Why to connect iPhone to Xiaomi TV and what you need
Modern Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV 4/5, Redmi Smart TV, Mi QLED) support wireless and wired connection to smartphones, but with iPhones often there are difficulties due to the closed Apple ecosystem. Unlike Android devices, where it is enough to turn on Miracast or Google Cast, iPhone owners have to use workarounds - from standard AirPlay to Lightning-HDMI adapters.
In this article, weโll look at all the current ways to connect (including those that work on models without AirPlay built-in), as well as common bugs โ for example, why the TV canโt see the iPhone through Screen Mirroring or how to get around the broadcast restriction. Netflix/YouTube protected DRM. Separately, we will focus on the router settings that affect the stability of the connection.
For a successful connection, check:
- ๐ฑ iOS version: no lower than 12.0 (for AirPlay 2 โ 13.0)+).
- ๐บ Xiaomi TV model: Mi series TV 5 Pro, Mi Q1/Q2 And newer support AirPlay out of the box".
- ๐ Shared Wi-Fi network: iPhone and TV must be connected to the same router (except for adapters) HDMI).
Method 1: Connect via AirPlay (for Xiaomi TVs with support)
The easiest method is to use the built-in AirPlay, but it only works on Xiaomi 2020 and newer models (list below). If your TV is not on this list, skip the section and read about the alternatives.
How to check for AirPlay support:
- On the Xiaomi remote, click Settings โ Devices โ Connection and Sharing.
- Look for Apple AirPlay or Screen Mirroring.
If there is a function, follow the instructions:
Turn on AirPlay on your TV (Settings โ Devices โ Apple AirPlay โ On)
Open the control panel on the iPhone (swipe down from the upper right corner)
Click on Screen Mirroring (Duplicate Screen)
Choose your Xiaomi TV from the list
Enter the confirmation code from the TV screen (if required)-->
Limitations of AirPlay on Xiaomi:
- ๐ซ Not working with Netflix, Disney.+ and other services with DRM-Protection (there will be a black screen).
- ๐ The sound is transmitted only through the TV (on the iPhone is turned off).
- โก Image delay ~1-2 Seconds (critical for games).

Method 2: Wireless Duplication via Miracast (for older models)
If your Xiaomi TV doesnโt support AirPlay, but you have Miracast (available on all Android TV models), you can use bridge apps.
- ๐น ApowerMirror (paid version without lags).
- ๐น LetsView (free but with watermarks).
- ๐น Screen Mirroring (by AirBeamTV) (optimized for iOS).
The following steps are taken for ApowerMirror:
- Install the app on your iPhone and TV (via Google Play on Xiaomi TV).
Challenges and solutions:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The TV is not on the list. | Different Wi-Fi subnets | Connect both devices to the same network (not the guest!) |
| Lags and stuttering videos | Weak router signal | Switch to the 5GHz band or use it LAN-cable |
| No sound. | Limitation of the annex | Enable Audio Mirroring in the ApowerMirror settings |
๐ก
If Miracast is permanently shutting down, try turning off the power saving on your TV: Settings โ Power โ Sleep Mode โ Never.
Method 3: Wired connection via Lightning-HDMI adapter
The only method that is guaranteed to work on all iPhone and Xiaomi TV models is wired connection via Lightning โ HDMI adapter.
- ๐ฎ Call of Duty Mobile, Genshin Impact).
- ๐ฌ Watching movies in maximum quality (4K HDR TV-supported).
- ๐ฑ Duplicate screen without restrictions DRM.
What you need:
- โก The original Apple Lightning Digital adapter AV Adapter (around 5000)โฝ) Certified analogue (e.g. Belkin).
- ๐บ Cable HDMI 2.0 (for 4K@60Hz? HDMI 1.4 (for 1080p).
How to connect:
- Connect the adapter to the iPhone.
- Put it in. HDMI-cable to adapter and TV (port) HDMI 1/ARC preferably).

Analogue (Belkin, Baseus, etc.)
USB-C-HDMI (for iPhone 15)
I haven't tried it yet.-->
Important nuances:
- Adapters on the chip MFi (Made for iPhone) support 4K output, cheap Chinese counterparts โ only 1080p with artifacts.
- The iPhone 15 requires a USB-C โ HDMI adapter (the Lightning port is missing).
- Charging your iPhone via an adapter is not possible โ use a Y-branched cable on HDMI + Lightning.
Method 4: Connect via DLNA/UPnP (for media files)
If you only need to stream photos, videos or music (without screen duplication), DLNA will do. On Xiaomi TV, it works through the built-in Media Player or Mi Home app.
Instructions:
- Install the VLC or Infuse app on your iPhone.
- Open the file you want to broadcast and tap the Cast icon (in VLC, the button in the upper right corner).
- Choose your Xiaomi TV from the list DLNA-device.
Limitations:
- ๐ซ Streaming services are not supported (YouTube, Netflix).
- ๐ Only individual files (cannot broadcast screen or applications).
- ๐ Possible problems with formats MKV or FLAC โ The TV may not be able to reproduce them.
๐ก
DLNA is the most versatile way to view local files, but it is not suitable for screen duplication or games.
Method 5: Using an Apple TV or console (for stable broadcasting)
If you need a permanent connection (for example, for HomeKit or streaming Apple TV+), the best option is the Apple TV 4K.
- ๐ฅ AirPlay 2 without delay.
- ๐ฎ Games through Apple Arcade.
- ๐ Full integration with iCloud and HomeKit.
How to connect:
- Connect your Apple TV to your Xiaomi TV via HDMI.
- On iPhone, open Control Panel โ Screen Duplication and select Apple TV.
- To stream, use AirPlay from apps (YouTube, Photos, etc.).
Alternatives to Apple TV:
- ๐ฆ NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (supports AirPlay through update).
- ๐ฆ Xiaomi Mi Box S (requires AirScreen installation for AirPlay).
