Owners of Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco or Black Shark smartphones often face a problem: a second (or even third) Google account hangs on the device, which interferes with synchronization, takes up space in memory or is simply not needed. Delete it through the standard menu is not always possible β the system can give errors such as βDeletion is impossible, since this is the main accountβ or require a password from the previous owner (if the phone is purchased used). FRP-Factory Reset Protection and Operations through ADB.
The feature of MIUI (even in the latest versions of MIUI 14/15) is that the system can βforgetβ a priority account after a reset or update, which causes users to face duplicate Google profiles without the possibility of deleting them through the GUI. If you bought a phone from your hands and the previous owner did not withdraw the device from your account, you will need additional manipulations β we will describe them too.
Why canβt you just delete your Google account through your settings?
Xiaomi smartphones (as well as other Android devices) have security restrictions from Google:
- π FRP-Factory Reset Protection β if an account has been added as a primary account, the system requires you to enter a password after resetting the settings.
- π± Reference to MI-account β on some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro or Redmi Note 12) Google account may be associated with Mi Account, which makes it difficult to delete.
- π Synchronization of services β if the account is used for Google Play, Gmail or Google Photos, the system blocks its deletion βto save data".
Also, MIUI has a bug: once you update or reset your settings, you sometimes duplicate accounts, one becomes "main" and the other hangs as "guest" but you can't delete it, because of a bug in Google Play Services.
β οΈ Note: If you bought a Xiaomi phone from hand and the previous owner did not delete your Google account, standard deletion through settings will not work. FRP (described in section 4) or communication with the seller to enter the password.
Method 1: Delete via the Accounts menu (if no FRP)
This is the easiest method, but it only works if:
- π± Your phone is new or you know the password of all Google accounts on it.
- π The device is offline. FRP-Blocking (or youβve already done it).
- π² The account is not a βmainβ account for Google Play services.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings. β Accounts and sync (on some Poco models, the path may be Settings) β PapaSSWORD & SECURITY β Accounts).
- Select Google and a list of all associated accounts will open.
- Tapping on an unnecessary account β Delete your account (or delete your account in new versions) MIUI).
- Confirm the action with a password / pattern lock from the phone.
Check if your account is used on Google Play|Turn off sync for this account|Try to make it βnot basicβ in Googleβs settings|Restart your phone and try again.-->
If the Delete account button is gray or missing, then the account is FRP protected or system protected.
Method 2: Reset to factory settings (with nuances for Xiaomi)
Hard Reset removes all accounts, but Xiaomi has some important features:
- π After reset, the phone will require you to enter a password from the last active Google account (FRP-lockdown).
- π± On some models (for example, Xiaomi Mi 11 or Redmi). K50) Reset does not remove the binding to the Mi Account.
- β οΈ If you donβt know the password from the account, reset wonβt help β youβll need a bypass. FRP (section).
How to do the reset correctly:
- Save important data (photos, contacts) to an external drive or to the cloud.
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Select Erase all data (on some firmwares Delete all data and reset settings).
- Confirm action. The phone will restart and begin the cleaning process.
What if your phone asks for an old Google account after a reset?
If the reset didnβt help (the phone still asks for an old account), go to method 3 or 4.
Method 3: Delete your account via ADB (for advanced users)
The Android Debug Bridge (ADB) method works if:
- π₯οΈ You have a computer with installed ADB-driver.
- π± The phone's on debugging. USB (Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI β 7 times to tap β Additionally. β For developers β Debugging by USB).
- π You know the password from your phone (to unlock the screen).
Step-by-step:
- Connect your phone to your PC through USB-cable (original!).
- On your phone, select File Transfer (MTP) mode.
- Open the command line (Windows) or the terminal (Mac/Linux) and type:
adb devices(Your device should be displayed. If not, install drivers.)
adb shell
pm list users(This command will show all user profiles. Find the ID of the unneeded account.)
pm remove-user [ID_account](Replace. [ID_account] to a real number, for example, pm remove-user 10.)
- Enter adb shell am start -n com.google.android.gsf.login/
- In the window that opens, select another account as your primary account.
- Repeat deletion via ADB.
β οΈ Note: Delete your account through ADB It may disrupt Google Play services on some firmware MIUI. After the procedure, it is recommended to restart the phone and check the sync manually.
Method 4: Bypass FRP-lock (if the phone asks for an old account after resetting)
If you bought a used Xiaomi and after a reset, the phone requires data entry from your previous Google account, you will need to bypass Factory Reset Protection (FRP), a method that doesnβt work on all models, but itβs worth trying.
Roundabout options:
| Method | Suitable models | Difficulty | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through an emergency call (set ##4636##) | Redmi 9/10, Poco X3, Mi A3 | Low. | It might not work on the new firmware. |
| Install APK via OTG (FRP Bypass Tool) | Xiaomi 11/12, Redmi Note 11/12 | Medium | Required. OTG-cable APK |
| Firmware via Fastboot (bypassing the lock) | All models (requires an unlocked bootloader) | Tall. | Data loss, risk of "bricking" |
Detailed instructions for the emergency call method:
- On the FRP lock screen, tap the Emergency Call.
- Dial ##4636## β The test menu will open.
- Go to Usage statistics β Settings (cog icon).
- Turn on USB debugging and connect your phone to your PC.
- Enter through ADB:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.gsf.login/
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.gsf.login.LoginActivityThis will open an account entry window where you can add a new profile.
If neither method works, there are two options:
- π§ Contact the Xiaomi service center with documents on the phone (if you are the owner).
- π¦ Return the phone to the seller (if you bought the used one and he did not warn about the lock).
Method 5: Delete via Mi Account (if accounts are linked)
On some Xiaomi models (especially those with MIUI Global firmware), Googleβs account can be linked to Mi Account, in which case deletion through standard settings is blocked, but you can try:
- Go to Settings β Xiaomi account.
- Tap it on your profile. β Account management.
- Find the Linked Accounts or Security section.
- Turn off the Google link (if you have one).
- Go back to Settings β Accounts β Google and try to delete the unnecessary profile again.
If you don't have the option to disable the link, then the accounts are tightly synchronized, and then the only thing that will help is:
- π Reset to factory settings (but at risk) FRP-lock-in).
- π₯οΈ Passage ADB or firmware (sections 3-4).
What do you do if nothing helps?
If youβve tried all the ways, but the second Google account still hangs on Xiaomi, the following reasons are possible:
- π Hardware locking β on some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra or Black Shark 5) FRP-Protection is implemented at the chip level.
- π΄ Damaged firmware β if the phone was previously flashed with unofficial software, the system can glitch.
- π Sync error β account βhangsβ in the cache of Google Play Services.
Decisions:
- Swipe your phone with the official firmware through the Mi Flash Tool (instructions are available on the XDA Developers or 4PDA forum).
- Contact the service center β official partners of Xiaomi have tools for resetting FRP.
- Try an alternative firmware (like LineageOS), but this will void the warranty.

If the phone is purchased and the seller has not provided data from the Google account, the device can be returned under the Consumer Protection Act within 14 days (Article 25), after which the claim is accepted only if the proof of fraud (for example, if the seller hid the lock).
