Fastboot mode on Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro is a special state of the device designed to firmware, unlock the bootloader or restore the system through the PC. However, sometimes the smartphone βhangsβ in this mode after a failed update, resetting settings or experimenting with custom firmware. If your Redmi Note 9 Pro screen is FASTBOOT with the image of a hare in a hat-eared, and a conventional reboot does not help β do not panic. In 90% of cases, the problem can be solved without going to the service center.
In this article, we will discuss 5 working ways to exit Fastboot, including methods with and without a PC, and explain why a smartphone can freeze in this mode. Particular attention will be paid to the unique feature of the Redmi Note 9 Pro (model joyeuse): its bootloader is blocked after unauthorized manipulations, which requires additional actions to restore. All instructions are tested on current versions of MIUI (including MIUI 14) and are suitable for modifications of the Redmi Note 9 Pro, Note 9S, and 9 Pro Max.
Why is the Redmi Note 9 Pro stuck in the Fastboot?
Before we get to the problem, it's important to understand the cause of the problem, and Fastboot activates automatically in several cases:
- π Interrupted update MIUI β if the firmware was installed incorrectly (for example, due to a discharged battery or a failure of the Internet connection).
- π Unlock bootloader β after using the Mi Unlock Tool utility, the device can freeze if the process was interrupted.
- β‘ Failed factory reset β especially through Recovery Mode if the file system is corrupted.
- π οΈ Installation of custom recaveri (TWRP) β Incorrect firmware can lead to a load cycle in Fastboot.
- π Critical battery discharge β if the charge level has dropped below 5% during system operations.
There's another specific reason on the Redmi Note 9 Pro: the activation of the Anti-Rollback mechanism. MIUI, The smartphone will block the bootloader and will constantly go to Fastboot. EDL-mode (emergency loading).
β οΈ Warning: If you used unofficial firmware or tools like OrangeFox or Magisk before you freeze, standard exit methods from Fastboot may not work, in which case you will have to restore the device through the Mi Flash Tool with complete data cleaning.
Method 1: Forced reboot (without PC)
The simplest method, which works in 60% of cases, is suitable if the smartphone is getting stuck in the Fastboot due to a temporary failure, not a hardware problem.
- Hold the power button for 20-30 seconds until the screen goes out.
- Once the device is turned off, immediately press the combination: Power button + Volume up Hold 10-15 seconds until the MI logo appears.
- If your smartphone is loaded in Recovery Mode, select Reboot β Reboot to System.
If you do this, then you go back to Fastboot again, and then you go to the next way, which means that the problem is deeper, maybe the firmware is damaged or the bootloader is blocked.
Try another USB cable (original from Xiaomi)
Check the battery (connect to charging for 10-15 minutes)
Use a different USB port on your PC (preferably USB 2.0)
Disable the antivirus on your computer (it can block drivers)
-->
Method 2: Exit via Mi Flash Tool (from PC)
If the forced reboot fails, you will need to connect to a computer, which is suitable for cases where:
- π± Smartphone cyclically reboots in Fastboot.
- π Firmware is damaged (for example, after a failed air update).
- π The bootloader is locked after unlocking.
The work will require:
- Windows 7/10/11 computer (macOS/Linux may have driver problems).
- Original USB Type-C cable (low-quality cables are often not recognized in Fastboot).
- The Mi Flash Tool (last version)
- The firmware for your model (Redmi Note 9 Pro β Joyeuse encoding).
Step-by-step:
- Download and install the Mi Flash Tool. Select the Install Driver option during installation.
- Unpack the firmware (file with.tgz extension) in a folder without Cyrillic characters.
- Connect the smartphone off to the PC, holding Volume Down + Power to log into the Fastboot.
- In the Mi Flash Tool, click Select and specify the path to the firmware folder.
- Select Clean All (complete clean) or Save User Data (less secure).
- Press Flash and wait until it is completed (5-10 minutes).
| Firmware mode | Data retention | Time of the process | When to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clean All | β No. | 5-7 minutes | Critical failures, if other methods do not help |
| Save User Data | β Yes. | 7-10 minutes | If you need to save photos, contacts and applications |
| Clean All and Lock | β No. | 5-8 minutes | After unlocking the bootloader to re-lock it |
β οΈ Note: If the Mi Flash Tool gives an error Critical Partition Flashing Is Forbidden, it means that the device has activated Anti-Rollback. EDL-mode (see Method 4).
Method 3: ADB and Fastboot commands (for power users)
If you have experience with ADB and Fastboot, you can try to exit mode using the command line.
- π₯οΈ On the PC installed drivers Xiaomi and ADB.
- πΆ Device is defined in Device Manager as Android Bootloader Interface.
Instructions:
- Download and unpack Platform Tools (from Google).
- Connect your smartphone in Fastboot mode to your PC.
- Open the command line in the platform-tools folder and type: fastboot devices If the device shows up (the serial number appears), continue. If not, check the driver.
- Run the reboot command: fastboot reboot If it didn't work, try: fastboot continue or (for unlocked bootloader): fastboot oem unlock-go
If the device returns to Fastboot after fastboot reboot, then the problem is the firmware, in which case only complete flashing (see Method 2) will help.
π‘
If the fastboot device command doesnβt show your device, try connecting via another device. USB-port or disable driver signatures in Windows (click Win) + X β Parameters β Update and security β Recovery β Reboot now. β Diagnostics β Additional parameters β Loading parameters β Reboot. β F7).
Method 4: Firmware through EDL-mode (emergency method)
EDL-The Emergency Download Mode is a hidden boot mode that allows you to flash the device even when the bootloader is damaged:
- π¨ The smartphone does not respond to buttons and is not detected in Fastboot.
- π bootloader blocked due to Anti-Rollback.
- π The device does not turn on (black screen, but there is a reaction to charging).
How to log into EDL:
- Turn off your smartphone (if itβs in Fastboot, hold Power + Volume up 20 seconds).
- Connect the cable to your PC, but not to your smartphone.
- Press on the switched-off device Volume up + Volume down and, without letting go, connect the cable to the phone.
- If the screen is black, but the device appeared in Device Manager Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 β you are in EDL.
For firmware in EDL you will need:
- π₯οΈ Mi Flash Tool (same as in Method 2).
- π Firmware in.tgz format for your model (required to be marked) EDL).
- π Authorized Xiaomi account (some firmware requires unlocking).
β οΈ Attention: Firmware through EDL Resets all data on the device, including IMEI and DRM-After the procedure, you may need to recover. IMEI through QCN-file (if it was saved in advance).
What to do if EDL-no-determined?
Method 5: Contact Xiaomi Service Center
If none of these methods worked, the last option is to contact the official Xiaomi service.
- π§ Hardware damage (for example, a malfunction of the motherboard or USB-port).
- π Locking the bootloader due to failed unlock or firmware.
- π΅ Loss. IMEI post-flip EDL.
The cost of repairs in the official Xiaomi service (as of 2026):
| Type of malfunction | Cost (β½) | Duration of repairs |
|---|---|---|
| Firmware recovery | 1 500 β 2 500 | 1-2 days |
| Unlocking the loader | 2 000 β 3 500 | 2-3 days |
| Rebuilding IMEI | 1 000 β 2 000 | 1 day |
| Repairs USB-port | 2 500 β 4 000 | 3-5 days |
Before the service visit:
- π Keep a check or warranty card (if the device is warranty).
- π Make a backup copy of the data (if the smartphone is at least somehow turned on).
- π± Check by phone if they work with your model (Redmi Note 9 Pro joyeuse).
π‘
If your device is warranty, DO NOT try to sew it yourself through the EDL or Mi Flash Tool. This will void the warranty!
How to avoid hanging out in Fastboot in the future?
