Fastboot mode on Xiaomi smartphones is a special state of the device designed to firmware, unlock the bootloader or restore the system via the PC. However, many users face a situation where the phone βhangsβ on the screen with a rabbit in a hat and the inscription FASTBOOT, not responding to standard exit methods. The reasons can be different from accidental pressing of the combination of buttons to failure when updating the software.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to exit Fastboot on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices β from elementary (reboot) to advanced (working with ADB and MiFlash). Each method is tested on models 2020-2026 and adapted to the latest versions of MIUI. Importantly, if your smartphone does not respond to buttons or connect to a PC, the problem may be deeper β read the section on βhardware failuresβ.
1. Simple restart: when a "hard" reboot helps
In 60% of cases, exiting Fastboot is reduced to a forced reboot, which works if the mode was activated accidentally (for example, when holding down the power + volume buttons) or after an unsuccessful attempt to update βover the airβ.
How to do this:
- π Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds until the screen goes out.
- π Wait 30 seconds β the device must automatically boot into the MIUI.
- π If the screen remains black, plug the charger and try again (sometimes helps with a discharged battery).
If FASTBOOT appears again after the reboot, it signals a bootloader damage or firmware conflict, in which case proceed to the following methods.
β οΈ Attention: On Xiaomi models 12T, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ Holding the power button for more than 30 seconds can cause a hardware reset!
2. button combinations: secret combinations for different models
The manufacturer has embedded hidden combinations in the devices to exit service modes, which differ depending on the series of smartphones and the version of the bootloader.
| Xiaomi model | Button combination | Action. |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 8/9/10, POCO X3 | Food + Volume up (10 seconds) | Switch to Recovery, then select Reboot to System |
| Mi 11/12, Xiaomi 13 | Power + Volume up + Volume down (15 seconds) | Forced reboot with Fastboot bypass |
| POCO F3/F4, Redmi K40 | Loudness up β Nutrition β Loudness down (alternately) | Resetting loader status |
If the combinations donβt work, check:
- π Battery level (should be) >15%).
- π Connecting a charger (sometimes blocking button recognition).
- π οΈ Physical condition of the buttons (sticking or damage).
π‘
On smartphones with AMOLED-With screens (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra) try to press the combination in complete darkness β so you can see the reaction of the display to the presses.
3.Exit through Recovery: When the system is partially operational
If the smartphone responds to button combinations but does not load into MIUI, try entering Recovery Mode. This is a lifeline for resetting or flashing without a PC.
- Turn off the device (hold Power + Volume up 10 seconds).
- Once the screen goes out, immediately press Power + Volume up until the Mi logo appears.
- In the Recovery menu, select Reboot β System (control β volume buttons, confirmation β power).
If the Reboot to System is not available or is inactive:
- π± Run Wipe Cache (does not delete data).
- π Try Reboot to Bootloader, then reboot.
- π¨ In extreme cases, Wipe Data (full reset, data will be deleted!).
β οΈ Note: On devices with locked bootloader (Xiaomi) 12S Ultra, Redmi K50 Pro) selecting Wipe Data may result in a Mi Account authorization requirement after rebooting!

4.Using ADB and Fastboot: for advanced users
If standard methods donβt work, connect your smartphone to your PC and use the ADB (Android Debug Bridge) and Fastboot tools. This method requires installing Xiaomi and Platform Tools drivers from Google.
Step 1: Installation of drivers and tools
- Download Platform Tools and unpack it to the root of the C:\ disk.
- Install drivers for your model from the Xiaomi website (Support β Drivers section).
- Connect your phone to your PC in Fastboot mode (should be defined as Android Bootloader Interface).
Step 2. Exit teams
Open the command line in the platform-tools folder and type:
fastboot devicesIf the device is detected, do:
fastboot continueOr for a forced reboot:
fastboot rebootIf the commands don't work, try:
- π Change. USB-port (better to use) USB 2.0).
- π Reinstall drivers in manual mode (via Device Manager).
- π Check if the debugging is included USB Developer settings (if the phone has ever booted).
What if the PC doesnβt see the device in Fastboot?
5.Flashing through MiFlash: A last resort
If all previous methods fail, you just have to reflash the device through the official MiFlash utility, which will delete all the data, but bring the smartphone back to life. Importantly, this method only works for the unlocked bootloader, or if you have an authorized Mi Account tied to the device.
Step-by-step:
- Download the firmware for your model (choose the Fastboot version).
- Unpack the archive in a folder without Cyrillic characters (for example, C:\MiFlash\rom).
- Install the MiFlash Tool.
- Connect the phone in Fastboot mode, in the utility press Refresh - the device must be determined.
- Select the firmware folder, select Clean All mode and press Flash.
It takes 5-10 minutes, and when it's done, it'll reboot to MIUI with factory settings.
| Problem. | Decision |
|---|---|
| MiFlash is a critical partition error. | Try another firmware version or Clean All and Lock mode. |
| Device not defined | Check the drivers, try another one. USB-port. |
| After the firmware requires a password Mi Account | Enter your phone-linked account details or contact Xiaomi for support. |
π‘
Flashing through MiFlash is Xiaomiβs only official way to recover the bricks, but it requires an unlocked bootloader or a tied Mi Account.
6. Hardware failures: when the problem is not in the software
If none of these methods worked, it could be a hardware malfunction, most often:
- π Faulty battery (no charge, phone turns off when cable is turned off).
- π Damaged charging connector or power controller.
- π οΈ Oxidation/break of contacts of the power or volume button.
- πΎ Damage to memory chip (eMMC/UFS).
How to diagnose:
- π Connect your phone to charge β if the indicator doesnβt burn, the problem is power.
- π Listen to the sounds when pressing the buttons - creaking or the absence of a click indicates a mechanical breakdown.
- π‘οΈ Check the temperature of the body - overheating indicates a short circuit.
Decisions:
- π§ Replacement of battery or connector (cost) ~1500β3000 β½).
- π¨ Repair/replace buttons (from 1000) β½).
- πΎ Memory chips soldering (expensive, ~5000β10000 β½, Sometimes the only way out).
β οΈ Attention: On Xiaomi models 13 Pro and Redmi. K60 Pro Failures in Fastboot may be related to damage UFS 3.1/4.0 β In this case, self-repair is not possible.
