Mi Account passwords are one of the most common problems among Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphone owners, and itβs complicated by the fact that without access to the profile, you canβt reset, update your firmware, or even sell your device. The manufacturer has linked most of the features to an account binding, so leaving without a password requires a special approach.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods, from official methods through support to technical bypasses using Fastboot and Mi Unlock Tool. It is important to understand that some methods can lead to data loss or locking the device, so before you start, read the risks and prepare backups.
If you are not sure about your actions, you should contact Xiaomi service center, which is guaranteed to keep the phone working, but for experienced users, we have prepared detailed instructions based on the latest security policy updates MIUI.
Why canβt you just log out of your Mi Account without a password?
Xiaomi's security system is built on the principle of "hard-link" device to the account, which means that even if you go to the settings and try to click "Sign Out", the system will require you to enter a password, this measure protects against data theft, but creates problems for legitimate owners who have forgotten credentials.
The main reasons for blocking:
- π Protection against theft: without a password, an attacker will not be able to untie the device from the original account.
- π± Link to services: cloud storage, synchronization of contacts and notes work only through Mi-account.
- π Locking after reset: With Hard Reset, the phone may require you to enter the account details that were previously linked (FRP-lockdown).
In addition, since 2021, Xiaomi has tightened its security policy: now, proof of ownership (checks, a box with IMEI) is required to unlock through the Mi Unlock Tool.
Method 1: Recover password through the official Mi website
The easiest and most legal method is to restore access to your account, and if you have an email or phone number attached to your Mi Account, the chances of success are high.
Step-by-step:
- Go to the recovery page: account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword.
- Enter the email or phone attached to your account.
- Select the confirmation method: π§ Email: the code will come to the mail (check the Spam folder"). π± SMS: phone-code.
Create a new password and confirm the changes.
If you donβt remember the attached email/phone, try to remember:
- π Old letters with the subject line "Xiaomi" or "Mi Account".
- π± Phone numbers used in registration.
- πΎ Logins from other services (sometimes using one email for everything).

If you have access to another Xiaomi device with the same account, check the linked email in the settings: Settings β Mi Account β Personal information.
Method 2: Calling for Xiaomi Support (for confirmed owners)
If password recovery has not worked, you can contact official Xiaomi support, which is suitable if you are the legitimate owner of the device and can confirm the purchase.
What will be required:
- π Check or invoice with the date of purchase and IMEI device.
- π¦ Original box (it is indicated on it) IMEI).
- π Passport (for proof of identity).
How to apply:
- Go to the support website: mi.com/global/support.
- Select the Mi Account section β Forgot Password.
- Fill out the form by specifying: IMEI device (you can find out via *#06#), Serial number (on the box or in the About phone settings), Purchase data (date, store).
Attach scans of documents and submit the application.
The review period is 3 to 7 days, and if the data is correct, support will reset the account's link to the device.
What to do if you bought without a check?
Method 3: Unlocking through Mi Unlock Tool (for advanced users)
Mi Unlock Tool is the official tool from Xiaomi for unlocking the bootloader, and it can be used to reset the account, but with restrictions:
- β It works on most models. Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO (except for the new HyperOS).
- β Not suitable for devices with lock after theft (they have a different level of protection).
- β οΈ Requires unlocking the bootloader, which resets all data.
Step-by-step:
- Download the Mi Unlock Tool from the official website: en.miui.com/unlock.
- Install ADB and Fastboot drivers (instructions on Xiaomi website).
- Turn off the phone and press Volume Down + Power to log into the Fastboot.
- Connect the device to your PC and start the Mi Unlock Tool.
- Sign in to your Mi Account (if requested) or follow the instructions on the screen.
- Press Unlock and wait until it is completed (can take up to 72 hours due to Xiaomiβs validation).
Important: Xiaomi introduced an additional check starting in 2023, which means that unlocking the device may require linking the device to your account before locking it.
Download the latest version of Mi Unlock Tool| Install ADB/Fastboot Drivers| Charge your phone at least 60% | Create a backup (will be deleted) | Make sure the device is not blacklisted by Xiaomi-->
Method 4: Fastboot Reset (without data loss β myth or reality?)
There are often instructions on the web to bypass Mi accounts through Fastboot commands without resetting data, a dangerous myth that either doesnβt work on new firmware or leads to:
- π΄ Total loss of data.
- π΄ Blocking IMEI (The phone will be a brick").
- π΄ Loss of warranty.
However, if you are prepared for the risks, you can try a legal reset via Fastboot (the data will be deleted):
- Install ADB Tools on your PC.
- Connect your phone in Fastboot mode.
- Enter the command to reset: fastboot erase userdata fastboot erase frp fastboot reboot
This method will remove FRP-lock (protection after reset), but does not guarantee unlocking of the Mi Account on all models. for example, on Redmi Note 10 Pro and later, additional authorization may be required.
π‘
Fastboot commands only work on an unlocked bootloader. If Bootloader is locked, you first need to use the Mi Unlock Tool.
Method 5: Bypassing EDL and TestPoint modes (extreme case)
EDL (Emergency Download Mode) and TestPoint are service methods that engineers use to restore the bricks, and they allow you to flash the device around all the locks, but:
- β οΈ Requires soldering work (for TestPoint).
- β οΈ Not all models work (for example, Xiaomi 13 and newer models). EDL blocked).
- β οΈ This can lead to permanent blocking in case of an error.
How it works:
- For EDL: Connect your phone to your PC using a special cable and send a command via MiFlash.
- For TestPoint: Disassemble the device, close the contacts on the board and connect to the PC.
- Sweat the device through MiFlash with a choice of clean firmware.
These methods are not recommended for beginners. If you are not sure, it is better to contact the service center.
| Method | Difficulty | Loss of data | It works on new models. | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Password recovery | β | β No. | β Yes. | Low. |
| Appeal of support | ββ | β No. | β Yes. | Medium (requires documents) |
| Mi Unlock Tool | βββ | β Yes. | β οΈ Partially. | High (account lock) |
| Fastboot teams | ββββ | β Yes. | β No (on new firmware) | Very high. |
| EDL/TestPoint | βββββ | β Yes. | β No. | Critical (brick risk) |
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods fail, you have a few options:
- π§ Contact the service center: official Xiaomi centers can help for a fee (from 1,500 to 5 000 rubles depending on the model).
- π± Use your phone without logging out: If the basic functions work, you can leave everything as it is.
- π° Sell your device with a linked account: Indicate in the ad that the phone is tied to your Mi Account (this will lower the price, but there will be buyers).
β οΈ Warning: Donβt trust the βmastersβ who promise to unlock your account in 5 minutes via TeamViewer or remotely.
If the phone is locked after reset (FRP-lock), try to enter any password 5 times in a row - sometimes the button Forgot the password? appears, which redirects to the recovery site.
