Xiaomi Dash Recorders are some of the most popular devices for recording trips, but many users are faced with the problem of a forgotten password, especially for the 70mai Dash Cam, MiVUE and other lines where a password is required to access settings, view recordings through an application or web interface. Unlike smartphones, where password resets often boil down to recovery through a Mi Account, DVRs are increasingly difficult: there is no binding to the cloud, and standard combinations like 123456 or 000 000 do not always work.
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can restore access, from default default passwords to hardware resets through the service menu. Weβll focus on the Xiaomi 70mai Pro Plus+, MiVUE J199 and other current devices, and explain why some methods (such as resetting the RESET button) may not work. If you donβt want to lose recorded videos, read carefully β in some cases, wrong actions will lead to a complete memory cleanup.
Standard passwords for Xiaomi video recorders by default
Most Xiaomi DVRs come with factory passwords that are often unchangeable by users, which are combinations that vary by model and year of release, such as the 70mai line (including the 70mai Pro, 70mai Omni) standard password is 123456, and the MiVUE (such as the MiVUE 798) is 000000 or 654321.
Below is a table with the current factory passwords for popular models. If your model is not on the list, try combinations from neighboring speakers - sometimes the manufacturer uses the same settings for the entire line.
| Video recorder model | Standard password | Alternative passwords |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 70mai Dash Cam 1S | 123456 | 654321, 000000 |
| Xiaomi 70mai Pro Plus+ | 123456 | 70mai123, admin |
| Xiaomi MiVUE 798 | 000000 | 123456, mivue123 |
| Xiaomi 70mai Omni | admin | 12345678, 70mai |
| Xiaomi MiVUE J199 | 654321 | mivue, 111111 |
If neither combination fits, you may have changed your password earlier, in which case you can move to the next section, where we'll tell you how to reset your settings without losing data.
β οΈ Note: On some models (e.g, 70mai A800S) After 5 failed attempts to enter a password, the device is locked for 30 minutes.
How to Reset Password via RESET button (without Data Loss)
The easiest way to get back access to the DVR is by resetting hardware via the RESET button. However, there are nuances here: on some Xiaomi models, this method results in a complete memory cleanup, and on others, it only resets network settings and password. To minimize risks, follow the instructions:
- Turn off the DVR from power (remove the cable from the lighter or USB-port).
- Find the RESET button β itβs usually located on the side or bottom of the device (can be recessed into the case and require a needle or paper clip).
- Press the RESET button and, without letting it go, plug in the power. Hold the button for another 10-15 seconds until the indicator lights up or the beep sounds.
- Release the button and wait for the reboot. Some models (MiVUE 798) will require resetting Wi-Fi after resetting.
If the password hasnβt changed to the standard one after reset, try repeating the procedure by holding the RESET longer (up to 20 seconds). On dual-button devices (such as the 70mai Pro Plus+), you may need to pin both at the same time.
Shut down the power.
Find the RESET button (needle/clip)
Slam RESET and connect power
Hold 10 to 20 seconds.
Wait for the reboot.-->
β οΈ Attention: On Xiaomi models 70mai A500S MiVUE J199 discharge RESET deletes all video from the memory card. Before the procedure, remove the microSD and save the data to the computer.
Resetting password through the application (for models with Wi-Fi)
If your DVR supports Wi-Fi connectivity (e.g., 70mai Pro, MiVUE 798), you can try resetting your password through the official app, which only works if the device was already linked to your Mi Account or 70mai account before being blocked.
Instructions for the 70mai app (similar to Mi Home):
- Open the app and go to the Devices section.
- Find your DVR in the list and tap it.
- From the device menu, select Settings β Password Reset (or Forgot Password?).
- Follow the instructions on the screen, and you may need to enter a confirmation code sent to your email or phone linked to your account.
If the device doesnβt appear in the app, try:
- π Reboot the DVR and smartphone.
- πΆ Connect to a registrar's Wi-Fi network (commonly called 70mai_XXXX or MiVUE_XXXX).
- π Enter a standard password for connecting to the network (usually 12345678 or listed on the device sticker).
If the app doesn't work, it's just a hardware reset or support call, and in the next section, we'll show you how to get around the password through the service menu, which works even without being linked to an account.
Service menu and hidden commands for password reset
Some Xiaomi models (e.g., the 70mai A800S, MiVUE 798) have a hidden service menu through which you can reset your password without losing data, accessed through a combination of buttons or special commands. Importantly, this method requires caution - incorrect actions can lead to a firmware failure.
Ways to enter the service menu:
- π§ For 70mai Pro/Pro Plus+: Press the Power buttons. + Wi-Fi on 10 A menu with the words Factory Mode appears.
- π§ For MiVUE 798/J199: Connect the device to the computer by USB, then press it. RESET Power at the same time.
- π§ Universal method: Enter the combination in the password field admin1234 β On some models, this opens up access to settings.
In the service menu, find Reset Password or Restore Defaults. If you don't have one, try:
- Select Format SD (this wonβt delete the video, it will only reset the settings).
- Reboot the device via Reboot System.
What to do if the menu is in Chinese?
β οΈ Attention: On Xiaomi models 70mai Omni is blocked after 3 failed attempts. If you are not sure of the actions, it is better to contact the service center.
What to do if nothing helps: radical methods
If standard methods fail, radical measures remainβa complete factory reset or flashingβthat are guaranteed to remove the password, but also erase all data from the memory card and reset individual settings (video resolution, G-sensor sensitivity, etc.).
Method 1: Hard reset via button combination
For the 70mai Dash Cam and MiVUE models:
- Remove the memory card (if you want to save the video).
- Press the Power + RESET buttons (or Power + Wi-Fi for some models).
- Without releasing the buttons, connect the power and hold for another 15-20 seconds until the red indicator flashes.
- Release the buttons β the device will restart and return to the factory settings.
Method 2: Flashing through a computer
This is a good way to use it for advanced users, and you'll need to:
- π» Windows computer.
- π Cable USB (usually micro-USB or Type-C).
- π Firmware for your model (you can download on the official Xiaomi website or forums like this) 4PDA).
- π Firmware software (e.g. DashCam Tool or DashCam Tool) 70mai Updater).
Instructions:
- Connect the DVR to your computer in Mass Storage mode (like a flash drive).
- Run the firmware program and select the downloaded file with the.bin or.fw extension.
- Follow the instructions of the program. Do not turn off the device during firmware - this can cause breakage!
π‘
Before flashing, check the version of the current software in the DVR settings (section About or System Information). Install only the firmware that is designed for your model and hardware revision!
How to avoid password problems in the future
In order not to face a DVR lock, follow the simple rules:
- π Write down your password in a secure location (for example, in a password manager or on paper in a glove box).
- π± Link the device to your Mi Account or 70mai β This will make it easier to restore access.
- π Regularly update the firmware β in new versions, bugs with a lock are often fixed.
- π Back up your settings through the app (if the feature is supported).
If you often forget passwords, install an application to store credentials (like KeePass or Bitwarden) on your smartphone and save data from the DVR, and you can also use the Quick Connection feature in the 70mai application, which allows you to do without entering a password when connecting over Wi-Fi.
For voice-enabled models (such as the 70mai Omni), you can set a command to unlock, such as, "Hey Mi, unlock the recorder." This feature is available in voice settings.

Resetting a password via RESET or service menu is the safest way, but it doesnβt always work on new models. If the device is linked to a Xiaomi account, it wonβt take more than 5 minutes to recover via the app.
