Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners are some of the most popular smart cleaning devices, but sometimes their settings get confused, there are connection errors or you need to transfer the gadget to a new owner. In such cases, a full reset to factory parameters helps. However, the procedure differs depending on the model (Mi Robot Vacuum, Dreame, Viomi) and the firmware version.
In this article, you will find the most current reset methods for all modern models (2020-2026), including instructions via a mobile application, physical buttons on the case and even voice commands, and we will also discuss how to avoid the typical errors that can turn a reset into a brick for a device.
When do you need a reset?
Resetting the parameters of the robot vacuum cleaner Xiaomi is not only worth when selling or transferring the device, here are the key situations when the procedure is justified:
- π The device does not connect to Wi-Fi after changing the router or password of the network, despite repeated attempts to sync.
- π€ Vacuum cleaner ignores commands from Mi app Home/Dreamehome, though the connection is established.
- πΊοΈ The map of the room lost or the robot began to move chaotically, not following the saved routes.
- π After the firmware update, errors (codes) appeared E1, E2, E5 etc.).
- π± The owner of the Mi Account has changed, and you need to tie the vacuum cleaner to a new profile.
Important: resetting will not help if the problem is related to mechanical malfunctions (wear of brushes, sensors breakage, discharged battery), in such cases, repair or replacement of parts is required.
Preparation for resetting: what to do in advance
Before you return the factory settings, follow a few critical steps, which will save you from losing important data and make it easier to set up after the reset:
- Save a map of the room. In the Mi Home or Dreamehome app, take screenshots of the screen with the saved maps (if the feature is available for your model). Some robots (Dreame Bot Z10 Pro, Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro) allow you to export maps to the cloud - use this option.
- Write down your cleaning settings. Record the usual parameters: suction power, room order, schedule, no-go areas, and after you reset them, you have to reconfigure them.
- Untie your device from your account (if you plan to sell a vacuum cleaner) This will prevent the new owner from accessing your data, and you can do this in the application settings: Profile β Devices β [Your vacuum cleaner] β Untie.
Cloud data warning: If your robot vacuum cleaner syncs the maps to Xiaomi servers (a Cloud Map feature), they may be lost permanently after reset.

Method 1: Resetting via mobile application
The safest and most recommended method is to use official software. The instructions are suitable for most Xiaomi, Dreame and Viomi models released after 2018.
Steps for the Mi Home app:
- Open the app and select your robot vacuum cleaner on the home screen.
- Go to Settings β General β Resetting (or Additional β Restore factory settings for some models).
- Confirm the action by entering the password from the Mi Account (if necessary).
- Wait for the process to be completed (the robot will sound and restart).
For the Dreamehome application, the path may be different: Device Profile β Settings β Reset to factory.
What to do if there is no reset button in the application?
Procedure time: usually takes 1-3 minutes. If the robot is stuck in the reset phase for longer than 10 minutes, do not disconnect it from the power supply, wait for automatic reset or use the forced reset method (described below).
Method 2: Hardware reset buttons on the body
If you lose access to an app (for example, when you change your smartphone or delete your account), you can return factory settings through a combination of buttons on the device itself.
| Model robot vacuum cleaner | Button combination | Retention time |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1/1S/2 | Keep your food + home | 10-15 seconds |
| Dreame Bot D9/Z10/L10 | Keep your food on + Spot Cleaning | 5-7 seconds |
| Viomi V2/V3 | Keep the food in place + Cleaning mode | Before the beep. |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | Keep food + touch home 3 times | 12 seconds |
Algorithm of action:
- Make sure that the robot vacuum cleaner is charged at least 30% (otherwise the reset may be interrupted).
- Press and hold the button combination until you hear a voice confirmation (in English or Chinese) or the reset indicator lights up (usually flashing orange).
- Release the buttons and wait for the reboot (the robot will emit a long beep).
β οΈ Note: Do not use this method for models with touch buttons (Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum) X10+, DreameBot X30). For them, a hardware reset can result in a bootloader lock. In such cases, only apply a software reset via the application.
Method 3: Reset via voice assistant (for supported models)
Some Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners (such as Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P or DreameBot W10) support control through voice assistants such as Alice, Google Assistant or Siri.
- π€ Only for devices with firmware in 2022 and later. Check the version in the application settings.
- π Requires active Wi-Fi connection and link to Mi Account.
- π± The voice command works only through the official application (not through third-party services like Yandex Smart Home).
Instructions:
- Activate the voice assistant in the Mi Home app (the microphone icon in the upper right corner).
- Say the command: "Reset vacuum cleaner to factory settings" or "Reset vacuum cleaner to factory settings" (in English for some models).
- Confirm the action in the pop-up window.
If the voice command does not work, check:
- The latest version of the application.
- Activation of the voice control function in the robot settings.
- No geolocation restrictions (some features are not available outside of China).
π‘
If the robot doesn't respond to voice commands, try reconnecting it to Wi-Fi manually, and sometimes sync failures block the assistant from working.
What to do if the reset does not work?
If neither method worked, the problem could be a software failure or hardware lock, and here's the diagnostic algorithm.
- Check the battery power. At levels below 20 percent, some models block the reset. Connect the vacuum cleaner to the dock for 30 to 60 minutes.
- Update the firmware. Outdated versions of the software may contain errors that prevent resetting. Check the updates in the application.
- Change region to Mi Home. Some features (including reset) are only available when you select China or Singapore in your account settings.
- For Dreame models, try Dreamehome instead of Mi Home, and vice versa.
If the robot vacuum cleaner is getting stuck during the reset stage (red light, does not respond to buttons), perform a forced reboot:
- Turn the vacuum cleaner off the power (remove from the docking station).
- Hold the power button for 20-30 seconds.
- Connect to the charger and try again to reset.
β οΈ Note: If after resetting, the robot vacuum cleaner Xiaomi gives an error E4 (gyroscope problem) or E6 (Sensor error, do not attempt to repeat the procedure, this may indicate a hardware malfunction requiring repair at the service center.
Setting up a robot vacuum cleaner after resetting
After a successful reset, the device will return to the "out of the box" state, and you will need to perform the initial setup:
- Wi-Fi Connection: Turn on the robot vacuum cleaner, holding the Power button for 3 seconds. In the Mi Home app, click Add Device and select a model. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to the network (use 2.4 GHz frequency - 5 GHz is not supported!).
- Create a room map: Start the first cleaning in Full Clean mode. After completion, save the map in the application and mark areas / rooms.
Restore individual settings
- Set up a cleaning schedule (Settings β Schedule).
- Set suction power and wet cleaning mode (if supported).
- Add virtual walls and no-go zones (Settings β Map β Cleanup Zones).
Tip for apartment buildings: if you have multiple Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners, assign each one a unique name in your Wi-Fi settings (e.g. Xiaomi-Vacuum-Kitchen) to prevent conflicts when connecting.
π‘
Once reset, the robot vacuum cleaner may temporarily work less efficiently, which is normal, and it needs 2-3 cleaning cycles to remember the layout of the room and optimize routes.
