Parental controls on Xiaomi devices are a useful feature to restrict childrenβs access to content, but sometimes it becomes an obstacle for the owners themselves. Have you forgotten your password? bought a used phone with activated restrictions? Or just want to regain full control of your Redmi, POCO or Mi? In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to remove parental control, including official and alternative methods.
It's important to understand that bypassing the security can violate the MIUI terms of use and lead to data loss. We do not recommend using these methods to access other people's devices - only to regain control of your gadget. If you are a parent and want to temporarily suspend restrictions, use the first method. For complex cases (lost password, lock after reset), read on.
Modern versions of MIUI 14/15 have made it harder to disable parental controls, but workarounds still exist, so you have to be careful and follow the instructions Step-by-step, starting with the simplest and ending with technically sophisticated methods for power users.
1. Officially disable via settings (if you know the password)
If you remember a PIN or a password from parental control, you can undo the restrictions in 2 minutes. This method works on all Xiaomi devices, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Mi 11.
Open the Settings app and go to the App section β Parental controls. Some firmware may have different paths: Settings β System and device β Parental control, in the upper right corner, tap the gear icon (βοΈ) Select the Parental Control Settings option.
Enter your password or PIN that was set when you set the restrictions. If you use your Mi Account to manage your account, the system can request confirmation via SMS or email. Once authenticated successfully, you will see the Parental Control switch - move it to the off position.
To completely remove the restriction profile, click Remove Parental Controls (or Reset Settings) and confirm the action. Note that this will delete all saved rules and activity history.
- π Password doesn't fit? Make sure you type it in the correct layout (EN/RU) Try the standard combinations: 1234, 0000, birth-time.
- π± There's no "Parent Control" option, maybe the feature is disabled at the firmware level. β The phone. β Version. MIUI β for MIUI Global and MIUI Europe's paths are different.
- π After disabling, the restrictions came back? Is it a bug of some versions MIUI 14.Reboot the device or update the firmware through Settings β Updating the system.
β οΈ Note: If you use Google Family Link instead of Xiaomiβs built-in parental controls, you need to turn off restrictions via the Family Link app on your main device. MIUI It won't work.
2. reset the password of parental control through Mi Account
Forgot your password but tied parental controls to your Mi Account? In this case, you can restore access through official Xiaomi channels, which works if the device is connected to the Internet and you have access to an email/phone associated with the account.
Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in. In Devices, find your smartphone and select Parental Controls. The system will suggest resetting your password via email or SMS. Follow the on-screen instructions β usually entering a confirmation code and creating a new PIN.
If two-factor authentication (2FA) is activated on the device, you will need to enter code from the Mi Authenticator or SMS application. After successfully resetting your password, return to the parental control settings on your phone and enter a new code.
Alternatively, in the Settings app, go to Accounts β Mi Account β Security. You can reset the password for all services, including parental controls. Note: this method requires verification of identity through the linked phone number.
βοΈ Preparation for password reset
| Resetting method | Requirements | Implementation time | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through account.xiaomi.com | Access to email/phone, Internet | 2-5 minutes | No (official way) |
| Through the Mi Account settings | Two-factor authentication | 3-7 minutes | Blocking the account with incorrect attempts |
| SMS reset | Active. SIM-card | 1-3 minutes | Delayed receipt of SMS |
β οΈ Note: If you buy a used Xiaomi phone with the previous ownerβs Mi Account tied, you will not officially reset the parental control password. In this case, you will need a complete reset of the device (see section 4), but this will delete all data!
3. Bypassing parental controls via Safe Mode (without password)
If you canβt remember the password and canβt recover it through Mi Account, try temporarily disabling parental controls through Safe Mode. This method works on most Xiaomi devices with MIUI 12-15, but may require a reboot.
To enter Safe Mode:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power button before the Xiaomi logo appears.
- Once the logo appears, hold the Volume Down button until the system is fully loaded.
- In the lower left corner of the screen should appear the inscription Safe mode.
In Safe Mode, all third-party apps and some system features are turned off, including parental controls. Go to Settings β Apps β Parental Controls and try to turn off the feature without entering a password. If this method works, restart the device in normal mode.
Important: On some models (e.g. Redmi 10C and POCO M4 Pro) in Safe Mode, parental controls remain active, in which case move on to the next method.
Why is Safe Mode not always working?
4. Full reset (Hard Reset) - last resort
If no other method has worked, you can still reset your device to factory settings, which will delete all data, including apps, photos and accounts, but also remove parental controls, and only use this method if:
- The phone does not contain important information.
- You're ready to re-set it.
- Other methods didn't help.
For reset via Recovery Mode:
- Turn off the device.
- Press the Power and Volume buttons simultaneously before the Mi logo appears.
- In the Restore menu, select the language (if you have an option), then Wipe Data β Wipe All Data.
- Confirm the action and wait for the process to be completed.
- Reboot your phone with Reboot β Reboot to System.
On the new models (Xiaomi 13, Redmi Note 12 Pro+), the path may be different: Wipe & Reset β Format Data. In this case, you will need to enter a password from Mi Account if it was tied to the device. If you do not remember the password, reset will not be possible without official unlocking through Xiaomi Service.
β οΈ Warning: After a hard reset, the device may require you to enter your previous Mi Account (Mi Cloud Lock feature). If the phone was purchased from hand, contact the seller to unbundle the account. Otherwise, you will have to contact the Xiaomi service center with proof of purchase.

Remove before resetting SIM-card and memory card β this will speed up the process and reduce the risk of data damage on external media.
5.Use of ADB-Teams for experienced users
If you are familiar with Android Debug Bridge (ADB), You can try to turn off parental control through the command line. USB-Debugging and does not work on all versions MIUI, but can be useful for devices with root access or unlocked bootloader.
First, activate the Developer Mode:
- Go to Settings. β The phone.
- Tap 7 times on the MIUI version.
- Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- Turn it on. USB-debugging.
Connect your phone to your PC, install ADB Tools, and execute the commands:
adb shell
pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.guardprovider
pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.guardproviderThese commands will remove and disable the parental control system application. Once you reboot, the restrictions should disappear. If you have a Permission denied error, then your device has been blocked from superuser rights, in which case only unlocking the bootloader through the Mi Unlock Tool will help.
- π₯οΈ ADB Does the device not recognize? Install Xiaomi drivers USB Drivers and check the connection by USB (Select the File Transfer Mode).
- π You need root rights? MIUI 14+ Getting root harder because of Xiaomi blocking.Use XDA-Developers to find relevant guides.
- β οΈ Risks: Wrong ADB-You can have teams disrupting the system!
π‘
ADB-This method is only suitable for users with experience with the command line, and on devices with a locked bootloader, it will not work without first unlocking.
6. Alternative methods: bypassing through third-party applications
You can find apps that promise to hack Xiaomiβs parental controls online, and we donβt recommend using them for a few reasons:
- π‘οΈ Security: Most of these programs contain malicious code or spyware.
- π« Inefficiency: MIUI Regularly updates the protection and old methods stop working.
- π΅ Account Lock: Xiaomi may ban your Mi Account for trying to bypass security.
If you do decide to take a risk, look for solutions in trusted forums such as XDA-Developers or 4PDA. Pay attention to reviews and publication dates β methods older than 2023 are likely irrelevant.
One relatively safe way to do this is to use backup applications like Titanium Backup that can delete parental controls, but this requires root rights and doesn't work on all devices.
β οΈ Note: Installing modified firmware (e.g. LineageOS) to bypass parental controls will result in loss of warranty and possible device problems. 4X, Mi A1), where official support has already been discontinued.
