Deleting Xiaomi (or Mi Account) is a procedure that users experience when selling a device, resetting to factory settings, or having synchronization problems. However, what many people donβt know is that simply deleting a profile through settings doesnβt always lead to a complete detachment of the device from the account, which can result in a lockdown after a reset (called Mi Cloud Lock), where the phone requires you to enter your old account details even if you sold it.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to delete Mi Account β from standard disconnection through settings to bypass lock on locked devices. Particular attention will be paid to the nuances for different versions of MIUI (12 to 14) and smartphone models (including Redmi, POCO and Black Shark). If you need to reset your account before selling or unlock your phone after buying βhandsβ β here you will find working solutions.
1.Why can't you just delete your account through settings?
Many users mistakenly believe that just go to Settings β Accounts β Mi Account and click βDeleteβ. In fact, this only leads to local deletion of the profile from the device, but does not cancel the binding to the servers of Xiaomi.
The reason is because of the Mi Cloud Lock (also known as FRP Lock for Xiaomi), which binds the device to a hardware-level account, which is protection against theft, but it also creates problems when you legally resell it.
- π ID The device remains linked to the account on Xiaomi servers even after local deletion.
- π When reset via Recovery or Fastboot, the phone checks the binding status of the Mi Cloud.
- β οΈ If the binding is active, a request appears to enter the login / password of the old account (even if you deleted it locally).
The exception is devices with an unlocked bootloader (bootloader) - you can bypass the check, but this requires additional manipulations (we will discuss them below).
Method 1: Standard Account Deletion (if the phone is unlocked)
If you have access to a device and remember the Mi Account password, use this method. It is suitable for MIUI 12-14 and most Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO models (except for HyperOS devices, for these, see section 5).
βοΈ Preparing for account deletion
Step-by-step:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Sync β Mi Account.
- Click on your profile (at the top of the screen).
- Select Account Management β Security β Delete Account.
- Enter the password from Mi Account and confirm the deletion via SMS or email (if requested).
- Wait until the process is completed (it can take up to 5 minutes).
After that, the device will be untied from the account, and you can reset to the factory settings without the risk of locking.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T, Redmi Note 11 Pro+) After deleting your account, you may be able to stay connected to Mi Cloud for 72 hours, during which time the reset will result in a lock, and we recommend waiting 3 days before selling or resetting your account.
π‘
If the settings still show βAttached to Mi Cloudβ after deleting your account, restart your device and check the status again in 10-15 minutes.
Method 2: Delete your account via the Mi Account website (if your phone is lost or blocked)
If you don't have access to the device, but you remember the data from the Mi Account, you can remove the anchor through the official Xiaomi website. This method works for all devices, including the Mi Band, Mi TV and Mi Notebook laptops.
Important: Once you delete your account through the site, all data (photos in Mi Cloud, notes, call history) will be permanently deleted. If you need to save information, export it first.
Instructions:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- In the Devices section, find your device and click Delete (or Untie).
- Confirm the action via SMS or email.
- If the device does not appear in the list, use Find the device and select Delete from your account.
And then you're going to be able to untether the device as new, but there are limitations.
- β³ Deletion through the site can take up to 24 hours (in rare cases - up to 72 hours).
- π± On certain devices (e.g, POCO F4 GT, Black Shark 5 requires additional confirmation via Mi Unlock Tool.
- π If the Find the device function is enabled, it will not be remotely untieable.
What if the device is not displayed in the Mi Account?
Method 3: Delete your account via Mi Unlock Tool (for unlocked bootloader)
If standard methods do not work (for example, the device is locked after reset), you can use the official Mi Unlock Tool. This method is suitable for devices with an unlocked bootloader or those that can be unlocked.
Warning: Unlocking the bootloader resets all data and can lead to loss of warranty. Some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Redmi K60 Pro) require waiting 7-30 days after the account is linked to the device.
Step-by-step:
- Download the Mi Unlock Tool from the official website en.miui.com/unlock.
- Sign in to the tool under the same account that is linked to the device.
- Turn your phone into Fastboot mode: Turn off the device β Press <power button> + <volume down button> before the Fastboot logo appears.
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB and press Unlock in the Mi Unlock Tool.
- Wait until the process is completed (it can take up to 10 minutes).
Once you unlock the bootloader, you can flash the device through Fastboot or Recovery, which will automatically remove the binding to the Mi Account.
β οΈ Attention: On devices with MIUI 13+ And HyperOS, after unlocking the bootloader, may require a new account to be linked within 24 hours, otherwise the phone will lock again.
| Model of the device | Waiting time to unlock | Is Anti-Rollback required? |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 12/12 Pro | 7 days | Yes. |
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | 3 days | No. |
| POCO X4 Pro | 14 days | Yes. |
| Black Shark 4 | 0 days (unlock immediately) | No. |
5. Method 4: Bypassing Mi Account lock on locked devices (without password)
If you bought a used device with a linked account or forgot your Mi Account, standard methods won't work, and you have to use workarounds that vary depending on the MIUI version and device model.
Important: These methods may violate Xiaomiβs user agreement and result in a loss of warranty. Use them only in extreme cases (for example, if the seller cannot untie the account).
Roundabout options:
- π§ Dumping through EDL-It requires special cable and software (Mi Flash Tool, QFil) suitable for Qualcomm chips.
- π± Exploiting vulnerabilities MIUI (For example, bypassing Emergency Call on older versions. MIUI 14 and HyperOS, this method does not work.
- π Contacting the service center with proof of purchase (check, contract). Xiaomi can remove the lock on request.
For MediaTek devices (e.g. Redmi 9A, POCO C31), you can try resetting via the SP Flash Tool, but this requires an authentication file that is difficult to obtain legally.
β οΈ Warning: Forums often offer "paid services" to delete Mi Account via TeamViewer or remote access, and this is a scam β once paid, you may be sent a virus or permanently blocked!
π‘
The only legal way to delete someone elseβs Mi Account without a password is to contact the official Xiaomi service center with documents confirming the purchase of the device.
6. Method 5: Delete account on HyperOS devices (new models 2026)
With the release of HyperOS (replacing MIUI on 2026 devices, for example, Xiaomi 14, Redmi K70), the process of managing accounts has changed. Now, additional confirmation through Xiaomi ID is required to completely remove the anchor.
Instructions for HyperOS:
- Open Settings β Accounts β Xiaomi ID.
- Select Device Management and find your device in the list.
- Click Untie and confirm the action via two-factor authentication (SMS + email).
- Reboot the device and reset through Settings β About Phone β Reset settings.
HyperOS also has a Secure Transfer feature that allows you to transfer the device to a new owner without the risk of locking it.
- Activate Secure Transfer mode in Settings β Accounts β Xiaomi ID.
- Generate a one-time code and pass it on to a new owner.
- The new user will enter the code when you first set up, and the device will automatically unplug the old account.
This method is recommended when selling devices on HyperOS, as it is guaranteed to remove all locks.
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When deleting Mi Accounts, users often face typical preventable problems, and these are the most common mistakes:
- π Reset to factory settings without detachment of account β You can get your account deleted first!
- β³ Ignoring waiting time after unlocking the bootloader β The device can be locked for 72 hours.
- π± Attempt to bypass the lock through informal firmware β risk of "filling" the device (complete loss of performance).
- π Using Other Peopleβs Accounts to Unblock β Xiaomi may ban the device for suspicious activity.
To avoid problems, follow this algorithm:
- Check if the bootloader is unlocked (Settings β About Phone β MIUI β Press the kernel version several times. If the message appears Bootloader unlocked, then unlock is already done).
- Delete your account through your settings or Mi Account website.
- Wait 72 hours before resetting (if you have recently deleted your account).
- Reset via Settings β Additional β Reset settings (not via Recovery!).
8 What to do if nothing helps?
If youβve tried all the ways, but the device still requires the old Mi Account data, the following options remain:
- π Call for support for Xiaomi: Write in the chat on the website https://www.mi.com/global/support/ or call me on the phone. +86 400 100 5678 (for Russia: +7 495 783-78-73). It will be necessary to provide: IMEI devices (you can find out through *#06#). Check or sales contract, a photo of a box with a serial number.
- π§ Official SC Xiaomi can remove the lock on request, but this is a paid service (from 1000 to 3000 rubles depending on the model).
- π οΈ Refuse the device through EDL: This method requires skills and special equipment, suitable for devices on Qualcomm Snapdragon. 4PDA or XDA Developers, but be prepared for the risk of damaging your device.
If the device was bought with hands and the seller refuses to help, you can try to return the money through the law on consumer protection (Article 18), since the sale of the device with a tied account is considered a violation of the rights of the buyer.
π‘
When buying a used Xiaomi device, always check the status of Mi Account through Settings β Accounts. If the seller refuses to delete the account with you - this is an excuse to abandon the deal!
