Why the smartphone does not turn on: the main reasons
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro may not respond to the power button for several reasons: Most often, the problem is with the battery completely draining when the device did not have time to save enough power to start, in which case, even after connecting to charge, the screen can remain black for 10 to 30 minutes, which is normal, since the power controller first restores the minimum charge to start the system.
Another common cause is a software failure after a MIUI update or a faulty shutdown. If a smartphone hovers on the Redmi logo or reboots cyclically, it indicates damage to system files. Less commonly, a hardware malfunction is caused by a battery plume that has gone out, a damaged power button or a motherboard failure, in the latter case, a service center is necessary.
Before you panic, check the obvious:
- π Is the cable connected to a serviceable outlet or USB-port?
- π Have you tried another charger (preferably original)? 18W+)?
- π Is there enough time to charge (minimum 20-30 minutes)?
Method 1: Standard activation after discharge
If the battery is down to 0%, the start-up algorithm is different from the usual turn-on: connect your smartphone to the original charger (or Quick Charge 3.0 compatible) and wait:
- β³ First 5-10 minutes: Charging indicator (red/orange LED) may not burn β itβs not critical.
- β‘ After 15-20 minutes: Try holding the power button for 10-15 seconds (until vibration).
- π± After 30 minutes: If the screen is unresponsive, turn off the cable, wait 1 minute and reconnect.
Important: Do not use wireless charging or USB-The ports of the computer at this point are not enough to "wake up" a deeply drained battery.
Use the original 18W+| Wait 30 minutes before turning on | Try holding the power button 15+ seconds | Check the cable for damage | Turn off the cable and reconnect in a minute-->
β οΈ Warning: If after an hour of charging the smartphone does not show signs of life (no indicator, vibration, sounds), the problem may be in the power controller or battery.
Method 2: Forced Reset (Hard Reset)
When the Redmi Note 9 Pro is stuck on the MI logo, reboots cyclically or doesn't respond to pressing, hardware reset will help. This method doesn't delete data, it just restarts the system forcibly.
- Hold the power button and increase the volume at the same time.
- After 8-12 seconds, the device vibrates β release the buttons.
- Wait 1-2 minutes: the smartphone should boot in normal mode.
If the combination does not work, try an alternative:
1. Hold the power button for 30 seconds (even if the screen is unresponsive).
2. Let go, wait 10 seconds.
3. Press the power button once - sometimes this works after "freezing" the system. What if the smartphone vibrates but the screen is black?
| Symptoms. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Vibration's on, screen black. | Display plume damaged | Diagnostics in the service |
| The MI logo burns forever. | Firmware failure | Entering Fastboot and Fastboot |
| No reaction to charging | Failed battery/controller | Battery replacement |
| Cyclical reboot | Conflict of applications | Reset to factory settings |
Method 3: Enter Recovery Mode for Diagnostics
If standard methods do not help, run the smartphone in recovery mode (Recovery Mode), which will check the integrity of the system or reset settings.
- Turn off the smartphone (if it is on, hold the power button until it is turned off).
- Press the power button and increase the volume at the same time.
- Release the buttons when the MI logo and menu appear in English.
In the Recovery menu, use volume buttons for navigation and power buttons for selection.
- π Reboot - a normal reboot.
- π Wipe Data β Complete reset (deletes all data!).
- π§ Connect with MiAssistant β Connecting to a PC for Recovery.
β οΈ Warning: Wipe Data removes all user data, including photos, messages and apps. Use it only if other methods didn't work and you have a backup. Once reset, the smartphone will return to factory settings MIUI The version that was established.
π‘
If you don't have touch control on the Recovery menu and the volume buttons don't work, plug your smartphone into charging, and sometimes it wakes up the interface.
Method 4: Connect to PC and firmware via Fastboot
When the smartphone does not load even in Recovery, there is a firmware option through Fastboot mode. This will require a computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and the Mi Flash Tool program.
- Download the official firmware for the Redmi Note 9 Pro (select the Fastboot version).
- Unpack the archive into a folder without Cyrillic characters (e.g., C:\MIUI\fastboot).
- Turn off the smartphone, then press the power button + volume reduction until the hare appears in the hat-earch (Fastboot logo).
- Connect your smartphone to your PC through USB-cable.
- Launch the Mi Flash Tool, select the firmware folder and press Flash.
Critical: Never turn off the cable while you are firmware, which can lead to a "bricking" of the device (complete loss of performance), the process takes 5-10 minutes.
If the Mi Flash Tool does not recognize the device:
- π₯οΈ Install Qualcomm drivers HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
- π Try another one. USB-port (preferably) USB 2.0 on the back of the PC).
- π Restart your computer and reconnect.
π‘
Fastboot firmware is an extreme method that should only be used if you canβt boot into Recovery, and it overwrites all system partitions to fix software failures.
Method 5: Checking for hardware faults
If none of the software methods worked, the problem is probably hardware.
- Charging test: π Connect a knowingly serviceable power supply (for example, from another smartphone). π Check if the area is warming near the connector USB-C β If so, a short circuit is possible.
- Power button test: π¨ Tap the on button carefully (sometimes contacts are oxidized). π Light a flashlight into the slot around the button β if debris is visible, it can block the pressing.
Display test
- πΊ Connect your smartphone to an external monitor through USB-C β HDMI adapter.
- π Call your smartphone from another device β if you hear the call sound, the problem is in the screen.
Typical hardware breakdowns of the Redmi Note 9 Pro:
- π Bloated battery (sees from the raised back cover).
- π Oxidation of charging connector contacts (often after moisture is ingested).
- π± Detachment of the display plume or touchpad.
β οΈ Warning: If you find a bloated battery (lid lifted, body deformed), do not try to turn on the smartphone - it is dangerous! The battery may ignite. Immediately take the device to a service center to replace it.
What do you do if nothing helps?
When all methods are exhausted and the Redmi Note 9 Pro is still not turned on, there are two options left:
- Contact the service center: π οΈ Xiaomi official centers provide a warranty for repairs (if the device is warranty). π° The cost of diagnosis is usually free, repairs - from 1,500 to 5,000 rubles depending on the breakdown.
Self-repair
- π§ Replacement of the battery will cost 800-1 500 rubles (independently).
- π± Replacement of the display β 2,500-4000 rubles (depending on the quality of the matrix).
Before the service visit:
- π Write it down. IMEI devices (in a box or under the battery).
- π Make sure you have your Mi Account binding disabled (if your smartphone has been blocked).
- πΈ Take a photo of the series and model on the sticker under the lid (it will help to avoid replacement of components).

If the smartphone was purchased on AliExpress or in an unofficial store, check if it is not βgrayβ (without an official warranty in Russia), in which case repairs in authorized Xiaomi centers can cost more.
