Deleting your Mi Account with Xiaomi Redmi 7A is a procedure you might need when selling a device, resetting to factory settings, or if you no longer want to use Xiaomi services. However, many users face difficulties: the system requires a password, blocks deletion due to a device binding, or simply prevents you from performing an action through the standard menu. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to delete an account, from official to alternative, including bypassing locks.
The peculiarity of Redmi 7A (codename pine) is that it has a default MIUI 10-12 with a hard-to-drive account binding to a hardware identifier, which means that simply deleting through settings often doesn’t work, and after a reset, the phone may require the previous owner to enter data, and we’ll tell you how to avoid such situations and what to do if you bought a used phone with someone else’s account.
Why can’t you just delete your account through your settings?
The Redmi 7A (as well as other Xiaomi smartphones until 2021) has Mi Cloud Activation Lock protection, which links the device to the Mi Account account at the firmware level. Even if you log out in the settings, the next time you reset or flash the phone will require you to enter the username and password of the previous owner.
The main reasons why standard removal does not work are:
- 🔒 Hardware Linking: Account Associated with IMEI and serial number of the device.
- 📱 An outdated version MIUI: On the Redmi. 7A frequently MIUI 10–11, where there is no “Delete Account” feature in the menu.
- 🔄 Reset Consequences: After Wipe Data in Recovery, the phone is locked on the activation screen.
- 🚫 Xiaomi restrictions: The company blocks the deletion of the account if the device is listed in the database of stolen or lost.
If you have tried to delete your account through Settings → Accounts → Mi Account → Delete your account but see a message saying “I failed to delete your account” or “The device is linked to your account” – this means that alternative methods are required.
Method 1: Delete your account through settings (official method)
This is the easiest way, but it only works if:
- ✅ You remember the password from the Mi Account.
- ✅ Phone not locked after reset.
- ✅ The device is connected to the Internet.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings. → Accounts. → Mi Account.
- Click on your profile (at the top of the screen).
- Select Account Management → Security.
- Scroll down and click Delete Account.
- Enter the password and confirm the action.
If you don't delete your account, your version of MIUI doesn't support it, so move on to the next option.

Method 2: Delete via Mi Account (if your phone is blocked)
If you can’t log in to your phone’s settings (for example, after a reset, it requires you to enter your previous account’s data), try removing your device’s binding via the web version of Mi Account.
For this:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com from a computer or other phone.
- Sign in with the same account that is linked to Redmi 7A.
- In the Devices section, find your Redmi 7A (it can be displayed as pine or model).
- Click on three dots next to the device and select Remove the device.
- Confirm the action via SMS or email.
After that, restart Redmi 7A and try to reset. If the phone still requires account data input, then the binding remains at the firmware level - you will need to reset via Fastboot (mode 4).
💡
If you are selling a phone, remove it from the list of devices in Mi Account PROGRAME – this will save the buyer from activation problems.
Method 3: Reset via Recovery Mode (if the password is forgotten)
If you don’t remember the Mi Account password but the phone is unlocked (you can use the system), try resetting your settings via Recovery. This method doesn’t guarantee deletion of your account anchor, but it can sometimes help bypass the lock.
Steps:
- Turn off Redmi 7A.
- Press the Volume Up + Power buttons and hold for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- From the Recovery menu, select Wipe Data (use volume buttons for navigation and power button for confirmation).
- Confirm the reset by selecting Wipe All Data.
- After completion, select Reboot.
⚠️ Note: If the phone requires Mi Account data to be reset, the link is saved. In this case, go to method 4 (unlock via Fastboot).
| Method | Do you need a password? | Remove the tether? | The risk of blocking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through settings | Yes. | Yes. | Low. |
| Through the Mi Account website | Yes. | Partially. | Medium. |
| Reset to Recovery | No. | No. | High-pitched |
| Fastboot (EDL) | No. | Yes. | Medium. |
Method 4: Unlocking via Fastboot (for power users)
This is the most reliable way to remove your account binding, but it requires unlocking the bootloader and working with Fastboot. If you are not sure about your skills, you should contact the service center.
What you need:
- 💻 Computer with drivers installed ADB/Fastboot.
- 🔌 Cable USB (original or quality).
- 📱 Phone with unlocked bootloader (if not, read the spoiler below).
- 🛠 Mi Flash Tool or XiaomiTool V2.
Instructions:
- Turn off the phone and press Volume Down + Power to log into the Fastboot.
- Connect the Redmi 7A to your computer.
- Download firmware for pine (for example, official MIUI or custom LineageOS).
- In the Mi Flash Tool, select Clean All mode and flash your phone.
How to unlock the bootloader on Redmi 7A?
⚠️ Note: Fastboot firmware deletes all data, including internal memory, and there is a risk of “bricking” the device if you interrupt the process or use inappropriate firmware.
💡
Fastboot firmware is the only way to securely remove the Mi Account binding, but requires an unlocked bootloader and technical skills.
Method 5: Calling for Xiaomi support (if you bought a used phone)
If you bought Redmi 7A with your hands and the previous owner did not delete the account, you can try to contact Xiaomi to support you with a request to unlink.
Steps:
- Take a picture of the phone box (if it is preserved) with the serial number and IMEI.
- Take a screenshot of the lock screen with the requirement to enter Mi Account data.
- Write in support of Xiaomi through: 🌍 Official website: mi.com/support 📧 Email: support@xiaomi.com 💬 Chats in Telegram or Facebook (support groups Xiaomi Russia).
Attach photos and explain the situation (for example: "I bought a used phone, the previous owner does not respond, please remove the binding").
⚠️ Note: Xiaomi may refuse to unlock if the phone is listed in the database of stolen devices or if you do not have a receipt for the purchase.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods don’t work, you have three options:
- Swipe your phone through EDL (Emergency Mode) requires special equipment (Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008) and knowledge, suitable for cases where the phone is not turned on or locked on the activation screen.
- Official Xiaomi centers can remove the account binding for a fee (from 1000 to 3000 rubles), but you will need a check or a purchase agreement.
- Use your phone without your primary account. If the lock only appears when you reset, you can use the device "as is" without running Wipe Data.
If you decide to flash your phone through an EDL, consider that this violates warranty and can lead to data loss without recovery, and there is a risk of damage to the eMMC module, which will make the phone inoperable.
