Forgot your home Wi-Fi password and no data sticker on your router? There are several ways to extract your stored security key on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones, both through standard MIUI settings and through hidden system features. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for MIUI 12-14 firmware, including bypassing restrictions on new versions of Android.
Important: Not all methods work on the latest models (e.g. Xiaomi 13/14 or Redmi Note 12) due to tightening security policies. We noted the limitations for each method, and added alternative solutions if the phone is not rooted or locked.
If you need a password urgently, start with the first one, which is the easiest one, and works on 90 percent of devices. ADB-Teams that help you even without root rights.
Method 1: Viewing passwords through Wi-Fi settings (MIUI 12β14)
The most obvious way is to look at the connected network menu, but in recent versions of MIUI, this option is often hidden or blocked.
- Open the Settings. β Wi-Fi.
- Tap the name of your network (under the word "Connected").
- Scroll down to the Password block. If you don't have one, move on to the next one.
- Click Show Password and confirm with a fingerprint/pattern lock.

If the password is displayed as dots but not copied, take a screenshot of the screen (click Volume Down + Power) and zoom in on the gallery. Sometimes the characters become readable.
Method 2: Export passwords through "Backup" (without root)
The MIUI backup feature allows you to save Wi-Fi data to a file that you can read on a PC, which works on most devices except the newest (2023-2026) with Android 13/14.
Instructions:
- π± Open the Settings. β The phone. β Backup (or Additional) β Backup and reset).
- π Select Local Backup and create a new copy (make sure the box is opposite Wi-Fi").
- πΎ After completion, copy the file backup/AllBackup/... on the computer (it will be in.mbk format).
- π₯οΈ Use the MiBackup Extractor program (you can download it from the XDA Developers) for data extraction.
Inside the archive, there will be a wifiPassword.txt file with network names and passwords, and on devices with MIUI 14, this method may not work due to the encryption of backups by the new algorithm.
Make sure your phone has enough memory (minimum 500MB)
Connect charging (the process can take 10-15 minutes)
Download MiBackup Extractor in advance on PC
Disable the antivirus (it can block unpacking)

Method 3: Getting a password through QR-code (MIUI 13β14)
Starting with MIUI 13, Xiaomi has a generation function QR-It's code for connecting to Wi-Fi, and it can be decrypted using third-party applications:
- Go to Settings β Wi-Fi and tap on your network.
- Select "Share the Network" (or "QR-code").
- Take a screenshot. QR-code (if the phone asks for confirmation by fingerprint - confirm).
- Scan the code using the WiFi Key Recovery app (available on Google Play).

If QR-the code is not scanned, try to increase the contrast of the image in any graphic editor (for example, in Google Photos using the tool Edit). β Light").
Method 4: Viewing Passwords through the Router Web Interface
If you have access to a router (e.g., Xiaomi Mi Router, Redmi Router or TP-Link, ASUS devices), you can find the password through its control panel. This is a universal method that does not depend on the phone model.
Steps:
- Find out. IP-Router address: usually 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.31.1).
- Enter the address in the browser on your phone or PC. Login / password by default β admin/admin (or see the sticker on the router).
- Go to the Wi-Fi section (or Wireless Network).
- The password will be in the "PSK Password" or "Key" field.
| Mark the router | IP-address | Default login/password | The Way to Wi-Fi Password |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Router | 192.168.31.1 | admin / password from the sticker | Settings β Wi-Fi β Security settings |
| TP-Link | 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 | admin/admin | Wireless β Wireless Security |
| ASUS | 192.168.1.1 | admin/admin | Wireless Networks β Authentication settings |
| Keenetic | 192.168.1.1 | admin/1234 | Wi-Fi β Access point β Security |
β οΈ Warning: If you change your router login/password and forget it, you'll have to reset to factory settings (reset button on the back), and then the Wi-Fi settings will reset, and you'll have to reset the network.
Method 5: Retrieving passwords through ADB (for advanced)
If previous methods didn't work, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires you to connect your phone to your PC, but you don't need root rights.
- Turn on "Debugging by" USB" on the phone: Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI (Tap 7 times to become a developer, then Settings β Additionally. β For developers β Debugging by USB.
- Connect the phone to the PC and confirm the debugging permission.
- Download ADB Tools and open the command line in the folder with adb.exe.
- Execute the command: adb shell su -c "cat /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml | grep psk" If root is requested but not, use the alternative command: adb shell "cmd wifi list-networks" Then: adb shell "cmd wifi get-network-info [network_id] --verbose" (substitute [network_id] to the network number from the first output).
The password will be in the psk="your password" bar, which works on MIUI 12-14, but may require additional rights on new devices.
What if the ADB issues a βpermission deniedβ error?
Method 6: Use of third-party applications (at risk)
Google Play has apps that promise to show saved Wi-Fi passwords, such as:
- π WiFi Password Viewer (requires root)
- π‘ WiFi Key Recovery (works with WiFi Key Recovery) QR-code)
- π οΈ Network Info II (Technical data of the networks)
β οΈ Note: Most of these applications either do not work without root or contain malicious code. We recommend using them only as a last resort and pre-check reviews on the site. 4PDA.
If you do decide to try, turn off the internet on your phone before installing it and check the app's permissions. No legitimate application should ask for access to SMS or contacts to view Wi-Fi passwords.
Frequent problems and solutions
Some users have difficulty trying to find out the password, and here are the typical situations and their solutions:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| There is no "Show Password" option in Wi-Fi settings | Limit MIUI on Android 12+ | Use Method 3 (QR-code or Method 4 (router) |
| ADB issues a "device unauthorized" error | Not confirmed debugging on USB | Disconnect/connect the cable and confirm the permission on the phone |
| The backup copy does not contain passwords | MIUI 14 encrypts data | Try to create a copy on another device (e.g. Redmi Note 10) |
| QR-code not scanned | Low screen resolution | Take a screenshot and process it in a graphic editor |
1. Reset your router settings (reset button) and reset your Wi-Fi.
2. contact the provider - some (for example, Rostelecom or Beeline) can send a password to the provider SMS or in a private office.-->
