The Xiaomi Redmi 8A remains a popular budget smartphone even years after its release, thanks to its robust MIUI platform and simple interface. But many users have difficulty managing a phone book: contacts are duplicated, not deleted, or suddenly restored after synchronization. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to delete contacts on the Redmi 8A, from basic to hidden system functions, and explain why sometimes contacts “return” and how to avoid this.
The model features MIUI 10/11 on Android 9 Pie, where the logic of working with contacts is different from modern versions. For example, there is no separate application Google Contacts, and synchronization with a Xiaomi account can conflict with Google, we tested all the methods on a real device and identified key nuances that are not described in the official documentation.
1. Delete contact through the standard “Contacts” application
The most obvious way is to use the built-in Contacts app (an icon with a human silhouette on a green background). On Redmi 8A, it runs on MIUI Contacts, which is integrated with Xiaomi and Google services. Importantly, if the contact is synchronized with the cloud, removing it locally does not guarantee disappearance from other devices.
Step-by-step:
- 📱 Open the Contacts app** on the home screen or menu.
- 🔍 Enter the contact name in the search bar or find it manually in the list.
- ✏️ Click on the contact, then tap on the Edit icon** (pencil in the upper right corner).
- 🗑️ Scroll down and select "Delete"** (red button). Confirm the action.
If the Remove button** is inactive or absent, this means that the contact is tied to the SIM-Google card or account, in which case proceed to the following ways.

Contact is not tied to SIM-map (see section 3)|

2. Delete via Google account (if contact synced)
On Redmi 8A, default contacts can sync with Google even if you didn't set it up specifically. To delete that contact, you need to do it through Google Contacts, either on your phone or through the web. Local deletion on your device won't work: contact will return the next time you update the data.
Instructions for the telephone:
- Return to the Contacts app and go to Contact Management (three dots in the upper right corner).
If the contact is not deleted, it may be linked to another account (e.g. Xiaomi or SIM).

3. Removal of contacts with SIM-map
On the Redmi. 8A Contacts can be stored not only in the memory of the phone or the cloud, but also on the phone. SIM-These contacts are usually marked. SIM next to the name and have a character restriction (for example, only 1 phone number without additional fields.
How to do this:

Mass removal of contacts (to clean the doubles)
If the phone book has a lot of unnecessary or duplicate contacts, it is inconvenient to delete them one by one. MIUI for Redmi 8A has a hidden mass delete function, but it works unintuitively. Importantly, this method removes all contacts of the selected type (for example, only from Google or only with SIM), so use it carefully.
Step-by-step:
- Open the "Contact» → «Contact management” (three points).
| Source of contact | Are they permanently removed? | Are they re-established after synchronization? |
|---|---|---|
| Device (local memory) | Yes. | No. |
| Yes, but only if removed and in the cloud. | Yes, unless removed from Google Contacts | |
| SIM-map | Yes, irrevocably. | No. |
| Xiaomi (MI-account) | Yes, but stay in the cloud Xiaomi | Yes, next time you log in. |
Important: Before mass deletion, export your contacts to.vcf via the Import/Export menu**. The file can be saved to Google Drive or sent to your own mail.
5. Removal through MI-account (if the contact is synced with Xiaomi)
Many Redmi users 8A They do not know that their contacts are automatically synchronized with the MI-This can cause problems: even after the contact on the phone is deleted, it is restored the next time the data is updated, and to delete it permanently, you need to do it through the web version of the Mi Cloud.
Instructions:
- Go to i.mi.com and log in to your website. MI-account.
- Find the right contact, tick it and click “Delete”**.

6. Problem Solving: Contact not removed or returned
Sometimes the contacts on the Redmi 8A are unpredictable: they don't get deleted, duplicated or restored after cleaning.
Problem 1: Contact is removed but reappears.
⚠️ This is due to a synchronization conflict between Google and MI-Solution: Turn off contact sync for one of your accounts in Settings → Accounts, then delete the contact again.
Problem 2: The Remove button is inactive.
- 🔒 Contact is protected from change (e.g. system or application-based contact).

- 🔄 Contact synced with multiple accounts – remove it from each source separately.
Problem 3: After resetting the settings, the old contacts returned.
