Xiaomiβs Wi-Fi Calling (or VoWiFi) feature allows you to make calls over the Internet when the mobile network is weak. However, many users face problems such as sudden call breaks, fast battery drain or instant messaging conflicts. If you want to fully deactivate this feature, itβs important to know all the possible ways, from standard settings to hidden developer settings.
In this article, we will not only discuss basic methods of disabling through the MIUI menu, but also alternative options for cases where the option is βgrayβ or not. Particular attention will be paid to the models of Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Xiaomi 13, where the logic of VoWiFi is different, and you will learn how to check whether the function is deactivated, and what to do if after the call stops working.
What is Wi-Fi Calling and Why It Should Be Disabled
VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) technology allows voice calls over wireless instead of traditional mobile towers, which is useful in areas with poor coverage, but has several disadvantages:
- π Increased battery consumption β Wi-Fi module is more active even when the screen is off.
- πΆ Instability of connection β when switching between Wi-Fi and LTE call-offs.
- π‘οΈ Privacy concerns β some carriers transmit location data over VoWiFi.
- π± Application conflicts β messengers like WhatsApp or Telegram can βglutβ with active Wi-Fi Calling.
On Xiaomi smartphones, the function is activated automatically when you connect to a supported network (for example, MTS, Beeline or MegaFon). Even if you did not manually enable it, the system can start VoWiFi after the update. MIUI shift SIM-map.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Redmi) 10C) Disabling Wi-Fi Calling through the standard menu results in a reset of mobile network settings!
Method 1: Standard shutdown via MIUI settings
The simplest method is to deactivate the function in the communication parameters menu. MIUI 12/13/14:
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to section. SIM-maps and mobile networks.
- Choose yours. SIM-card (if two of them).
- Click on Wi-Fi Calling or Wi-Fi Calls.
- Move the slider to the off position.
If the Wi-Fi Calling option is not on the menu, it means:
- π± Your model does not support VoWiFi (relevant for budget Redmi) 9A/9C).
- πΆ Your mobile operator does not provide this service (check on the operator's website).
- π The function is hidden in developer mode (see Method 3).

Method 2: Disconnect via USSD code or engineering menu
If the standard method didnβt work, try using service codes that work on most Xiaomi models, but donβt guarantee 100% results.
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the code ##4636##
- In the menu that appears, select Phone Information.
- Scroll down to the Wi-Fi Calling block.
- Click Disable (or Disable in English firmware).
For operators MTS and Beeline can also try USSD-team:
- π For MTS: *111*55# β Select "Disable Wi-Fi Calling".
- π For Beeline: *110*180# β item βService management".
β οΈ Warning: Engineering menu codes (##...) can reset your network settings. After using them, restart your phone and check your Internet connection!

Method 3: Deactivation through Developer Mode
On some MIUI firmware (especially on POCO F4 and Xiaomi 12T), the Wi-Fi Calling option is hidden in the developer settings to find it:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. 7 times click on MIUI Version. Enter a pattern lock or password.

If there is no direct mention of Wi-Fi Calling in the list, try:
- π Search by keyword IMS (This is the protocol on which VoWiFi works).
- π Reboot the phone after changes β some settings apply only after reboot.
π‘
If after turning off in developer mode the function is activated again, try resetting the network settings: β SIM-map β Resetting mobile network settings.
Method 4: Reset network settings (last resort)
If none of these methods work, you'll have to completely reset your connection settings, which will delete all your stored Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and mobile Internet settings, but it'll be guaranteed to deactivate VoWiFi.
- Go to Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks.
- Select Resetting of mobile network settings.
- Confirm the action (you will need to enter a password or pattern lock).
- After the reboot, check the status of Wi-Fi Calling in Settings β About Phone β SIM-card status.
| Xiaomi model | Does it support VoWiFi? | Can I turn it off in the standard way? | Is the net reset required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 11/12 | Yes. | Yes. | No. |
| POCO X4/X5 | Yes. | Partially (sometimes hidden) | Sometimes. |
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro | Yes. | Yes. | No. |
| Redmi 9A/9C | No. | β | β |

How to check if Wi-Fi Calling is disabled
Even if you deactivate the function in the settings, it can run in the background to make sure it's turned off:
- Call another number and look at the call indicator: πΆ If it's displayed 4G or LTE β VoWiFi is off. πΆ If you see a Wi-Fi sign or icon π with waves, the function is active.
journal
- Enter the phone application ##4636##.
- Select Use Statistics β Wi-Fi Calling.
- If there are records of calls in the log, the function is not disabled.
- Use an analysis app like NetMonster or Network Signal Info, which shows the type of connection you're currently using.
On some MIUI firmware (e.g., Xiaomi 12 Lite), even after VoWiFi is disabled in the settings, the system can automatically connect to it when the signal is weak, in which case only operator-level locking (see Method 5) will help.
π‘
If after all the manipulations, the Wi-Fi Calling indicator continues to burn, contact the operator - perhaps the service is activated at the SIM-card level and requires disconnection through the personal account.
Method 5: Disconnection through the operator
If software methods fail, the problem may be on the mobile operator side, with many providers (such as Tele2 or Yota) activating VoWiFi by default for all supported devices.
- π Through your personal account: Go to the operator's website (for example, my.mts.ru or lk.beeline.ru" β "Call management. Deactivate the "Wi-Fi Calling" or "Wi-Fi Calling" option".
- π Support: MTS: 0890 (tell the operator: "Disable VoWiFi for my number"). Beeline: 0611. MegaFon: 0500. Tele2: 611.
- π¦ In the salon β if online methods do not work, contact the operatorβs office with your passport.
After switching off on the operator side, restart your phone and check the status via ##4636##. Sometimes changes apply within 24 hours.
Frequent problems after disconnecting Wi-Fi Calling
Xiaomi users often experience side effects after deactivating VoWiFi, and here are the most common ways to address them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| 4G calls are not working (VoLTE) | Network reset or protocol conflict | Enable VoLTE manually in Settings β SIM-map β VoLTE |
| The battery goes down fast. | Wi-Fi module remains active in the background | Turn off Wi-Fi network search in sleep mode in Wi-Fi settings |
| Calls are interrupted when switching between networks | Incorrect IMS settings | Reset network settings or update firmware |
| No 4G/LTE badge | APN reset | Set up your APN manually (options can be found on the operatorβs website) |
If after disabling Wi-Fi Calling you notice that the quality of communication has deteriorated, try:
- π Enable improved call quality in settings SIM-map.
- π‘ Manually select a network (for example, only LTE car).
- π Calibrate the battery (discharge to 0% and charge to 100% without interruptions).
