Have you bought a used Xiaomi, forgotten the data from Mi Account, or just want to check which email is tied to the phone? Unlike iPhone or Samsung, where the mail is displayed in an Apple ID or Google profile, Xiaomi has nuances. The brand's smartphones use its own MIUI ecosystem, where the email can be hidden in non-obvious menu sections or even absent from the interface - especially if the device was dropped or bought from hand.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods, from standard (via account settings) to little-known (via an engineering menu or file system). Please note: some methods require unlocking the bootloader or root rights, which can lead to loss of warranty or locking the device if you do not act correctly. If the phone is locked on the Mi Account (requires username / password after reset), some methods will not be available β we will warn you about this separately.
1. Check email through Mi Account settings
The easiest and safest way to do this is to look at your email in the Xiaomi account section, which works if:
- π± Phone is not locked on Mi Account (no login/password request when enabled).
- π You have signed in to your account (or the previous owner did not log out).
- π§ Email was not hidden in the privacy settings.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings. β Xiaomi Account (or Mi Account in older versions) MIUI).
- Slip on the profile avatar or the username line.
- The window that opens will display an email (e.g. user@example.com) or a phone number associated with your account.
Check your internet connection (Wi-Fi/mobile data)
Update the βMi Accountβ app on Google Play
Restart your phone and try again.
Try to log in again (go out and log in again)-->
If you only see a phone number instead of an email, it means that the account was registered via SMS, in which case the mail may be absent or hidden, and you will need to see it:
β οΈ Note: If the phone was bought from hand and tied to someone else's Mi Account, trying to change an email or phone number can lead to locking the device through the Find Device function!
2. view email through the application "Security" (Security)
MIUI has a built-in Security (Shield Icon) app that duplicates some of the features of Mi Account, including the display of linked mail, which works even if the basic account settings are hidden.
How to find email:
- Run the Security app (if it is not on the home screen, search through a system search).
- Go to Mi Account or Xiaomi Account.
- At the top of the screen, you'll see an email or a phone, and if the data is hidden, tap the profile icon.
In some versions of MIUI (e.g. MIUI 14 on Redmi Note 12), email can be replaced with an account ID, a unique numeric code (e.g., 1234567890) that is not mail, but can be restored through the official Xiaomi website.

3. Search for email in system files (for advanced users)
If standard methods don't work, you can try to find email in system files, which requires access to root rights or use ADB (debugging over USB). Without technical skills, it's better to skip this section - wrong actions can damage data.
Where to look:
- π File. /data/system/users/0.xml β contains user data, including email (see the line) mi_account).
- π folder /data/data/com.xiaomi.account β This is where the Mi Account cached data is stored.
- π File. /data/property/persist.sys.miui.rom.build.prop β occasionally ID device associated with the account.
To view the files:
- Connect your phone to your PC and enable USB Debugging (Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version β Tap 7 times, then go back to Additional β For Developers).
- Use it. ADB-a file manager with root access (e.g., Root Explorer):
adb shell
su
cat /data/system/users/0.xml | grep "mi_account"β οΈ Note: Viewing system files without root is only possible on an unlocked bootloader. On new Xiaomi models (released after 2021), unlocking requires waiting 7 days after linking the account to the device.
What to do if the files are encrypted?
4.Restore email through the official Xiaomi website
If the phone is locked on Mi Account (after reset, asks for a login / password), but you do not know the linked mail, you can try to restore access through the website.
- Go to the recovery page: account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword.
- Enter a phone number that may have been linked to your account (even if it doesnβt show up on your phone).
- If the number is confirmed, the system will show a disguised email (for example, u*@gmail.com).
- Click Forgot email? β the site will offer recovery options (SMS, backup mail).
If you donβt have access to either the number or the mail, you can only ask Xiaomi to support you with proof of ownership of the device (check, box, IMEI).The process can take up to 30 days, and success is not guaranteed β especially if the phone was bought by hand.
1. Use another browser (Chrome, Firefox).
2. Disable VPN/proxy.
3. Clear the browser cache or open the page in incognito mode.-->
5. Check email through the engineering menu (##)
On some Xiaomi models (especially older ones like the Redmi 4X or Mi A1), email can be seen through the engineering menu, which is not universal and only works on firmware up to MIUI 11.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app and enter the code:
##4636##- In the menu that opens, select Phone Information or Battery Information.
- Scroll down β if email is linked, it can show up in the Account or Mi Cloud section.
On newer models (Redmi Note 10, POCO X5 and later), this method does not work β the engineering menu has been simplified, and the account data is not displayed there.
##64663##It opens the MIUI Version menu, which sometimes specifies the device ID associated with the Mi Account.
6. Use of third-party applications (with caution!)
There are apps on Google Play that promise to show email tied to Mi Account (such as Mi Account Info or Xiaomi Tool).
- π« Require root access (which voids the warranty).
- π΅οΈββοΈ We may collect your data (including: IMEI and serial number).
- πΈ Paid or subscription (free versions show incomplete information).
If you do decide to use such software, follow the rules:
- Download only from the official store (Google Play or APKMirror).
- Check reviews and ratings (avoid apps with a score below 4.0).
- Do not enter Mi Account passwords into third-party programs.
π‘
No app will be able to show email if the phone is locked on Mi Account after a reset, in which case only official recovery via Xiaomiβs website or support call will help.
7. Alternative methods (for locked phones)
If the phone is locked on Mi Account and requires login/password input when turned on, the standard methods will not work.
| Method | What's needed | Chance of success | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Appeal for Xiaomi support | Check, box, IMEI, passport | 50-70% | Long wait (up to 1 month) |
| Passage EDL-regime | EDL cable, software (Mi Flash), firmware | 80-90% | The risk of a brick (complete lock) |
| Buying an unlock code | IMEI, money (from 500 rubles) | 90% | Fraud (check the seller) |
| Testpoint reset | Sawtting iron, soldering skills | 95% | Damage to payment in case of negligence |
The most reliable way is to support the evidence of purchase.
- Take a picture of the box, check and IMEI (is on a sticker under the battery or in a tray SIM-map).
- Please contact the support chat: mi.com/support.
- Please indicate that the phone is purchased from hands and is blocked on someone elseβs account.
β οΈ Warning: Buying unlock codes from third-party sites (e.g., miunlock.com) is fraught with fraud. Often, after payment, a non-working code or a file with a virus comes in. If you decide to do this, use guaranteed sites (e.g., eBay with buyer protection).
