Have you noticed that mobile internet on Xiaomi is running out too fast? Or want to understand which app is eating traffic in the background? In this article, you will find all the relevant ways to check Internet consumption on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones, from standard MIUI tools to hidden features and third-party applications.
We're going to take a look at not only basic settings, but also little-known tricks: how to look at statistics on specific applications, reset traffic meters, set up warnings about exceeding the limit and even track spending over Wi-Fi. And at the end, a unique life hack for users of two different apps. SIM-Maps that are not in the official documentation of Xiaomi.
1. Standard statistics of Internet consumption in MIUI
The easiest way is to use the built-in MIUI statistics, which are available on all Xiaomi smartphones since MIUI 10, and updated to MIUI 12/14/15 with new features.
- Open the settings (cog icon).
- Go to Connections and Sharing (or Network and Internet in older versions).
- Select Data Use (or Data Traffic).
- Click on Mobile Traffic for detail.
Here you'll see:
- ๐ Total expenditure for the current month (or other selected period).
- ๐ฑ Expenditure SIM-cards (if there are several of them).
- ๐ Daily consumption schedule.
- ๐ List of apps sorted by traffic (from more to less).
โ ๏ธ Attention: B MIUI 14/15 The statistics are reset automatically at the beginning of each month. If you want to save the data, take a screenshot or export it manually through Settings. โ System system โ Backup.
To manually reset the meters (like after a tariff change), click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Reset Statistics, which is useful if you want to start tracking the flow from scratch.
2. How to view Internet consumption on specific applications
If you want to figure out which app is eating up traffic, the built-in MIUI statistics provide details for each service.
- Go to Settings โ Connections and Sharing โ Data Use โ Mobile Traffic.
- Scroll down to the Utilization of Traffic by Apps block.
- Click on any app to see: ๐ Expenditure for today. ๐ Monthly expenditure. ๐ Background consumption (if included).
Pay special attention to apps marked Background mode โ they consume traffic even when you are not using them. For example, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok can pull data to update feeds or notifications.
Disable auto-update apps in Google Play|
Ban background activity for social networks |
Use data saving mode in Chrome|
Disable automatic download of media in messengers-->
To prevent the application from using mobile Internet in the background:
- Click on the app in the list.
- Activate the switch to Prohibit background data use.
- To block completely, turn on Prohibit the use of mobile data (the application will only work on Wi-Fi).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some system applications (such as Google Play Services) cannot be completely blocked, causing smartphone malfunctions.
3. Hidden settings: advanced traffic statistics
Few people know, but MIUI has a hidden section with detailed statistics on traffic types (download/return, mobile data/Wi-Fi) to open it:
- Go to Settings. โ The phone.
- Click 5 times in a row on the MIUI version to activate the developer mode.
- Return to the main Settings menu and open a new section for developers.
- Scroll down and find the Network Monitor (or Network Use).
Here you'll see:
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| TX (Sent) | The amount of data transferred from the phone to the network (file downloads, messages sent, etc.). |
| RX (Received) | The amount of data received by the phone (viewing videos, downloading files). |
| TCP | Traffic over TCP (used by most applications) |
| UDP | UDP traffic (often used for streaming and online gaming) |
| ICMP | Service traffic (such as ping requests). |
This data is useful if you suspect that the phone is sending or receiving a suspiciously large amount of data, such as a high TX at a low RX, which may indicate that spyware is working.
What if traffic is consumed without your activity?
4. How to track Internet consumption over Wi-Fi
The built-in MIUI statistics show not only mobile traffic but also Wi-Fi spending, which is useful if youโre connected to a limited home internet fare or want to understand which devices are loading your network.
To check out the Wi-Fi statistics:
- Open Settings โ Connections and Sharing โ Data Use.
- Go to the Wi-Fi tab (near Mobile Traffic).
- Here you will see the total spending period and a list of applications consuming traffic over Wi-Fi.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Some traffic monitoring apps require root rights to work properly; without them, they can show inaccurate data. On Xiaomi, with an unlocked bootloader, you can get root through Magisk, but this voids the warranty.
6. Unique life hack: traffic consumption by two SIM-map
If your Xiaomi supports two of your SIM-So you can flexibly distribute traffic between these cards -- for example, use one card for calling and the other card for the Internet:
- Open the Settings. โ SIM-maps and mobile networks.
- Choose. SIM-The card you want to use for the internet.

- ๐ฑ Two. SIM-cards with different rates (for example, one with unlimited Internet, the other is cheap for calls).
- ๐ Traveling abroad and want to use the local SIM-map.
- ๐ Testing a new tariff and want to compare traffic costs.
๐ก
Xiaomi with MIUI 14/15 can assign separate apps to work through a specific SIM card, such as WhatsApp will use SIM-1, and Telegram will use SIM-2.
