Connecting a Samsung tablet to a Xiaomi TV opens up new possibilities, from watching movies on the big screen to presentations or games in comfort. However, users often face compatibility problems, especially when it comes to different ecosystems (Android from Samsung and MIUI TV from Xiaomi).
While both devices run on Android, their firmware can conflict. For example, Xiaomi TV sometimes doesnโt support Samsung DeXโs Miracast, and USB-C โ HDMI cables require adapters with a DisplayPort Alt Mode chip. We tested each method on Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and Xiaomi TV Q2 55 models, the results below.
If you need to duplicate the screen for work or entertainment, choose the method depending on:
- ๐ Cable availability โ wired connection is more stable, but requires adapters.
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi speeds โ wireless methods require a 5GHz router or Wi-Fi Direct support.
- ๐ฎ Tasks - games are better to run on cable, and for films is suitable DLNA.
1. Wired connection via HDMI (the most stable way)
For modern Samsung tablets (for example, Galaxy Tab S6/S7/S8) you will need a USB-C โ HDMI adapter with DisplayPort Alt Mode support. Cheap Chinese adapters without a chip will not work โ the TV screen will remain black. Original adapters from Samsung (EE-HG950 article) or Anker/Baseus certified ensure video transfer to 4K@60Hz.
Step-by-step:
- Connect the adapter to the tablet and the HDMI cable to the HDMI-IN port on the Xiaomi TV.
- On the Xiaomi remote, click Source (or Input) and select the appropriate one. HDMI-port.
- The tablet will have a notification about the connection to the external display: ๐ Duplicate screen โ the same image on the tablet and TV. ๐ฅ๏ธ Expand the screen โ the TV will become a second monitor (useful for multitasking).
If the image does not appear:
- ๐ Check that the adapter supports DisplayPort Alt Mode (the package should be marked with a note "4K@60Hz").
- ๐ Make sure the tablet is at least 30% charged โ with a low charge, Samsung blocks video output from the tablet. HDMI.
- ๐ง Update the TV firmware: Go to Settings โ On TV. โ Update of the PO.
Check the adapter compatibility (DisplayPort Alt Mode)
Use an HDMI 2.0 or higher cable
Select the right source on TV (Input button)
Activate the external display mode on the tablet-->
โ ๏ธ Note: On Samsung tablets with One UI 5.0+ When connecting to Xiaomi TV There may be an error "Not supported" HDCP". Solution: Turn it off HDCP in the settings of the TV (path: Settings) โ Display and sound โ HDMI-regime โ Off.).
2. Wireless connection via Miracast (without router)
Miracast is a wireless screen standard that both Samsung and Xiaomi support, but there are some nuances:
- ๐ฑ Samsung tablets use Smart View technology (based on Miracast).
- ๐บ Xiaomi TVs (starting with the MIUI TV 3.0) supports Miracast but sometimes requires manual activation.
How to connect:
- On Xiaomi TV: Settings โ Connection and Sharing โ Miracast โ Enable
- On Samsung Tablet: Notification Panel โ Smart View โ Find Xiaomi TV
- Confirm the connection on both devices.
Challenges and solutions:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| TV doesn't find a tablet | Wi-Fi Direct is disabled on TV | Enable in Settings โ Wi-Fi โ Wi-Fi Direct |
| Image delay (lag) | Weak signal 2.4 GHz | Switch to 5 GHz or reduce the distance to 3 m |
| No sound. | On the tablet selected another audio output | In Smart View, click โ๏ธ โ "Pass the sound" |
๐ก
If Miracast is permanently shutting down, try turning off power saving on your tablet: Settings โ Device Care โ Battery โ Power Saving Mode โ Off.
3. Connect via Wi-Fi Direct (alternative to Miracast)
Wi-Fi Direct is another wireless protocol that can work if Miracast isn't supported, and it creates direct communication between devices without a router, but the data rate is lower.
Instructions:
- On Xiaomi TV: Settings โ Wi-Fi โ Wi-Fi Direct โ Enable
- On Samsung: Settings โ Connections โ Wi-Fi โ Wi-Fi Direct โ Find TV
- Confirm the connection with a password (if required).
- Start transferring the screen through Smart View.
Limitations of the method:
- ๐๏ธ Maximum authorization โ 1080p (Even if the TV supports 4K).
- ๐ฎ Delayed input (lag) up to 100-150 ms โ not suitable for gaming.
- ๐ Fast battery discharge of the tablet (up to 1% per minute with active transmission).
Why is Wi-Fi Direct slower than Miracast?
4.Use of DLNA for transfer of media files
If you don't need to duplicate the screen, but you just need to stream movies or music, DLNA is a good protocol, and it allows you to stream content from tablet to TV over a local network.
How to set up:
- Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On Xiaomi TV, turn on DLNA: Settings โ Connection and Sharing โ DLNA โ Turn on
- On a Samsung tablet: Open a Gallery or Music. Select a file โ Share โ Devices nearby โ Find a TV.
Advantages of DLNA:
- ๐ It supports almost all formats (MP4, MKV, FLAC).
- ๐ถ It works even on older Xiaomi models. TV (Like Mi. TV 4A).
- ๐ Minimum battery consumption (unlike Miracast).
Important: DLNA doesn't transfer the tablet screen, just individual files. Use other methods to duplicate the screen.
5. USB-C connection (MHL โ for older models)
If you have a Samsung tablet older than 2018 (like the Galaxy Tab S4 or Tab A), it can support MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link), which allows you to transfer video over USB-C or Micro-USB, but requires a special adapter.
What you need:
- ๐ adapter MHL โ HDMI (for example, Samsung EE-MG950).
- ๐ Power supply for adapter (some models require plug-in).
How to connect:
- Connect the adapter to the tablet and TV.
- Connect the power to the adapter (if necessary).
- On the TV, select the appropriate HDMI-entrance.
โ ๏ธ Attention: MHL Does not support permission above 1080p It can overheat with prolonged use on new Samsung tablets (with One). UI 4.0+) This method does not work, only DisplayPort Alt Mode.
6. Solving typical connection problems
Even after setting it up correctly, you can get errors.
Problem 1: TV can't see tablet on Wi-Fi
- ๐ Reboot both devices.
- ๐ถ Make sure they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (not the guest network!).
- ๐ ๏ธ On Xiaomi TV, reset your network settings: Settings โ The Internet and the Internet โ Resetting network settings
Problem 2: Lag or stuttering video
- ๐ถ Switch to 5 GHz in router settings.
- ๐ฑ Close the background apps on the tablet (especially instant messengers and games).
- ๐ง In Smart View, select โOptimize for Videoโ (if available).
Problem 3: No sound when connected via HDMI
- ๐ On the tablet, check that the sound is not turned off in Smart View.
- ๐ง On Xiaomi TV, select the right sound source: Settings โ Sound. โ Sound source โ HDMI
- ๐ Reconnect the cable. HDMI (Sometimes changing the port helps).
๐ก
If neither method works, check firmware compatibility: update the software on the tablet (Settings โ Software Update) and TV (Settings โ About TV โ Update).
