Blocking unwanted calls and messages is a key feature of modern smartphones, and Xiaomi devices based on MIUI offer several ways to add a number to the blacklist (ES). Despite the apparent simplicity, users often have questions: where is this setting in the latest versions of the firmware, how to lock the number directly from the call log, and why some contacts continue to annoy even after blocking. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, including the hidden functions of MIUI 14/15, and explain how to check whether the number actually hit the emergency.
Xiaomiโs lock interface may vary depending on the model (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T) And the firmware versions, like the older versions. MIUI 12 blacklist was hidden in the settings SIM-And we took that into account, and we developed a general guide that will work for most of the current devices. If you're faced with a situation where the lock is not working, at the end of this article there's a section on solutions to problems.
Method 1: Locking the number through the call log
The fastest way to add a number to an emergency is to do so directly from your call history, which is suitable if you have a call from an unfamiliar caller or spammer and want to block any further contact you make immediately.
Open the Phone app (the phone icon on the home screen) and go to the Journal tab. Find the number you want in the list, which can be marked as "Unknown" or with a city (for example, "Moscow"). Click on the call record to open detailed information. In the upper right corner will appear icon with three dots (โฎ) โ You tap it and select Lock the number, and the system will tell you to confirm the action, you can agree. On some models, like Redmi. 10C) Instead of three dots, there may be a "Block" button right on the call information screen.
- ๐ฑ It works on all Xiaomi smartphones with MIUI 11 and newer.
- ๐ Not only does it block calls, but it also blocks calls. SMS from this number.
- โก The number is automatically added to the systemโs overall blacklist.
โ ๏ธ Note: If the number was saved in contacts, this method will not block it - first delete the contact from the phone book, and then add to the emergency through the log.
Number not saved in the contacts
It's not a bank number or a support number.
You don't expect an important call from this number.
You have enabled emergency synchronization with your Mi Account (if necessary)

Method 2: Add to emergency situations through phone settings
If you want to block a number that hasn't called recently (like an old spam contact), or you prefer centralized blacklist management, use system settings. This method also allows you to view and edit all the locked numbers in one place.
Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management โ Phone. From the menu that opens, select Number Block (some firmware may call it Blacklist or Spam). Here you will see two sections: Locked numbers (already added) and Add to Blacklist. Click on the second item and enter the number manually (with country code, for example, +79123456789) or select from contacts. Confirm the addition.
| MIUI version | The Road to Emergency | Features |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 14/15 | Settings โ Applications โ Phone โ Blocking numbers | There is a separate tab for spam numbers. |
| MIUI 12/13 | Settings โ SIM-maps and mobile networks โ Locking down calls | Maybe you should choose. SIM-map |
| POCO Launcher | Settings โ System and device โ Blocking | The interface is different from the standard MIUI. |
Once you add a number to an emergency, it will be locked at the system level, which means that even if you reset your phone to factory settings (without clearing your Mi Account), the list of blocked contacts will remain. To check if the lock is working, ask a friend to call you from a locked number - you should not hear any beep or notification.

Method 3: Blocking through contacts
If an unwanted number is already stored in your phone book (for example, a former colleague or an annoying salesperson), it is more convenient to block it directly from the Contacts app, which also allows you to add entire contact groups to an emergency if you sync them with your Google or Mi Account.
Open the Contacts app, find the contact you want, and tap it. In the upper right corner, click three dots (โฎ) and select Lock. The system will ask if you want to block only calls or if you want to block the same. SMS โ If the contact is linked to multiple numbers (e.g. work and personal), you will have to lock each number separately.
- ๐ฅ You can block contacts from Google, Mi Account and local phone book.
- ๐ If the contact is synced to the cloud, the lock will remain after the phone is reset.
- ๐ต A blocked contact will not be able to see your status in Mi Chat or other Xiaomi services.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you block a contact that is in a shared chat (for example, WhatsApp or Telegram), it will still be able to write to you there. MIUI It only works on standard calls and SMS.
Method 4: Using built-in anti-spam
Xiaomi has integrated MIUI with a spam protection system that automatically detects fraudulent and advertising calls, which is based on the Mi Security database and can block numbers before they reach you, but you need to turn it on and configure it first.
Go to Settings. โ PapaSSWORD & SECURITY โ Spam protection (in Russian, this may be called Spam Protection) Activate the Spam Call Block switch and enable Auto Block option, and you can manually blacklist numbers or view the blocked call log. Please note that this feature requires an internet connection to work โ the spam number database is updated online.
How does automatic locking work in MIUI?
The advantage of this method is that it protects against spam proactively, without requiring you to manually add each number, but it also has drawbacks:
- ๐ The spam number database may not include local scams (for example, if the spammer uses a new number).
- ๐ถ Requires a permanent Internet connection to update the database.
- ๐ Sometimes blocks useful calls (for example, from courier services).
How to check if the lock is working
Adding a number to an emergency is half the battle, and you have to make sure that the lock is really active, otherwise the spammer will keep bothering you, and there are several ways to check that at MIUI, and we recommend using them all for reliability.
The first way is to ask a friend or colleague to call you from a locked number. If the locking works, you won't hear the call, and the call log will show a record marked Locked. The second way is to go to Settings โ Apps โ Phone โ Lock numbers and check if there is a number on the list. The third way (for advanced users) is to use the engineering menu to see the call logs. To do this, type in the Phone application code ##4636#, go to Phone Information and select the Call log, which shows all connection attempts, including those blocked.
| Method of verification | How to execute | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Test call | Ask a friend to call from a locked number | โญโญโญโญโญ |
| Viewing the emergency list | Check the number in Settings โ Phone โ Lock | โญโญโญโญ |
| Engineering menu | Code ##4636### โ Call log | โญโญโญ |
| Notification log | Check the notification curtain after the test call | โญโญ |
If the lock is not working, check the following points:
- Make sure the number is added to the emergency room correctly (with country code, no spaces).
- Check if the lock function is disabled in Spam protection settings.
- Restart your phone โ sometimes the system lock services โhangโ.
- Update the firmware: in the old versions of MIUI were bugs with emergencies.
๐ก
If the blocked number still calls, check whether it is saved in contacts under a different name or whether the spammer uses spoofing.
Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after the lock is set up correctly, Xiaomi users sometimes find spam calls keep coming in.See situations and ways to fix them.
Problem 1: The number is blocked, but calls keep coming in. Solution: Maybe the spammer uses a number swap (Caller ID spoofing technology), in which case locking a specific number will not help, you need to activate the function Block unknown numbers in Spam protection or use third-party applications like Truecaller.
Problem 2: After the emergency phone is reset, the solution is clear: If you reset the device without being tied to your Mi Account, the lock list will not remain. To avoid this, export the emergency to the file before the reset: Settings โ Applications โ Phone โ Number Lock โ Export. After the reset, import the list back.
Problem 3: You can't add a number to an emergency, the button is inactive. Solution: This may be due to operator restrictions (e.g. corporate ones). SIM-If the number starts with service codes (e.g. 8800) try adding the number through the Contacts app or edit it manually, removing the unnecessary characters.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some of the scoring for POCO Redmi (especially global versions) lock function can be disabled by default due to regional restrictions. in this case, upgrade to the latest version of the firmware or use alternative methods.
๐ก
If you frequently receive spam calls from multiple numbers, enable Spam protection to block suspicious prefixes, which will help you cut off most fraudulent calls automatically.
Alternative methods of blocking
If standard MIUI methods donโt suit you (for example, due to bugs or insufficient functionality), you can use third-party solutions. They offer advanced features such as blocking keywords in SMS, creating whitelists or integrating with cloud spam databases.
The most popular apps to block on Xiaomi:
- ๐ก๏ธ Truecaller โ detects spam numbers on a global database, supports the Russian-language interface.
- ๐ Blacklist Plus โ allows you to block numbers by mask (for example, all numbers with a prefix) +375), there is a time-lock scheduler.
- ๐ต Call Blocker โ a lightweight application without advertising, supports export / import of emergency lists.
- ๐ Hiya โ specializes in blocking fraudulent calls, integrates with system settings.
Before installing third-party blockers, check their permissions - some apps request access to call histories and SMS, which may not be secure. We recommend using Truecaller or Hiya, as they have a good reputation and regularly update spam databases.
To install a third-party blocker:
- Download the app from Google Play (like Truecaller).
- Run it and provide the necessary permissions (access to contacts, call logs, SMS).
- In the application settings, activate the option to block calls.
- Add numbers to the emergency manually or trust automatic lock.
๐ก
Third-party blockers may conflict with the built-in Spam protection feature in MIUI. If calls stop blocking after installing the application, disable system spam protection.
