Usage (or Data Traffic on some models).
- Select the Wi-Fi tab at the top of the screen.
Here you'll see:
- ๐ Total traffic consumption for the current period (in megabytes or gigabytes).
- ๐ฑ List of applications sorted by the amount of traffic consumed.
- ๐ Reset button (in upper right corner).
โ ๏ธ Note: In some versions MIUI (for example POCO F5 or Redmi Note 12) a Wi-Fi section can be hidden behind the Mobile Traffic tab. scroll left to find it.
If you want more detailed statistics (for example, by day or week), standard MIUI tools will not be enough.
2. applications for monitoring Wi-Fi traffic
Standard statistics in MIUI only show general numbers, but they don't give you analytics by time, speed or data type. This will require third-party utilities. We tested 5 popular apps and selected the best ones:
| Annex | Features | Cons | Link (Google Play) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Internet Speed Meter | Shows real-time speed, keeps the story by day, supports widgets. | Advertising in the free version, there is no detail on the applications. | Download |
| GlassWire | Visualize traffic in the form of a schedule, block suspicious connections, notifications about new devices on the network. | A premium version for advanced functions. | Download |
| NetGuard | Block traffic for individual applications, there is no need for root rights. | A complex interface for beginners. | Download |
To install any of these applications:
Download APK or install from Google Play|
Open the application and grant permission to access the network |
Set up limit-excess notifications (if required)|
Add a widget to the main screen for quick access-->
For example, in GlassWire you can see which app was connected to the Internet in the background at night, and NetGuard will allow you to completely block access to the network for unnecessary services (for example, for com.miui.analytics, which sends data to Xiaomi).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some applications (e.g. NetGuard) require activation VPN-It doesnโt mean your data is leaking, it just works on Androidโs network packet interception mechanism.
3. View traffic through the router
If you need to track traffic not only on your smartphone, but on all devices on the network (for example, to understand who is eating the Internet at night), the easiest way to go to the control panel of your Wi-Fi router. Most modern routers (including models from Xiaomi, TP-Link or ASUS) keep statistics on connected devices.
Instructions for routers Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi:
- Open your browser and type in the address bar 192.168.31.1 (or miwifi.com).
- Log in (username and password is usually a combination with a sticker on the router).
- Go to Devices or Traffic (depending on the firmware version).
- Select your smartphone from the list and see the consumption schedule.
Advantages of this method:
- ๐ Accurate data on all devices on the network, not just on a smartphone.
- ๐ A story of days or even months (depending on the router model).
- ๐ The ability to lock a device if it is suspiciously consuming traffic.
Disadvantages:
- โ Statistics are reset when the router is restarted.
- โ Not all routers support app-specific detailing (only general traffic).
๐ก
If you have a router from a provider (for example, from Rostelecom or Beeline), the statistics may be hidden, in which case use the provider's application or contact support.
4. Hidden MIUI features: engineering menu and ADB
For advanced users who want to get the most detailed information, there are two little-known ways: the engineering menu and ADB commands. These methods require caution, but give access to data that does not show standard settings.
Method 1: Engineering menu (for Qualcomm models)
On Xiaomi smartphones with Qualcomm processors (for example, Redmi Note 10 Pro or POCO X3 Pro), you can open a hidden menu:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the code: ##4636###.
- Go to the tab of usage statistics.
- Select Wi-Fi and see the detailed data.
Method 2: ADB-teams (requires PC)
If the engineering menu is not available, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB):
adb shell dumpsys netstats detailThis command will provide a complete report of network activity, including:
- ๐ก Total traffic over Wi-Fi and mobile network.
- ๐ฆ Breakdown by UID You can find out how much traffic com.android.chrome or com.facebook.katana spent).
- โฑ Activity time stamps.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Use ADB requires the inclusion of debugging USB in the developer settings (Settings) โ The phone. โ Version. MIUI โ Use 7 taps. Wrong commands can disrupt the system!

5. How to Reset Traffic Statistics
If you want to start tracking traffic from a clean slate (for example, after a tariff change or a move), the statistics can be manually reset. MIUI It's done this way:
- Open the Settings. โ SIM-maps and mobile networks โ Using traffic.
- Go to the Wi-Fi tab.
- Slap the icon. โฎ (three points) in upper right corner.
- Choose Reset Statistics.
You can also reset via the engineering menu (code ##4636##) or ADB-team:
adb shell cmd netstats resetAfter the reset, we recommend:
- ๐ Set a reminder in the calendar at the end of the billing period (for example, on the 1st day of each month).
- ๐ Set up notifications in the monitor app (e.g. GlassWire).
- ๐ Take a screenshot of current indicators for comparison in the future.
๐ก
Resetting statistics doesn't affect real traffic consumption -- it just zeroes the meter in your phone, so if you have a limited rate, check the ISP.
Frequent problems and their solutions
When tracking Wi-Fi traffic on Xiaomi, users face typical problems.
Issue 1: Statistics are not updated
If the numbers in the Traffic Use section are frozen in place:
- ๐ Reboot the phone.
- ๐ถ Reconnect to Wi-Fi (turn off and turn on again).
- ๐ Update the firmware MIUI last-minute.
Problem 2: Applications are not displayed in statistics
Some system processes (e.g. com.android.systemui) may not appear in the list.
- Use the ADB (Dumpsys Netstats Detail) command.
- Install NetGuard with root access (if the phone is rooted).
Problem 3: Traffic consumption is too high
If your smartphone eats gigabytes for no apparent reason:
- ๐ Check background activity in Settings โ Annexes โ Permits โ Auto-start.
- ๐ซ Turn off automatic app updates on Google Play.
- ๐ก Check your phone for viruses (for example, through Malwarebytes).
If the problem persists, try resetting your network settings:
- Settings โ SIM-maps and mobile networks โ Resetting network settings.
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
