When you need to reset your Xiaomi TV and what it gives
Resetting Xiaomi TVs to factory settings is a radical but effective way to bring the device back to work, most often when the TV is โgluttingโ: slowly switching channels, spontaneously turning off or hanging on the Mi TV logo. But before you hit the โResetโ button, itโs worthwhile to see if this procedure solves your problem.
Factory reset deletes all user data: stored Wi-Fi networks, accounts (including Mi Account), image and sound settings, installed applications. However, it does not affect the firmware version or remove system updates. If your Xiaomi Mi TV 4S, Mi TV 5 Pro or other model began to perform worse after the update, the reset will not return the old firmware, but only clean the settings.
Typical situations where a dump is justified:
- ๐ The TV is cyclically rebooted or hangs on the screensaver
- ๐ต It does not connect to Wi-Fi, although the router works properly
- ๐ The sound or image disappears with the correct connections
- ๐ซ Forgot the password from parental control or Mi Account
- ๐ฆ Plan to sell/give TV and want to delete personal data
If the problem is physical damage (for example, it does not work) HDMI-It's not going to help you, it's going to be a port or a broken matrix, it's not going to help you -- you need repairs, it's also useless to drop the TV when you have hardware failures when it doesn't turn on at all.
Method 1: Reset via the settings menu (the safest)
If the TV is turned on and responsive to the remote, use this method. It is suitable for all Xiaomi models on Android TV (including Mi TV 4A, Mi TV 5, Mi TV Q1/Q2, etc.). The main advantage is to maintain the current firmware and minimize the risk of errors.
Instructions:
- Press the Settings button (โ๏ธ) remote.
- Go to Settings โ Device โ Reset (or Settings โ System โ Additional โ Reset on older versions).
- Select Reset settings to factory.
- Enter. PIN-code (by default 0000 or 1234 if you have not changed it).
- Confirm the action by pressing OK.
It takes 3-5 minutes, and the TV will restart and suggest that you configure it as new, and don't turn off the power during the reset, which can damage the system files.
Make sure the TV is connected to 220B
Record or photograph the current image/sound settings
Disable external devices (configures, sound panels)
Prepare data for Wi-Fi and Mi Account login (if used)
-->
โ ๏ธ Note: On some models (Mi) TV 4S 55" et al.) after reset, you may need to re-activate Mi Account to unlock Smart features TV. If you do not remember your account details, link another email or phone in advance.
Method 2: Hardware reset buttons on the body (if the remote does not work)
If the TV doesnโt respond to the remote or freezes on the logo, use the physical buttons on the back. This method works on all Xiaomi Mi TVs except the newest models (for example, Mi TV Q2 2023, where buttons may be missing).
Algorithm of action:
- Find the Power and Joystick buttons on the back, which are usually located next to HDMI ports.
- Turn off the TV with the Power button (hold on for 3 seconds if it doesn't respond).
- Press and hold Joystick down (โ) + Power button at the same time.
- Hold for 10-15 seconds until the recovery menu (recavery) appears.
- In the menu, use the joystick to select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm.
If there is no joystick (as on the Mi TV P1), use the combination:
Power + Volume up (Volume +)Hold for 10 seconds until the indicator lights up.
| Xiaomi model | Reset buttons | Retention time |
|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4A/4S | Joystick โ + Power | 10-12 sec. |
| Mi TV 5/5 Pro | Volume + + Power | 8-10 sec. |
| Mi TV Q1/Q2 | Joystick โ + Power | 15 seconds |
| Mi TV P1 | Volume โ + Power | 12 seconds |
โ ๏ธ Note: On Google models TV (Like Mi. TV Q2 2023) A hardware reset may block access to certain features before you log in to the Mi Account previously associated with the device. If you do not remember your account details, contact Xiaomi support in advance.
Method 3: Reset via ADB (for advanced users)
If the TV is turned on but the settings menu is not available (for example, due to a launcher failure), you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires a PC and basic command line knowledge.
What you need:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux
- ๐ USB-cable (Micro-USB or Type-C, depending on the TV model)
- ๐ฅ Utility. ADB Tools by Google
- ๐ง On-set debugging mode on the TV (if not turned on โ the method will not work)
Step-by-step:
- Connect the TV to the PC via USB-port (usually located on the back panel).
- Open the command line (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux) and type: adb devices If you have a device, go ahead. If not, check the drivers or cable.
- Reset command: Adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.FACTORY_RESET
- Confirm the action on the TV screen (if you receive a request).
If USB debugging was not enabled in advance, activate it via the service menu:
- On the remote, tap sequentially: Menu โ Settings โ All Settings โ General โ About.
- Find the Build line and click on it 7 times in a row.
- Go back to Settings โ For developers and enable USB debugging.
adb connect [IP- address television]:5555
IP You can find out in the settings of the network on TV.-->
Method 4: Reset via service menu (hidden mode)
Xiaomi TVs have a hidden service menu that allows you to reset without logging into the main settings, a method that is useful if the launcher does not start or the screen does not respond to taps.
How to open the service menu:
- Turn off the TV with a button on the remote.
- Press and hold at the same time: Menu + Volume โ + Power (on the remote and power button on the case).
- Hold on for 5-7 seconds until a menu labeled Factory Menu appears.
- With Volume ยฑ, select Clear eMMC or Factory Reset.
- Confirm the choice with the OK or Power button.
Warnings:
- โ ๏ธ Clear eMMC removes all data, including app cache and temporary files. This can help if the TV is slowing down due to overcrowded memory.
- โ ๏ธ Do not change other options in the service menu (for example, Backlight or Panel Test) โ this can lead to incorrect screen performance.

Method 5: Reset via Mi Account (remotely)
If you've linked a TV to your Mi Account, you can try resetting it remotely via a web interface, which doesn't work on all models and requires that the device be connected to the Internet.
Instructions:
- Go to the Mi Account website and log in.
- In the Devices section, find your TV (e.g. Mi TV 4S 55).
- Press three points (โฎ) next to the device and select Remove the device or Reset settings.
- Confirm the action by SMS or email.
Limitations of the method:
- ๐ด It only works if the TV is online (connected to the TV). Wi-Fi/Ethernet).
- ๐ด Not all models support remote reset (e.g. Mi). TV A Pro may not react).
- ๐ด After the reset, you may need to re-activate through your Mi Account.
If the TV doesnโt appear in the list of devices, check:
- ๐ Internet connection (reboot router).
- ๐ Account binding in TV settings (Settings) โ Account and security).
- ๐ Update of firmware (outdated versions may not support synchronization).

- Choice of language and region.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Sign in to Mi Account (if required).
- Channel settings (for TV with tuner).
