Forgot the pattern lock on Xiaomi Redmi and can't unlock your phone? This is a familiar situation for many users, especially if the device has been left unused for a long time or the password was entered automatically. Fortunately, there are several official and alternative ways to unblock without going to the service center.
In this article, we will take a look at all the current unlocking methods, from standard reset via Mi Account to Fastboot and Recovery modes. You will learn which ways to save data and which lead to a complete reset, as well as how to avoid re-blocking in the future. Importantly, some methods require preliminary preparation (for example, linking a Xiaomi account), so read the terms of each option carefully.
If your Redmi is equipped with a MediaTek chip or a Qualcomm Snapdragon, the algorithm of actions may be slightly different β we have taken these nuances into account in the instructions, and we will also consider separately cases when the phone is not connected to the Internet or recognized by the computer.
1 Unlocking through Mi Account (official method)
The most reliable and recommended way Xiaomi is to use a tied account Mi Account. It works on all models of Redmi (including Redmi Note 10/11/12, Redmi 9/10/13C, etc.), if you previously:
- πΉ Log into a phone account.
- πΉ Connected the device to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network)
- πΉ Do not turn off the function Find the device in the settings
After 5 failed attempts to enter the pattern lock, the system will offer the option Forgot the password?. Click on it and follow the instructions:
- Select Log in to Mi Account.
- Enter the login (email or phone number) and password from the account.
- Confirm unlocking via SMS or email (if two-factor authentication is enabled).
- Create a new pattern lock or PIN-code.
β οΈ Note: If you do not remember the data from Mi Account, restore access through the official website. Using third-party services to "hack" the account can lead to blocking IMEI device.
2. Recovery Mode reset (data loss)
If Mi Account is not tied or you don't remember data, the only one-size-fits-all method is hard resetting through Recovery Mode, which will delete all the data on your phone, including photos, contacts and apps, but will return access to the device.
Instructions for all Redmi models (including Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi 7A, Redmi K40, etc.):
Turn off the phone (press the power button for 10 seconds)
Connect the charger (the battery must be charged at least 30%)
Make sure you have a backup of important data
Prepare. SIM-card or second phone to restore your account after resetting-->
- Turn off the phone (if it is getting stuck β press Power + Volume up for 15 seconds).
- Hold the combination: πΉ For most models: Nutrition + Loudness up πΉ For Redmi with MediaTek chip: Power + Loudness up + Loudness down

β οΈ Attention: On models with MIUI 12+ After the reset, you may need to enter data from the Mi Account that was previously linked (FRP-If you do not remember your account, use the method in section 3.

3. Unlock via Fastboot (for advanced users)
The method via Fastboot is suitable if:
- πΉ Recovery Mode is not available or requires a password
- πΉ The phone's debugging on. USB (USB Debugging)
- πΉ You have a computer with Xiaomi drivers installed and ADB/Fastboot
This method bypasses the lock without completely resetting, but requires technical skills. On models with MIUI 13+ and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/2 chip, this method may not work due to the increased protection of the bootloader.
Step-by-step:
- Install Android SDK Platform-Tools on your PC.
- Turn off the phone and press Power + Volume down to log into Fastboot.
- Connect your phone to your PC through USB-cable.
- Open the command line in the ADB folder and type: fastboot devices (should display your Redmi serial number).
- Enter the command to unlock: fastboot oem unlock or to reset: fastboot -w
- Reboot the phone: fastboot reboot
β οΈ Note: New models (Redmi Note 12 Pro)+, Redmi K60) Official permission to unlock the bootloader through the Xiaomi site may be required. The process takes up to 72 hours.
| Model Redmi | Support for Fastboot Unlocking | Does Xiaomiβs permission need to be approved? |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11 | Yes. | No (on MIUI 12) |
| Redmi 9/9A/9C | Yes. | No. |
| Redmi K50 Pro | Yes. | Yes (on MIUI 13+) |
| Redmi 13C | Partially. | Yes. |
4.Use of ADB (if USB debugging is enabled)
If your Redmi has previously activated USB Debugging (Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version β 7 times tap β Developers β USB Debugging), you can delete the pattern lock via ADB without losing data.
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your PC (even if it is locked).
- Open the command line and type in: adb shell su rm /data/system/gesture.key rm /data/system/locksettings.db rm /data/system/locksettings.db-wal rm /data/system/locksettings.db-shm reboot
- After rebooting, the pattern lock will be reset.
β οΈ Attention: MIUI 14 and later, this method may not work due to the changed structure of the system files.
adb shell am start -n com.android.settings/.ChooseLockGenericThis will open the lock change menu where you can install a new one. PIN-code.-->
5. Bypassing locking through service codes (for older models)
On Redmi with MIUI 8-10 firmware (e.g. Redmi 4X, Redmi 5A), you can try bypassing the pattern lock through service codes, which does not work on all devices and can cause system failure.
Try the following combinations:
- πΉ ##7780## - Resetting settings (saves data)
- πΉ *2767*3855# β full reset (remove everything)
- πΉ ##4636## β Battery β Reset (not always working)
If the phone restarted after entering the code, but the lock remained, use Recovery Mode (Section 2).
π‘
Service codes are the most unreliable method, and on newer models (MIUI 11+), they are disabled or lead to a Connection problem error.
6. Contact the Xiaomi Service Center
If none of the methods worked, the official service remains. Xiaomi provides a service of unlocking the passport of the owner (to confirm ownership), the cost is from 500 to 1500 rubles depending on the model.
What will be required:
- πΉ Passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation (or another country where the phone was purchased)
- πΉ Check or warranty card (if retained)
- πΉ Phone box (for confirmation) IMEI)
The unlock period is 1-3 days, and some service centers offer "express unlock" in 1 hour, but this is an informal service and may violate the warranty.
β οΈ Warning: Avoid "handicraft" craftsmen offering unlock through EDL-Incorrect actions can lead to loss of IMEI or "bricking" the phone.
7.How to avoid blocking in the future
To avoid the problem of a forgotten pattern lock, follow these tips:
Link Mi Account to your phone (Settings β Accounts β Mi Account)
Enable the βFind Deviceβ function (Settings β Mi Account β Find the Device)
Create a backup of data (Settings β System β Backup)
Write down the pattern lock in a safe place (e.g., in Google Keep notes)
Use it. PIN-code instead of a pattern lock (it is easier to remember)-->
We also recommend:
- πΉ Set up a Smart Lock (automatically unlock in secure places, such as at home). β Screen locking β Smart Lock.
- πΉ Add a fingerprint or facial recognition as an alternative way to unlock.
- πΉ Periodically check the work of Mi Account (entry / exit from the account).
On models with MIUI 14+, when reset via Recovery, you may need to enter the old pattern lock even after a full reset, which is due to the Anti-Rollback Protection (ARB) feature, which cannot be turned off.
