Wirelessly streaming a screen from an iPhone to a Xiaomi TV is a convenient way to show photos, videos or play a game on a large screen without unnecessary wires. However, many users face problems: the TV does not see the iPhone, the image is lying, the sound is lost. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of connecting via Wi-Fi, including AirPlay, Miracast and DLNA, and also give a checklist for troubleshooting.
It is important to understand that the connection method depends on the model of Xiaomi TV (Mi TV A2, P1, Q2, etc.) and the version of tvOS on your iPhone. For example, older models (until 2019) may not support AirPlay directly, and new ones may require a firmware update. We tested all methods on the iPhone 13 Pro and Xiaomi Mi TV Q2 55, so the instructions are relevant for 2026.
1. Preparing the Xiaomi TV and iPhone for the connection
Before setting up your wireless broadcast, make sure that both devices meet the minimum requirements:
- π± iPhone: iOS version 12.3 or later (for AirPlay 2) on models up to iPhone 6s limitations.
- πΊ Xiaomi TV: firmware MIUI TV no older than 2021. Check the settings β On TV. β POS version.
- π Wi-Fi: Both devices must be connected to the same network at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz (but not to different devices!).
- π iPhone charge: at least 30%. The broadcast screen severely drains the battery.
If your Xiaomi TV is released before 2020 (e.g. Mi TV 4S), you may need to update your firmware through Settings β System Update. For models without AirPlay (e.g. Mi TV 4A), you will need to use alternative methods like DLNA or external adapters.
β οΈ Note: If your TV is connected to Wi-Fi via a guest network or has Customer Isolation enabled on the router, your iPhone won't be able to detect it.

2. Method 1: Connect via AirPlay (the easiest method)
AirPlay is Appleβs proprietary technology that allows you to stream the iPhone screen to compatible devices, including Xiaomi TVs of new series (Q1E, Q2, P1, etc.).
Instructions:
- On Xiaomi TV, open Settings β Connection & Sharing β AirPlay and enable the feature.
- On iPhone, swipe down from the top right corner (for Face ID models) or up from the bottom edge (for Touch ID models) to open Control Point.
- Click on the Screen Duplication (or Screen Mirroring) block, then select your Xiaomi TV from the list.
- On the TV screen will appear the confirmation code β enter it on the iPhone.
If the TV is not displayed in the list of devices:
- π Reboot both devices.
- πΆ Check that Wi-Fi is running at 5GHz (for AirPlay 2, preferable).
- π Turn off the firewall or antivirus on the router, which can block multicast traffic.
π‘
If the image is lagging when streaming via AirPlay, try reducing the screen resolution on your iPhone in Settings β Screen and Brightness β Screen Resolution. This will reduce the load on the network.
3. Method 2: Using Miracast (for older Xiaomi models)
Miracast is a universal wireless broadcast standard that even older Xiaomi TVs (like Mi TV 3 or 4A) support. Unlike AirPlay, it is not tied to the Apple ecosystem, but can cause audio delays of up to 1-2 seconds.
How to connect:
- On Xiaomi TV, go to Settings β Network Settings β Miracast (or Wireless Display) and turn on the feature.
- On your iPhone, install an app for Miracast, such as Screen Mirroring + TV Cast (free but with ads) and ApowerMirror (paid version without restrictions).
Xiaomi
Miracast's limitations:
- β No support. DRM-Protected Content (Netflix, Disney)+ and others may not be broadcast).
- β Sound delay up to 2 seconds (critical for gaming).
- β Some Xiaomi models require manual Miracast driver updates through Settings β Updating the system β Local Update.
Why Miracast might not work on iPhones
Method 3: Broadcasting over DLNA (for video and photo)
DLNA is a protocol for transmitting media files (photos, videos, music) over a local network. It does not duplicate the iPhone screen, but allows you to view content on a Xiaomi TV without lags. It is suitable for models without AirPlay and Miracast.
Step-by-step:
- On Xiaomi TV, turn on DLNA in Settings β Network Settings β DLNA.
- Install one of the apps on your iPhone: VLC for Mobile (free, supports all formats). Infuse (paid, with advanced codecs).
Xiaomi
Advantages of DLNA:
- β No sound delays (unlike Miracast).
- β It works even on the oldest Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi). TV 2).
- β Supports formats 4K HDR Dolby Vision (if the TV is compatible).
| Method | Delay. | Sound. | Support for DRM | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AirPlay | 0.1-0.5 s | Yes. | Yes. | β |
| Miracast | 1-2 | Yes. | No. | ββ |
| DLNA | No delay. | Yes. | Depends on the app. | ββ |
| YouTube Cast | 0.5-1 s. | Yes. | Yes. | β |

5. Method 4: Broadcasting via YouTube or other applications
Many apps (e.g. YouTube, Twitch, Disney+) have built-in TV streaming, which is the most reliable way, as it doesn't depend on protocols like AirPlay or Miracast.
How it works:
- Make sure that you have an app installed on your Xiaomi TV (like YouTube) and you are logged in to the same account as your iPhone.
- On your iPhone, open the YouTube video, click on the stream icon (in the upper right corner) and select your TV.
- For Netflix or Disney+, use the βCastβ feature in the play menu.
Limitations:
- π¬ Works only for content within the application (you can not broadcast the screen or local files).
- π Some services (such as Apple) TV+) Blocking the broadcast to uncertified devices.
π‘
Broadcasting via apps (YouTube, Netflix) is the most stable method, as it uses optimized protocols from service developers, rather than universal standards like Miracast.
6. Solving common problems
If the connection is not working, use this diagnostic table:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| TV doesn't see iPhone | Different Wi-Fi networks or guest networks | Connect both devices to the same network, disable customer isolation in the router |
| Image lays | Weak Wi-Fi signal or network congestion | Switch to 5 GHz, disconnect other devices from the network |
| No sound. | In the settings of the TV selected the wrong sound source | Check Settings β Sound β Sound Source (must be HDMI ARC or TV) |
| Connection is cut off | Energy saving mode on iPhone or TV | Turn off low power mode on both devices |
If nothing helps, try resetting the network settings on your Xiaomi TV:
- Go to Settings β System β Reset and Reset β Reset Network settings.
- Connect to Wi-Fi again and try again.
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi) TV Stick) AirPlay may be disabled after the firmware update. Check for updates in Settings β Update the system or install firmware manually from the official Xiaomi website.
7. Alternative methods (if Wi-Fi does not work)
If wireless connectivity is not possible, consider these options:
- π HDMI-Adapter (for example, Apple Lightning Digital) AV Adapter.com Suitable for stable broadcast without lags, but requires wires.
- πΆ Wi-Fi Direct (if TV supports) creates a direct network between devices, bypassing the router.
- π₯οΈ Apple TV. If you have an Apple console TV, Connect it to the Xiaomi TV via HDMI Use AirPlay without any problems.
Important: On Xiaomiβs Mi TV A2 series (2023), Wi-Fi Direct is disabled by default. To activate it, go to the engineering menu via the remote: press sequentially Menu β Settings β All Settings β General β Network β Wi-Fi Direct and turn on the option.
