How to remove the “Google Account Action Required” requirement on Xiaomi after a reset

Have you encountered the message “Google Account Action Needed”** after resetting your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone? This lock is part of the FRP (Factory Reset Protection) protection system that is activated when you try to bypass factory settings through Hard Reset. Even if you are the device owner, Google requires you to confirm the rights to the account associated with the phone before the reset.

The problem is especially relevant for Android 9+ devices, where FRP has become a mandatory security feature. In this article, we will discuss the legitimate and technical ways to unblock, from standard login/password input to Fastboot and EDL bypassing. Importantly, the methods are different for different Xiaomi models (for example, Redmi Note 10 Pro vs POCO X3 Pro) and MIUI versions.

If you bought your phone with your hands and the previous owner didn’t untie your account, or forgot your Google details, read on. We’ll also warn you about the risks of “gray” bypassing methods (up to blocking IMEI).

Why does the message “Google Account Action is required” appear?

FRP (Factory Reset Protection) is a theft protection mechanism introduced by Google in Android 5.1 Lollipop and tightened in subsequent versions. On Xiaomi devices, it works like this:

  • 🔒 When you first turn on your phone, you link a Google account (or Mi Account).
  • 📱 After resetting through Settings → Reset or Hard Reset (Power buttons) + Vol+) The system requires you to confirm the rights of the account.
  • ⚠️ If the account is not confirmed, the phone is blocked at the initial setup stage.

Xiaomi FRP works even if:

  • 🔄 You reset your phone via Mi Recovery (official recovery menu).
  • 📦 Delete Google account manually before reset, but didn’t disable device administrator.
  • 🔧 Updated firmware through Fastboot without pre-deleting FRP.

⚠️ Note: On Xiaomi models with Qualcomm chipset (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro)+) circumvention FRP through EDL It may lead to a blockage. IMEI, If you use informal tools, check the processor model in Settings before you act. → The phone. → Full specification.

Official method: Google account confirmation

If you remember the account data associated with the phone before the reset, use the standard method:

  1. On the lock screen, select “Action required with a Google account”**.
  2. Enter the email and password from the account that was on the device before the reset.
  3. If two-factor authentication (2FA) is requested, confirm the login via Google Authenticator or SMS.
  4. After successful authorization, the phone will unlock and you will be able to complete the initial setup.

If you forgot your password:

  • 🔑 Go to the Google Recovery page: accounts.google.com/signin/recovery.
  • 📧 Specify the email linked to your phone and follow the recovery instructions (via backup email or phone).
  • ⚠️ If the account is deleted or blocked, recovery is not possible – alternative methods will be required.

⚠️ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi) 10T) After 5 failed attempts to enter a password, Google blocks the possibility of further attempts for 24 hours. EDL.

💡

If you have Google Contact Sync enabled, try remembering emails from the contacts you saved on another device, and often people link the main account to the phone, which is also used on a PC.

FRP bypasses Fastboot (for Qualcomm)

If the official method doesn’t work and your Xiaomi is equipped with a Qualcomm chipset (check in Settings → About phone), you can try the Fastboot bypass. This method is suitable for most Redmi and POCO models on Android 10/11/12.

Requirements:

  • 💻 Computer with Windows/Linux and installed Qualcomm drivers.
  • 🔌 Cable USB (preferably original).
  • 📥 Utilities: ADB & Fastboot Tools, Mi Flash Tool.

Step-by-step:

  1. Turn off the phone. Press the power. + Vol− for the entrance to the Fastboot.
  2. Connect the device to the PC and check for detection by command: fastboot devices If the device is not detected, install drivers manually through Device Manager.
  3. Download the special FRP-bypass for your model (for example, frp_bypass_mi11.zip).
  4. File the command: fastboot flash frp frp_bypass.img
  5. Reboot the phone: fastboot reboot

Once you restart, the FRP lock should disappear. If not, try an alternative method through EDL (see next section).

☑️ Preparation for bypassing FRP via Fastboot

FRP bypasses EDL (for advanced users)

EDL (Emergency Download Mode) is a “emergency” firmware mode that allows you to bypass FRP at the bootloader level. The method works on Qualcomm devices, but requires authorization (for new Xiaomi models from 2021).

Warnings:

  • ⚠️ Without authorization (auth file) firmware through EDL block IMEI.
  • ⚠️ Unofficial firmware may contain malicious code.
  • ⚠️ On models with MediaTek (for example, Redmi) 9A) use SP Flash Tool.

Instructions for Qualcomm:

  1. Download the Mi Flash Tool and the firmware for your model (e.g. fastboot-rom for POCO X3 NFC).
  2. Turn off the phone. Hold on to Vol.+ + Vol− and plug in the cable. USB — device will move into EDL (screen will be black).
  3. In the Mi Flash Tool, select the downloaded firmware and press Refresh – the device should appear in the list.
  4. Press Flash and wait until it is completed (the process will take 5-10 minutes).
  5. After the reboot, perform the initial setup – the FRP will be reset.

Models 2022+ For example, the Xiaomi 12 Pro EDL You need an authorized Mi Developer account with an unlocked bootloader, and without that, the firmware will block the network (IMEI).

What if IMEI disappeared after EDL?
If the phone is no longer catching the network after running through EDL, it means that the NVRAM (modem data section) is erased. To restore: 1. Download the NVRAM backup for your model (look for 4PDA or XDA). 2. Run it through QFil or Mi Flash Tool in EDL. 3 mode. If the IMEI does not recover, contact the service center - self-editing IMEI is prohibited by law.

FRP bypass on MediaTek (Redmi 9, 9A, 9C, etc.)

Devices on MediaTek chipsets (e.g. Redmi 9A, POCO C3) do differently - through the SP Flash Tool utility or MTK Bypass. The main advantage is that there is no risk of blocking IMEI, since FRP is stored in the user partition.

Tools required:

  • 💾 Firmware (scatter file) for your model.
  • 🖥️ Utility. SP Flash Tool (version 5.2)+).
  • 🔌 MediaTek drivers (set automatically when connected).

Step-by-step:

  1. Download and unpack the firmware for your model (for example, Redmi_9A_global_images_V12.0.1.0.QCDMIXM_20210310.0000.00_10.0_global).
  2. Launch the SP Flash Tool, press Choose and select the scatter file from the firmware folder.
  3. In the section list, uncheck all boxes except FRP (or protect1/protect2).
  4. Connect the phone to the PC (without pressed buttons – drivers will be installed automatically).
  5. Click Download in the SP Flash Tool and wait for completion (10-30 seconds).
  6. Turn off the phone, turn it on and complete the setup – FRP will be removed.

If the SP Flash Tool does not define the device:

  • 🔧 Check if MediaTek Preloader drivers are installed (Device Manager should show up) MTK USB Port).
  • 🔄 Try another one. USB-cable or port (preferably) USB 2.0).
  • 📥 Download the alternative version SP Flash Tool (such as Smart Phone Flash Tool).

💡

On MediaTek, FRP bypassing is safer than on Qualcomm, as it does not affect critical partitions (such as a modem), however, new models (such as Redmi 10C) may require authorization through Mi Account.

Alternative methods: ADB and bypassing through Mi Account

If the standard methods didn’t work, try bypassing ADB (for Android 9–11) or resetting Mi Account (if the phone is tied to a Xiaomi account).

Method 1: ADB bypass (Android 9–11)

  1. On the lock screen FRP Connect your phone to a PC with installed ADB-driver.
  2. Open the command line and check the connection: Adb devices
  3. Follow the commands for bypassing: adb shell content insert --uri content://settings/secure --bind name:s:user_setup_complete --bind value:s:1
  4. Reboot your phone: adb reboot

Method 2: Reset Mi Account (if tied)

  • 📱 On the lock screen, select “Login via Mi Account»**.
  • 🔄 If you have forgotten your password, restore it via account.xiaomi.com (you will need an email or phone number).
  • 🔓 After logging into Mi Account, lock FRP drop off automatically.

On Xiaomi with Android 12+, these methods may not work due to tightening security policies, in which case only the firmware through EDL or contact the service remains.

What to do if nothing helps

If all of these methods fail, you have three options:

  1. Contact the Xiaomi Service Center: 📍 Find the official service on the site mi.com/global/service. 💰 Withdrawal cost FRP: from 1000 before 3000 RUB (depending on the model). ⏳ Term: 1–3 day (purchase confirmation or warranty card required).
  2. Buy authorized FRP-bypass: 🛒 On the grounds, like 4PDA or XDA Auth files are sold for EDL (Price: 500-1500 rubles). ⚠️ Risk of running into scammers – check the reviews of the seller.

Selling your phone for parts

  • 💸 If the device is permanently locked (for example, after a failure) EDL), It can be sold as a display/battery donor.
  • 📱 Parts price: 20-50% of the cost of a new phone.
Will the phone work after bypassing FRP via EDL?
If the firmware is through EDL It's a success, it's a failure, it's a phone that works fine: 📶 On Qualcomm models without authorization (auth) network may disappear (IMEI). 🔋 There may be bugs in the work of the camera or sensors, if the firmware is unofficial. 📱 After the round, it is recommended to make a full reset for stable operation. IMEI After firmware, type in the dialer *#06#. If zeros are displayed or "unknown", you will need to restore NVRAM.
Can we get around? FRP Xiaomi with help OTG-cable?
On some Samsung or Huawei models, FRP circumvention is possible through OTG (flash drive connection). On Xiaomi, this method does not work due to the peculiarities of implementing FRP in MIUI. The only “iron” way to bypass without a PC is Test Point, but it is only suitable for older devices and requires disassembling the phone. For modern Xiaomi (2020+), this method is irrelevant.
How to avoid FRP when selling a Xiaomi phone?
To prevent the new owner from being blocked before selling: Delete Google account in Settings → Accounts → Google. Unplug Mi Account in Settings → Mi Account → Sign out. Make Hard Reset via Settings → Reset (not Recovery!). Check that after a reset, the phone does not require you to enter your account details. If you sell your phone through Avito or Yulu, indicate in the description that FRP is disabled - this will increase customer confidence.
