Poco M3
In this article, we will look at all possible scenarios in which a smartphone may not turn on, and give step-by-step instructions based on the nuances of a particular model, from basic methods (charging, forced reboot) to advanced ones (EDL mode, firmware via the Mi Flash Tool), and you will learn how to distinguish hardware from software failure and when it is really time to carry the phone for repair.
The material will be useful for both beginners and experienced users - we explained each step in as much detail as possible, but without unnecessary "water". All instructions are tested on the Poco M3 with original and custom firmware.
1. Basic ways of turning on: charging and buttons
Start with the simplest -- check if the battery is dead. The Poco M3 is known for its capacious 6,000mAh battery, but even that can sit down to zero if the phone has been idle for a long time. In deep discharge, the smartphone may not show signs of life even when connected to a charger.
Here's what we need to do:
- Connect the original cable and power supply (preferably 18W or 22.5W as included).
- Leave the phone to charge for at least 30 to 40 minutes. The charge indicator may not show on the screen - this is normal with a deep discharge.
- Try holding the Power button for 10-15 seconds, sometimes helping to wake up the power controller.
If your phone doesn't respond after charging, try another cable and power supply. Cheap accessories may not provide enough current. Also check the USB-C port for debris or damage - clean it carefully with a wooden toothpick.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use metal objects to clean the port! This can close contacts and disable the motherboard.
If the charging indicator catches fire but the phone doesnβt turn on beyond the POCO logo, move on to the next section β thereβs likely a software failure.
2. Forced reset (Hard Reset)
When the Poco M3 is stuck on the logo, rebooting cyclically or not responding to clicks, forced reboot helps, a method that doesn't delete data, it just restarts the system.
Instructions:
- Hold the Power button for 10-20 seconds until the screen goes out.
- If it doesnβt work, press Power + Volume up and hold it until it vibrates (usually 10-15 seconds).
- Release the buttons when the POCO logo appears.
If the phone is turned on but is unstable (lacks, spontaneously restarts), you should make a factory reset via the Recovery menu.
3. Log in Recovery Mode and reset settings
Recovery Menu is an Android emergency mode that lets you reset, clear your cache, or install an update manually to get in:
Method 1 (standard):
- Turn off the phone (if it's on, hold the Power until it's turned off).
- Press Power + Volume up and hold until the Mi logo appears.
- Release the buttons and you will be taken to Recovery.
Method 2 (if the first one fails):
- Connect the phone to the charger.
- Press Power + Volume up + Volume down at the same time.
- Keep until the menu appears (it can take up to 30 seconds).
In the Recovery menu, the volume buttons (Up/Down for navigation, Power for selection) are used to reset:
- Choose Wipe Data β Wipe All Data.
- Confirm the action (usually you need to enter Yes).
- After reset, select Reboot β Reboot to System.
β οΈ Warning: Resetting to factory settings deletes all data, including photos, messages and installed apps! If your phone had important files, try extracting them first via Fastboot or ADB (below).
Backup important data (if the phone is turned on)
Charge the battery to at least 50%
Prepare a Mi Account (if linked)
Make sure that SIM-card and memory card removed (optional)-->
4.Fastboot Mode: What to do if the phone is stuck in it
Fastboot mode (also known as Bootloader Mode) is used to run the phone through a computer, and sometimes the Poco M3 can boot automatically after a failed update or reset, and on the outside it looks like a black screen with the words FASTBOOT and the image of a hare in the hat (Mi Bunny).
To get out of Fastboot:
- Hold the Power button for 30 to 40 seconds until the phone restarts.
- If it doesnβt work, connect your phone to your PC, install Mi USB Driver drivers and type in the command: fastboot reboot
- If the phone returns to Fastboot again, it means that the firmware is damaged - you will need to reinstall it (instructions in the next section).
If you intentionally logged in to Fastboot (for example, to unlock the bootloader), remember:
- π Unlocking Bootloader erases all data and requires a Mi Account link.
- β οΈ Continuous use of Fastboot without firmware can drain the battery to zero.
- π± For Poco. M3 Official unlocking takes 72 hours to wait after request.
What if the PC doesnβt see the phone in Fastboot?
5. Firmware via Fastboot (if the phone doesn't turn on)
If the Poco M3 doesn't load beyond the logo, reboots or freezes cyclically, the firmware is likely damaged, and Fastboot flashing helps, and this method works even if the phone doesn't turn on, but it responds to a PC connection.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Windows computer 7/10/11 (on Mac/Linux There may be problems with drivers).
- π The original cable. USB-C (preferably from a set).
- π§ Mi Flash Tool Programming.
- π¦ Poco firmware M3 (Download from Xiaomifirmwareupdater.com).
Step-by-step:
- Unpack the firmware in a folder without Cyrillic characters (for example, C:\poco_m3_firmware).
- Install the Mi Flash Tool and drivers (they come with the package).
- Turn off your phone and press Power + Volume down to log into the Fastboot.
- Connect your phone to your PC. In the Mi Flash Tool, press Refresh, and your device should appear.
- Select the firmware folder, select Clean All mode (full clean) and press Flash.
- Wait until the process is complete (it takes 5-10 minutes).
β οΈ Note: Fastboot firmware erases all data, including internal memory (but does not affect the microSD card). If your phone had important files, try extracting them first through the microSD card. ADB (If the phone is switched on somehow).
| Type of firmware | Download link | For what occasions? |
|---|---|---|
| Stable (stable) | Download | For everyday use, if you need to return the phone to factory condition. |
| Developer (developer) | Download | If you need to unlock the bootloader or install custom firmware. |
| EEA (Europe) | Download | For phones purchased in Europe (support for local frequencies and services). |
| Global | Download | Poco M3 (Google Services Support) |
π‘
If the phone hangs on the logo after firmware, try stitching again with the Clean All and Lock mode selection in the Mi Flash Tool, which will lock the bootloader and return the phone to a fully factory state.
EDL mode: the extreme case for "brick" phones
If the Poco M3 does not respond to any buttons, is not detected in the Fastboot and does not even charge - this is a sign of a complete software failure (the so-called "brick"), In this case, only firmware through EDL (Emergency Download Mode) mode will help.
Warning: EDL mode requires special equipment (EDL cable or soldering skills to close contacts) and firmware experience. Wrong actions can permanently bring the phone down!
How to log into EDL:
- π Method 1 (via cable): Buy or make a homemade EDL cable (closes the contacts) GND and EDL port USB-C). Connect it to a phone turned off β the PC must identify the device as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
- π§ Method 2 (via Testpoint): Disassemble the phone, find contacts on the motherboard EDL (usually signed) and close them with tweezers while connecting to the PC.
For firmware in EDL, use Mi Flash Tool or QFil (for firmware in.mbn format). The process is similar to Fastboot, but requires a firmware file specifically for EDL (usually marked with firehose).
β οΈ Attention: Firmware through EDL block IMEI Use only firmware from trusted sources (e.g. Xiaomi Firmware Updater).

EDL mode is the last chance to bring your phone back to life without replacing the motherboard. If you're not sure about your skills, you'd better go to a service center.
7 Hardware problems: when to carry for repair
If none of the software methods worked, the problem could be the hardware.
- π The phone does not charge at all (even after replacing the cable and power supply).
- π₯ Artifacts appear on the screen (stripes, flickering, broken pixels).
- π₯ The phone is overheated even when it is off.
- π΅ No reaction to buttons, vibration, connection to PC.
- π§ Traces of oxidation or corrosion on the board (if you disassembled the phone).
Typical hardware faults of the Poco M3:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Cost of repair (approximately) |
|---|---|---|
| No charge. | Failure of the Power Controller (PMIC) or USB-C connector | 1 500β3 000 β½ |
| Not turned on after falling | A dump or crack on the motherboard, damage to BGA chips | 3 000β8 000 β½ |
| Cyclical reboot | Failure of RAM (RAM) or processor | 4 000β10 000 β½ |
| The screen is not working (but the phone is vibrating) | Damage to the display or matrix plume | 2 500β6 000 β½ |
If you suspect a hardware malfunction, donβt try to repair the phone yourself (especially if you donβt have soldering experience). BGA-Contact Xiaomi Service Center or a trusted workshop before your visit:
- π Write it down. IMEI phone (on a box or under a battery).
- π Backup your data if the phone is switched on.
- π° Check the cost of diagnosis (in some services it is paid).
