Wi-Fi calls are a useful feature for stable communication in areas with poor mobile network coverage, but sometimes it can be uncomfortable. For example, when connecting to poor Wi-Fi networks, calls begin to interrupt, and the sound becomes robotic. Or you just want to save battery power, because VoWiFi consumes 15-20% more energy on active calls. In this article, we will examine all the ways to turn off VoWiFi on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones, from standard MIUI settings to hidden parameters for power users.
Itβs important to understand that the procedure can vary depending on the version of MIUI, the phone model, and even the carrier. We tested the instructions on the current firmware of 2026 (MIUI 14/15) and took into account the features of popular models β from Xiaomi 13 Pro to budget Redmi Note 12. If your phone runs on the old version of Android (below 10), some menu items may not be available β we will mention this too.
Why VoWiFi can interfere and when to turn it off
VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) technology allows you to make calls over the Internet instead of a cellular network, which in theory should improve the quality of communication, but in practice users face problems:
- πΆ Poor call quality when connected to congested or slow Wi-Fi networks (speed below 5 Mbps).
- π Increased battery consumption β Wi-Fi module is more active than a normal connection.
- π± Conflicts with VPN β corporate VPN Block VoWiFi, which prevents calls from being made.
- π Roaming problems β VoWiFi can automatically connect to paid networks in some countries.
Turning off VoWiFi makes sense if:
- You often call in places with unstable Wi-Fi (cafes, airports, hotels).
- Your carrier does not officially support VoWiFi (for example, some virtual carriers).
- Youβve noticed that after the MIUI update, calls have stopped or the sound has gone.
If you decide to turn off VoWiFi but arenβt sure if your phone supports this feature, check the list of compatible models:
| Xiaomi Series | Support for VoWiFi | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/14, 12T, 11T Pro | Yes (MIUI 13+) | Automatic switching between 4G and Wi-Fi |
| Redmi Note 12/11, Note 10 Pro | Yes (depends on operator) | May require manual activation |
| POCO F5, X5 Pro | Yes (global versions) | The Chinese firmware may not be available. |
| Xiaomi Mi 10, Mi 11 | Yes (update to MIUI 12.5+) | On older versions, MIUI is unstable. |
| Redmi 9A, 8A | No/Partially | Only on certain operators (e.g. Beeline) |
Method 1: Disable VoWiFi via standard MIUI settings
This is the simplest method that works on most modern Xiaomi smartphones, and the instructions are relevant for MIUI 12.5-15:
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to SIM cards and mobile networks (or Mobile network on some models).
- Choose yours. SIM-card (if two of them).
- Find the call point over Wi-Fi or VoWiFi and move the slider to the off position.
If there is no Wi-Fi call point:
- π Try to find it through a search in the settings (lamp at the top of the screen).
- π± Check if your carrier supports VoWiFi (list below).
- π Update. MIUI Up to the latest version β in old firmware, the option may be hidden.

Operators supporting VoWiFi in Russia and CIS (2026):
- π·πΊ MTS β full support at all tariffs.
- π·πΊ Beeline β works, but may require activation through USSD-team *110*181#.
- π·πΊ MegaFon - only for subscribers with tariffs "Everything is possible" and "Everything is free".
- π·πΊ Tele2 β partial support (not on all Xiaomi models).
- πΊπ¦ Kyivstar / Vodafon Ukraine β works on most smartphones.
- π°πΏ Kcell / Tele2 KZ β requires manual adjustment.
β οΈ Note: Some firmware (e.g., Chinese version) MIUI) The Wi-Fi call point may be called Wi-Fi Calling or Volte & Wifi Calling. If you don't find it in the settings, try changing the system language to English - sometimes it helps to detect hidden options.
Method 2: Disconnect via the engineering menu (for power users)
If VoWiFi doesn't turn off as standard or if it's not available in the settings, you can use the engineering menu, which is a method that requires caution, because the wrong actions can disrupt the network.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app and type in the combination: ##4636## Some models may require #86583## or #869434###.
- Select Phone Information (or Phone Information).
- Scroll down to the Wi-Fi Calling section.
- Click on the drop-down menu and select Disable or Off.
- Save the changes and restart the phone.
If the engineering menu does not open:
- π§ Make sure you have global firmware (on Chinese versions) MIUI Engineering menus are often blocked).
- π± Check if the developer mode is disabled (includes in Settings). β The phone. β Version. MIUI β tap 7 times).
- π Some operators (for example, MegaFon) block access to the engineering menu - in this case, only resetting the network settings will help.

| Beeline | *110*181*0# | *110*181# |
| MegaFon | *105*611# β βServicesβ β βWi-Fi Callingβ | *105# |
| Tele2. | There is no USSD, only through the personal account. | *155*1# |
How to use USSD-team:
- Open the Phone app and go to the Keyboard tab.
- Enter the command and press the call button.
- Follow the instructions in response to the operator (usually confirm the shutdown number 0 or 1).
- Reboot your phone to make the changes take effect.
It's important: USSD-Teams may vary by region. If the team does not work, check the current version on your operator's website or through support.
Method 4: Reset network settings (if VoWiFi is not disabled)
If none of the previous methods worked, the radical solution is resetting the network, which will bring all the communication parameters (including VoWiFi, VoLTE, APN) back to factory values. The data on the phone (photos, apps) will not be affected, but you will have to re-enter the passwords from Wi-Fi.
Instructions:
- Open the settings β Reset settings.
- Select Network Settings Reset (or Wi-Fi, Mobile Network, and Bluetooth Reset).
- Confirm the action with a password / pattern lock.
- After the reboot, check the VoWiFi status in the settings SIM-map.
