Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners are some of the most popular smart cleaning assistants, but even they sometimes require a complete reset. Perhaps you sell a device, it started to glittle after a firmware update, or just want to return factory settings to keep the experiment clean. In this article, weβll look at all the current reset methods for Mi Robot Vacuum, Dreame, Viomi and other brand lines, from the software method through the application to the hardware reset buttons.
It's important to understand that resetting removes all stored room maps, cleaning history, customized suction and schedule settings. If you're planning to sell a vacuum cleaner, it's a logical step. If the goal is to fix the problem, first try rebooting the device (hold the power button for 10 seconds) or updating the firmware. In 60% of cases, the problem is solved without radical measures.
We tested the instructions on Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame D9 and Viomi V3 models β all of which work the same way, unless otherwise stated. Older devices (until 2019) may require an additional step to connect to Mi Home via an account from China Mainland β this will be discussed separately.
1.Reset via Mi Home/Dreame/Viomi app
The safest and most recommended way is to use an official app, which is suitable if the vacuum cleaner is connected to Wi-Fi and synced with your account.
- Open the Mi Home app (or Dreame/Viomi for the respective models).
- Select your robot vacuum cleaner from the list of devices.
- Go to Settings β General β Reset (or Additional β Restore Factory Settings for Dreame).
- Confirm the action in the pop-up window, the vacuum cleaner will sound and reboot.
β οΈ Warning: If the vacuum cleaner does not appear in the list of devices after reset, manually delete it from the account (Profile) β My devices. β Remove) and add again via Add Device β Fast-wire binding.
For models with a hybrid system (vacuum + mop) such as Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P after reset, you may need to recalibrate the humidity sensors. It is normal to just start the first cleaning in Moping mode.

2. Hardware resetting with buttons on the body
If the vacuum cleaner is not connected to the app or you sell it without transferring your account, use physical buttons. The method works on all Xiaomi models, including Mi Robot Vacuum 1S, Dreame D10s and Viomi SE.
- π Charging station (vacuum cleaner must be on the base)
- π± Paperclip or toothpick (for some models)
- β±οΈ Timer (second on the phone)
Instructions:
- Make sure the vacuum cleaner is off (press and hold the power button for 3 seconds).
- Press the power + home buttons at the same time (or power + Spot Cleaning for older models).
- Hold for 5-7 seconds until you hear a double beep.
- Release the buttons β the vacuum cleaner will start the reset process (the indicator will flash orange).
β οΈ Attention: On Dreame models Z10 Pro and Viomi V2 Pro instead of holding the buttons, you need to quickly press Power 5 times, then 1 time on Home. If it does not work, repeat at an interval of 1 second between presses.
What to do if the buttons do not respond?
| Model vacuum cleaner | Button combination | Sound signal | Retention time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Robot Vacuum 1/1S | Food + Home | Double beep. | 5 seconds |
| Dreame D9/D10s | Power + Spot Cleaning | Triple beep. | 7 seconds |

3. Reset via Mi Home in Developer Mode (for experienced)
This method is suitable if standard methods have not worked, or you want to selectively reset individual parameters (for example, only room maps).
- Open Mi Home, go to your account profile.
- Click 5 times in a row on the app version (bottom of the screen) until you become a developer.
- Go back to the list of devices, select a vacuum cleaner.
- Go to Settings β About the device β Firmware version.
- Click 10 times on the version number and the Developer Mode menu will open.
- Select Factory Reset or Clear Map Data (if you only need to reset the cards).
Note: After resetting through Developer Mode, the vacuum cleaner may require re-assignment to the SMS confirmation account. Do not interrupt the process if you see the words "Waiting for device response" - this can take up to 3 minutes.
This method is also useful if you are buying a used vacuum cleaner and want to remove the binding to the previous owner. 90% of the time, just select Unbind Device from the same developer menu.
1) Reboot the router.
(2) Use the access point with the telephone (modem mode).
(3) Manually indicate IP-router (DHCP reservation).-->
4. Reset for vacuum cleaners with errors (codes 1-12)
If your Xiaomi is giving you an error like Error 5 (collision sensor problem) or Error 12 (brush jamming), resetting can help, but only after the physical malfunction is fixed.
- π§ Errors 1-4 (sensors): wipe the sensors with alcohol, check the transparency of the lidar glass.
- π 5-8 Errors (wheels/brushes): Remove the coiled hair, check the drive belt.
- π Errors 9-12 (battery): connect to charging for 12 hours, then reset.
After the cause has been eliminated:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner (hold the power button for 10 seconds).
- Connect to the base and wait for full charging (indicator green).
- Reset with buttons (see section 2).
- If the error persists, update the firmware through Mi Home.
β οΈ Attention: Error 10 (low battery voltage) error after discharge requires full discharge and charging of the vacuum cleaner. Connect it to the base, wait 100%, then start cleaning until automatically returned to base. Repeat 2-3 times.
5. Features of resetting for old models (until 2019)
Vacuum cleaners Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1 (2016-2018) have a number of nuances:
- π Require China Mainland region binding in Mi Home (change account settings).
- π Reset buttons only works when connected to the base (otherwise the indicator flashes red).
- π± Mi Home is not newer than 5.6.19 (newer versions do not support old firmware).
If your model is released before 2019 and is not reset:
- Install the old version of Mi Home (APK can be downloaded from APKCombo).
- Switch your account region to China Mainland.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to the base and hold Power + Home for 10 seconds (instead of the standard 5).
π‘
For older Xiaomi models, after reset, you may need to manually firmware through ADB (power users only). Official instructions are available on the 4PDA forum in device-specific topics.
6.What to do after resetting: initial setting
After a successful discharge, the vacuum cleaner will return to factory parameters.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Use a 2.4 GHz network (5 GHz not supported).
- Update the firmware: in Mi Home go to Settings β Software Update.
- Calibrate the sensors: run the test cleaning in Standard mode.
- Configure zones: Create virtual walls and forbidden zones in the app.
For models with a mop (Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame W10):
- π§ Pour water into the tank and start Mopping mode to calibrate the flow rate.
- π§Ή Set the suction level on Balanced (medium) for the first cleaning.
β οΈ Note: If after the discharge the vacuum cleaner does not build a map of the room, check:
- Clean lidar (wipe the glass with a lilarless fabric).
Lighting in the room (in the dark, sensors work worse).
Reflective surfaces (mirrors, glass) β they can disrupt navigation.

After resetting the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P, the βSilent Cleaningβ mode (reduced power) is automatically activated. To return the standard settings, go to Settings β Cleaning Modes β Reset to factory.
