Lost or broken remote from Xiaomi Mi TV, and urgently need to change the settings? the situation is familiar to many: the TV works, but without the remote, access to the menu seems impossible. In fact, there are at least 5 proven ways to enter the settings of Xiaomi TV without the original remote — from the standard buttons on the case to advanced methods through ADB or smartphone.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods with step-by-step instructions, nuances for different models (Mi TV 4A/4S/4X/5/5 Pro, Redmi Smart TV) and cautions to avoid errors.
Important: The methods vary depending on the firmware version (MIUI TV or Google TV) and year of release. If your TV is released before 2019, some methods may not work, for such cases we have prepared separate recommendations.
1. Use of buttons on the TV body
The most obvious, but often underestimated, way to control through physical buttons on the back or side panel of Xiaomi TV, their location and functionality depend on the model:
- 📺 Mi TV 4A/4S (2018–2020): Power buttons, Volume +/–, Input (can work as if it were) OK)
- 🖥️ Mi TV 5/5 Pro (2020–2023): Touchbar with Power, Volume and Google Assistant (holding calls menu)
- 🔴 Redmi Smart TV (All models: classic Power, Volume, Menu buttons (direct access to settings)
To open the settings:
- Turn on the TV with the Power button.
- On models with the Menu button (e.g. Redmi TV), press it once and the main menu will open where you can select Settings.
- On models without Menu (e.g. Mi) TV 5): Hold the Volume button for 5-7 seconds until the Quick Settings panel appears. ⚙️ (Settings) and confirm by pressing Input or OK (if).
Make sure the TV is connected to the network.

Limitations of the method:
- ❌ On some models (e.g., Mi). TV Q1) The buttons are blocked after you connect to your Mi Account.
- ❌ No way to enter text (for example, to connect to Wi-Fi).
- ❌ Slow navigation – it takes a lot of clicks to navigate between menu items.
⚠️ Attention: On TVs with Google TV (Like Mi. TV Q2 2023) Volume buttons do not open the settings menu. Instead, use Google Assistant button retention (if any) or methods from the following sections.
2.Manage via Mi Remote (Mi TV Remote)
The official Mi Remote app (formerly Mi TV Remote) allows you to completely replace the physical remote, it works on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth (depending on the TV model) and supports all functions, including access to settings.
How to connect:
- Download the Mi Remote app from Google Play or the App Store.
- Make sure that your TV and smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Launch the app and select Add Device → TV → Xiaomi.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. If the TV is not automatically located, enter it. IP-address manually (you can find out through the router or on the TV screen in the Network section, if you have access).
Advantages of the method:
- ✅ Full access to all settings, including Developer Mode and Factory Reset.
- ✅ Ability to enter text through the on-screen keyboard of the smartphone.
- ✅ It works even if the TV is not connected to the Internet (local network is enough).

3. Connection USB-keyboard
Few people know, but the Xiaomi TV based on Android TV supports USB keyboard and mouse connection via USB-A or USB-C port (with an adapter).
How to connect:
- Insert a keyboard or mouse into the TV's USB port. If there are no ports (for example, on the Mi TV Stick), use a powered USB-hub.
- Wait for the TV to detect the device (it may take 10 to 30 seconds).
- Use it: 🖱️ Mouse: cursor will appear on the screen, click on the icon ⚙️ top-right. ⌨️ Keyboard: Press Win (or Menu), then select Settings with arrows.
Compatible devices:
- ✅ Anybody. USB-keyboards (wired/wireless with USB-receiver).
- ✅ Mice with USB-connector (including gamepad in mouse mode).
- ❌ Bluetooth keyboards/mouse without USB-Adapter (not all Xiaomi models) TV Bluetooth support HID).

If the keyboard is not working, try connecting it through OTG-cable (even if the USB-Type C port) on some models (Mi) TV 4X) It solves the recognition problem.
Limitations:
- On TVs with MIUI TV (not Google TV), the mouse may not display the cursor – use the keyboard.
- Some features (such as voice search) may not be available.
4. Access via ADB (for advanced users)
If previous methods didn’t work, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a tool for debugging Android devices, which allows you to send commands directly to the TV system, including opening settings.
Requirements:
- 💻 Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux.
- 🔌 Cable USB-A → USB-A (or USB-C → USB-A new-model).
- 📥 Established ADB Tools.
- ⚙️ The TV should be enabled Developer Mode and Debugging by USB.
If the Developer Mode is disabled, first activate it through the buttons on the case:
- Go to the About TV menu (via Volume/Menu buttons).
- Find the build number and click on it 7 times in a row (use the OK or Input button).
- Return to the main menu and the Developer Item will appear.
- Activate Debugging on USB.
Now connect the TV to your computer and execute the commands:

ADB is the only way to access settings if the TV is locked with a password or Mi Account and other methods don’t work.
⚠️ Attention: On TVs with Google TV (Like Mi. TV Q2) The way to setup is different. Use the command: adb shell am start. -n com.google.android.tv.settings/.MainSettings If ADB Can’t see the device, check the drivers, or try connecting over Wi-Fi (required) IP-TV address).
5. Resetting to factory settings (if nothing helps)
If you need to access settings to reset your TV (for example, when you freeze or lock), you can do a hard reset without the remote control.
Method 1: Buttons on the body (for most models)
- Turn off the TV with the Power button.
