Deleting your Mi Account from a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone is a procedure that you may need when selling a device, changing ownership, or if you no longer want to use Xiaomi services. However, many users face difficulties: the system requires a password, locks the device after a reset, or simply prevents you from deleting your account through standard settings. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to delete without being tied to the device, including bypassing the lock if you forget the login data.
Itβs important to understand: Mi Account is not just a profile in your phone, but a central account of the Xiaomi ecosystem that links your data in the cloud, purchases, smart devices and even payment services. Deleting an account directly from your phone does not always mean completely erasing it from Xiaomiβs system β this will require a separate procedure through the official website. If you plan to sell or transfer a smartphone, it is not enough just to log out: the new owner may face a block of activation (Mi Cloud Lock).
We tested all methods on the latest MIUI 14/15 firmware (including global and Chinese versions) and took into account the features of popular models: Xiaomi 13/14 series, Redmi Note 12/13, POCO F5/X5. If your device is older than 2019, some steps may differ - for such cases we have provided alternative solutions.
1. Delete Mi Account through phone settings (official way)
The easiest and safest method is to remove it directly from the smartphone menu, which is suitable if:
- π You remember the password from Mi Account and have access to the email/ phone for confirmation.
- π± The device is not locked after reset (Mi Cloud Lock).
- π The phone is connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network).
Step-by-step:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Sync β Mi Account.
- Click on your profile (avatar icon) β Account Management.
- Scroll down and select Delete Account (or Exit and Delete in new MIUI versions).
- Enter the password from Mi Account and confirm the action via SMS/email.
- Wait until the process is completed (it can take up to 5 minutes).
Once deleted, the phone will automatically log out of all Xiaomi services, but the data will be stored in the cloud (Mi Cloud). To erase it completely, go to account.xiaomi.com and manually delete the profile.
Backup important data (photos, contacts, messages)
Untie your bank cards in Mi Pay (if you used them)
Make sure your phone is at least 50% charged.
Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network

β οΈ Warning: Some models (Xiaomi 12T, Redmi K50) may need to reboot after deleting your account. If the phone is stuck in the Delete... stage, wait 10 minutes, then force it to restart (Power button + volume up for 15 seconds).
2.How to delete Mi Account if you forget your password
If you donβt remember the login details, there are two official ways to recover:
Method 1: Recovery via email/phone
- π§ On the Mi Account login screen, click Forgot your password.
- π’ Select recovery via the linked email or phone number.
- π© Enter the verification code from the email /SMS and set a new password.
- β Once you have restored access, delete your account through your settings (see Section 1).
Method 2: Unblock through Xiaomi website (if you donβt have access to email/phone)
If you have lost access to your tied contacts, try:
- Go to the recovery page.
- Select Other Ways β Enter your account ID (usually your email).
- Fill out the device data form (IMEI, serial number) and send a support request.
- Wait for a response (may take up to 3 working days).
What to do if Xiaomi support is not met?
If both methods fail, only hardware reset remains (see Section 3), but it does not guarantee the removal of the Mi Cloud Lock.
3.Remove Mi Account after resetting to factory settings
Many users believe that a Hard Reset automatically deletes the Mi Account. This is not the case: Most Xiaomi devices will be reset with a Mi Cloud Lock that requires you to enter your previous account data.
If you know the password from your Mi Account:
- Reset through Settings β About Phone β Reset settings.
- After the reboot, enter the Mi Account data on the welcome screen.
- Delete your account through settings (section 1).
If you don't know the password:
- π§ Try to restore access (Section 2).
- π± If the phone is purchased by hand and the previous owner has not deleted the account, contact him to unlock it.
- π οΈ In extreme cases, contact the service center with a purchase check (for proof of ownership).
| Model phone | Probability of blocking after reset | Can you get around without a password? |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/14 series, Redmi Note 12/13 | 99% | No (official removal required) |
| POCO F5/X5, Redmi 10/11 | 95% | Possibly via EDL- mode (Brick Risk) |
| Xiaomi Mi 9/10, Redmi Note 8/9 | 80% | Yes (through vulnerabilities in firmware) |
| Devices up to 2018 (Mi 8, Redmi 6) | 50% | Yes (via Fastboot or TWRP) |
β οΈ Warning: Forums often advise using programs like the Mi Account Unlock Tool or Xiaomi Tool V2. These methods only work on older firmware (MIUI 10-12) and can permanently lock IMEI on new devices. Xiaomi is actively fighting against such bypasses, so it is not worth the risk.
Yeah, I couldn't activate my phone.
Yeah, but I was able to get around the lockdown.
I always deleted my account in advance.
I don't know what that is.

4. Unofficial Mi Account Deletion Methods (for power users)
If the official methods don't work and the phone is locked, you can try alternative solutions, all of which carry risks, from data loss to complete bricking of the device.
- π¨ You have experience with ADB, Fastboot, or EDL.
- πΎ You've done a full backup of the data.
- π§ You are prepared for the phone to stop turning on.
Method 1: Uninstall via Fastboot (for unlocked bootloader)
Suitable for devices with unlocked bootloader (for example, after firmware custom Recovery).
fastboot oem remove-mi-account
fastboot rebootIf the team doesnβt work, try:
fastboot erase frp
fastboot erase configMethod 2: Firmware through EDL (for locked phones)
It requires a special cable (EDL cable) or a lintel on the board.
- Put your phone in EDL mode (usually Power button + up/down volume when connecting to a PC).
- Use the Mi Flash Tool to firmware a clean version of MIUI (without linking to your account).
- Choose Clean All (not Clean All and Lock!)
π‘
Before you run through EDL, check if your model supports this mode. On some devices (Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Redmi K60), Xiaomi has disabled EDL access for regular users.
Method 3: Use of vulnerabilities in MIUI (for older versions)
On the firmware MIUI 10-12, you can bypass the lock through:
- π± Exploit in Date Settings: Change the date to 2015 and try to log in with an empty password.
- π Reset via Recovery: Select Wipe β Format Data from the Recovery menu (not all models).
- π οΈ File Replacement miui_daemon: Requires root rights and only works on MIUI 11.
β οΈ Warning: Since 2023, Xiaomi has tightened protection: on new devices (MIUI 14+), these methods do not work. Attempting to use them can lead to the locking of IMEI in the Xiaomi database, after which the phone will become a brick without the possibility of recovery even in the service center.
5.How to check if Mi Account has been deleted in full
To ensure that your account is deleted from your phone and from Xiaomiβs system, follow these steps:
Phone check:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Synchronization.
- Make sure that there is no Mi Account (should be empty or other accounts like Google).
- Try to log in to Mi Cloud β if it requests login details, the account is deleted.
Checking through the website:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com.
- Try logging in under your email β if the system says βAccount not foundβ, it has been successfully deleted.
- Check the list of devices in Mi Cloud β Find the device β your phone should not be displayed there.
Post-reset test:
- Reset your phone to factory settings.
- After restarting, go through the initial setup.
- If the phone does not request Mi Account data, the lock (Mi Cloud Lock) is removed.
π‘
Even if your account is deleted from your phone, it can remain active on Xiaomiβs system. To erase it completely, make sure to delete it through account.xiaomi.com!
6. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When deleting Mi Account, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to solve them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| I couldn't delete my account. | Unstable Internet connection or failure of Xiaomi servers | Reconnect to Wi-Fi, try again in 10 minutes |
| Device locked. Enter the Mi Account password after reset. | Mi Cloud Lock β Protection against theft | Restore your password (Section 2) or contact the service center |
| The phone freezes at the stage "Delete the account..." | Firmware conflict or lack of memory | Force your phone to restart, try again. |
| This device is linked to another account when selling | Previous owner has not deleted Mi Account | Contact the seller or return the phone. |
How to avoid mistakes:
- π Before deleting your account, charge your phone at least 70%, which can take a long time.
- π Use a stable Internet connection (better Wi-Fi than mobile).
- π Record or photograph your account details (ID, email, phone) in case of recovery.
- π If you delete an account before selling, be sure to check that there is no lock after the reset.
