Why Redmi 6 Pro Reset May Be Needed and What You Need to Know
Resetting the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro to factory settings is a radical but sometimes necessary solution, which may be necessary if your smartphone starts to brake after a MIUI update, is infected with viruses, does not respond to touch, or you plan to sell the device. However, a full reset removes all data from internal memory: photos, contacts, messages and installed applications. Even if you previously backed up through the Mi Cloud, some settings (for example, Wi-Fi passwords or game accounts) will have to be manually restored.
The Redmi 6 Pro features two reset options: through the settings menu (if the phone is turned on) and through Recovery mode (if the system is not booting). There is also a method through Fastboot, but it requires a computer and is suitable for advanced users. It is important to note that on devices with an unlocked bootloader, the process may be different, we will discuss this separately.
Before you start, check:
- π Battery charge β at least 50% (when reset via Recovery, the phone should not turn off).
- π± Whether important data (photos, chats, documents) is stored on Mi Cloud, Google Drive or computer.
- π Do you know the username and password from the Mi Account β after the reset, you may need proof of ownership.
- π§ Is there any on hand? USB-cable and computer (in case you need a Fastboot).
Method 1: Reset via the settings menu (if the phone is turned on)
This is the easiest and safest method available directly from the system. Suitable if the Redmi 6 Pro is loading but is unstable. The instructions are relevant for all versions of MIUI, including MIUI 10/11/12.
Steps:
- Open Settings (the gear icon on the main screen).
- Go to the About Phone section β Additional β Recovery and Reset.
- Select Settings Reset.
- The system will ask you to choose what to drop: π± All data β full reset to factory settings. π Settings β system settings only (apps and files will remain).

Wait until the process is complete (usually takes 3-5 minutes) and the phone will reboot automatically.
After the reboot, you will be asked to configure the device as new. If you previously had a Mi Account attached, you will need to enter the username and password to unlock (Mi Account Lock).
βοΈ Preparation for reset via menu
β οΈ Note: If the Redmi 6 Pro has root access or custom firmware installed, a reset via the menu can lead to a logo hanging. MI. In this case, you will need firmware through Fastboot.
Method 2: Reset via Recovery Mode (if the phone is not turned on)
If the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is stuck on the logo, reboots cyclically or doesnβt respond to touch, Recovery Mode will help. This method doesnβt require a computer, but you need physical device buttons.
Instructions:
- Turn off the phone (press the power button for 10-15 seconds if it freezes).
- Press the Power button + Volume up at the same time and hold for 5-7 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- Release the buttons and you will be taken to the Recovery menu (in English or Chinese).
- Use volume buttons for navigation and power button to select the item.
- Select Wipe Data β Wipe All Data (full reset).
- Confirm the action by choosing Confirm.
- Once you have finished, select Reboot β Reboot to System.
If the Recovery menu is in Chinese, focus on the location of the items:
| Menu item (English) | Translation into Russian | Action. |
|---|---|---|
| Wipe Data | Clearing the data | Resetting settings |
| Wipe All Data | Delete all data | Total reset |
| Reboot | Reboot. | Get in the system. |
| Connect with MIAssistant | Connect to the PC | For firmware through Mi Flash |
If the phone doesn't turn on after the reset, the firmware may be damaged, in which case only flashing through Fastboot (described in the next section) will help.

Method 3: Fastboot Reset (for power users)
The method through Fastboot is the most radical and requires a computer with Xiaomi drivers installed and the Mi Flash Tool utility.
- π± The phone is not included in or included in Recovery.
- π§ Refuse the device after a failed update.
- π You need to unlock the bootloader (bootloader).
Step-by-step:
- Download and install: Mi Flash Tool (the official utility from Xiaomi), ADB and Fastboot drivers (part of the Android SDK), firmware for Redmi 6 Pro (choose the Fastboot version, not Recovery version).

Once the firmware is in place, the phone will automatically restart. The first turn on can take up to 15 minutes - don't interrupt the process!
1. Reinstall drivers manually through Device Manager (select Android Bootloader Interface).
2. Use another USB-cable (preferably original).
3. Run the utility on behalf of the administrator.-->

What to do after resetting: setup and recovery of data
After the successful reset of the Redmi 6 Pro, the initial setup will be performed.
- π Select the language and region (we recommend Russia for the correct operation of services).
- πΆ Connect to Wi-Fi (required for recovery from the cloud).
- π Enter Mi Account details (if tied before reset).
- π± Recover data from backup (Mi Cloud or Google).
If you sell a phone, don't restore your Mi Account - the new owner has to set up the device from scratch, otherwise they won't be able to use the smartphone because of the Mi Account Lock.
To recover data:
- If you backed up through Mi Cloud: Go to Settings β Mi β Mi Cloud β Data Recovery. Select the latest copy and confirm the recovery.
- If you have used a Google account: When you first turn on, select Copy data from your Android device. Enter Google data - contacts, calendar and some settings will be restored automatically.

Common Resetting Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even when following the instructions, users often encounter problems, and consider common mistakes and their solutions:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| "This device is locked" after resetting | Mi Account Lock is activated (the phone is linked to the Mi Account). | Enter the login and password from the account that was linked before the reset. If you forgot, restore access to account.xiaomi.com. |
| phone is stuck on startup MI logo after reset | Damage to system files or incompatible firmware. | Swipe the device through Fastboot (see Method 3). |
| Recovery won't open | Faulty buttons or damaged software. | Try another way to log in to Recovery (see spoiler in Method 2). If it doesn't work, use Fastboot. |
| The error "Can't mount /data" in Recovery | The file system is damaged. | Select Wipe Data β Format Data in Recovery (this will delete everything, including internal memory!). |
If your fingerprint or facial recognition stops working after the reset, go to Settings β Passwords and security and reset the biometrics. This data is stored in a secure partition and reset with Wipe Data.
Another common problem is losing IMEI after resetting via Fastboot. If your mobile signal is missing, check the IMEI by typing *#06#. If the number is zeros, you will need to restore using Engineer Mode or NVRAM firmware.

How to Reset Redmi 6 Pro If You Forgot Your pattern lock or Password
If you have forgotten the pattern lock, PIN-code or password from the lock screen, you can reset them without losing data - but only if two conditions are met:

- π You have access to a Mi or Google account linked to your device.
Methods of unlocking:
- Through Mi Account (if tied): On the lock screen, click Forgot your password?. Select Log in via Mi Account and enter your login/password. Create a new pattern lock or password.
- Through Google Account (if linked): On the lock screen, enter the wrong password 5 times until the Forgotten pattern lock appears?. Enter the data from the Google account that was synced to the phone.
- Using Find Device: Go to i.mi.com and log in. Select your Redmi 6 Pro from the device list. Click Delete Data, this will reset the phone to factory settings (data will be lost!).
If neither method works, then you only have to reset hard through Recovery or Fastboot (see Methods 2 and 3).
β οΈ Note: On the Redmi 6 Pro with unlocked bootloader and custom firmware (like LineageOS), standard unlock methods may not work.
