Transferring images from a smartphone to a large TV screen is a challenge that users face when watching videos, games or presentations. Xiaomi devices (including the Mi, Redmi and Poco lines) support several ways to wirelessly and wiredly connect to TV, but not all of them are equally convenient. In this article, we will discuss 5 working methods taking into account the features of MIUI firmware and the hardware limitations of TVs.
The main problem that users face is protocol incompatibility or lack of Miracast support on older TV models. We tested all methods on Xiaomi Mi TV (4K/8K), Samsung QLED, LG OLED and budget models with Android TV to give clear recommendations. If your TV does not support modern standards, no problem: there are solutions for such cases in the article.
1. Wireless transmission via Miracast (Screen Mirroring)
The most versatile way for modern TVs is to use Miracast technology, built into MIUI. It allows you to duplicate the screen without wires, but requires support from TV. On Xiaomi Mi TV function works out of the box, and for other brands may need additional software.
To activate Screen Mirroring:
- ๐ฑ On your smartphone: open Settings โ Connection and sharing โ Screen Transfer (or Wireless Display in Older Versions) MIUI).
- ๐บ On TV: Turn on Miracast Reception Mode (usually in the menu) โ Screen Mirroring or Wi-Fi Direct).
- ๐ Select the name of your TV from the list of available devices on your smartphone.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some Samsung TVs (J and K series, 2015โ2017), Miracast only works after installing the Smart View app from the Samsung App Store. LG may be required LG TV Plus.
TV supports Wi-Fi Direct| Smartphone and TV connected to the same network | Bluetooth enabled on smartphone (for some models) | VPN and power saving modes turned off-->
If the connection fails, try:
- ๐ Reboot both devices.
- ๐ถ Connect your smartphone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network (even if Miracast works without the Internet, sometimes it helps).
- ๐ ๏ธ Update the TV firmware (relevant for Android) TV Android 9 and below).
2. Wired connection via HDMI (MHL or USB-C)
For stable transmission without delay (relevant for games or video in 4K), it is better to use a wired connection. Xiaomi smartphones support image output via:
- ๐ USB-C โ HDMI (for models with Snapdragon 8xx Dimensity, starting with the Redmi Note 10 Pro).
- ๐ MHL-Adapter (for older Micro-USB devices, such as Redmi Note) 4X).
The connection will require:
| Type of smartphone | Required adapter | Max, permission. | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 11/12/13, Redmi K40/50 | USB-C โ HDMI (DisplayPort Alt Mode) | 4K@60Hz | Requires original Xiaomi cable or certified |
| Redmi Note 9/10, Poco X3 | USB-C โ HDMI (without DisplayPort) | 1080p@30Hz | Possible artifacts at high load |
| Redmi 4X/5A, Mi A1 | MHL-adapter (Micro-USB) โ HDMI) | 1080p@30Hz | External power is required for the adapter |
โ ๏ธ Attention: With cheap adapters, you may have trouble recording sound, the image will be transmitted and the sound will remain on your smartphone, in which case the adapter with support will help. HDMI ARC or a separate 3.5 mm audio output.

If the TV does not recognize the signal through HDMI, try to manually select the source of the signal on the remote (SOURCE or INPUT button).
3. Transfer via Google Cast (Chromecast)
If your TV supports Google Cast (built into Android TV or through a Chromecast device), you can stream individual apps (YouTube, Netflix, browser) without duplication of the entire screen, which reduces the load on the smartphone and improves the quality of the stream.
Instructions:
- Make sure your smartphone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open a supported app (e.g. YouTube).
- Press the Cast icon (๐ก) top-right.
- Choose your TV from the list.
List of apps that support Google Cast:
- ๐ฌ YouTube, Netflix, Disney+
- ๐ต Spotify, Yandex Music
- ๐ Google Chrome (Broadcasting tabs)
- ๐ท Google Photos (slideshow display)
โ ๏ธ Note: Google Chrome can be delayed by up to 2-3 seconds, but for games or video chats, this method is not suitable โ use Miracast or HDMI.
4. Alternative methods: Wi-Fi Direct and third-party applications
If the standard methods don't work, you can use Wi-Fi Direct or specialized applications, which is suitable for older TVs without Miracast or Google Cast support.
Option 1: Wi-Fi Direct
- ๐ฑ On a smartphone: Settings โ Wi-Fi โ Wi-Fi Direct.
- ๐บ On TV: Turn on Wi-Fi Direct in network settings.
- ๐ Connect to the TV as an access point.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Use a broadcast app (e.g. ApowerMirror).
Option 2: Reflection applications
Popular programmes:
- ๐น ApowerMirror โ supports screen recording and control with TV.
- ๐น TeamViewer QuickSupport - for remote access (suitable for presentations).
- ๐น LetsView โ Free solution with minimal delays.
โ ๏ธ Note: When using third-party applications, the image can be transmitted through the developer's servers, which creates a risk of data leakage. For sensitive tasks (banking, corporate data), use only Miracast or HDMI.

5. Features for Xiaomi Mi TVs
If you have a Xiaomi Mi TV (any model), the process is simplified by deep integration with the MIUI ecosystem.
- ๐ Automatic Detection: When you turn on Screen Mirroring on your smartphone, the TV appears first on the list.
- ๐ฎ Game Mode: When connected via HDMI Automatically activated to reduce input delay (useful for cloud gaming).
- ๐ Synchronization of sound: when using Miracast, audio is transmitted to TV without additional settings.
To activate the extended functions:
- On the TV, go to Settings โ Devices โ Connect to Mi Account.
- Sign in under the same account as on your smartphone.
- Enable the Quick Connection option.
โ ๏ธ Attention: On Mi TV Stick and Mi Box Screen Mirroring function works only with smartphones on the Internet MIUI 12 and newer. Older versions of the firmware will require an update.
6. Problem Solving: Frequent Errors and Corrections
Even with the right settings, users face typical problems.
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The TV is not displayed in the list of devices | Wi-Fi Direct is disabled on TV | Enable Settings โ Network โ Wi-Fi Direct |
| Image is there, no sound. | Wrong. HDMI-port | Use a port marked ARC or HDMI 2.0 |
| Strong lags during broadcasting | Weak Wi-Fi signal | Switch to 5 GHz or use a wired connection |
| Connection is terminated in 1-2 minutes | Power saving mode on a smartphone | Turn off in Settings โ Battery โ Performance Mode |
If none of the methods worked, check:
- ๐ Firmware compatibility: Update MIUI Up to the latest version (relevant to Redmi Note) 8/9 Miracast buggy).
- ๐ก๏ธ Firewall: Turn it off VPN Antiviruses (they can block data transmission).
- ๐ง Reset network settings: on the smartphone perform Settings โ System system โ Reset โ Resetting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.
