Changing the font on Xiaomi smartphones is a popular way to personalize, but sometimes users are faced with the need to return the standard settings. The reasons can be different from the failed MIUI update, which knocked down the parameters, to accidentally installing a third-party font through the themes. In some cases, the text becomes unreadable due to failures in the system files, and in others, you just want to return the usual look of the interface.
In this article, we will look at all the current methods of resetting fonts on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices, including the models from 2023-2026. From simple settings in the theme menu to manually delete files via ADB, you will find a solution for even the most difficult cases, and we will pay special attention to the problems after the MIUI 14/15 updates, when system fonts can be replaced with incorrect versions.
1. Reset font through theme settings
The fastest and safest way is to use the built-in MIUI tools, which works on 90% of devices and does not require superuser rights, but is suitable for cases where the font has been changed through a standard theme menu.
Open the Themes app (Brush icon) and go to Fonts, where you'll see a list of options available, including the standard Mi Sans (or Roboto on some models). If there's no reset button, try:
- π Click on the current font and select Default or Standard
- π Restart the device β sometimes changes are only applied after rebooting
- π± Check for updates in Settings β The phone. β Updating the system
π‘
If there is no standard font list, try changing the subject to Basic (usually first on the list) and this often automatically returns system fonts.
Some firmware (e.g. MIUI Global for the European region) may not have a font section, in which case use alternative methods from the following sections.
2. Reset all personalization settings
If changing the font was part of a comprehensive theme, simply resetting the font menu may not be enough, in which case a complete reset of personalization settings without deleting user data will help.
Go to Settings β Additional β Reset and select Reset Personalization Settings. This item will delete:
- π¨ All the themes and wallpapers used
- π€ Custom fonts and icon styles
- ποΈ Settings of always-on display (AOD)
Make sure that important wallpaper is saved in the gallery
Remember the current AOD settings (if you use them)
Make sure you have a backup of your contacts.
Connect the device to charging (the process may take time) 1-2 minute)-->
Once reset, the device will reboot and all system fonts will return to factory settings, a technique particularly effective for POCO F5 and Redmi Note 12 devices, where font problems often occur after custom themes are applied.
β οΈ Attention: On some firmware MIUI China may not have the "Reset personalization" clause. ADB section 5.
3. Remove third-party fonts through the file manager
When a font has been installed through a third-party APK (e.g., iFont or FontFix), its files can remain in the system even after the application is deleted. These files are usually stored in the /system/fonts or /data/fonts folder.
For their removal:
- Install a file manager with access to root folders (e.g. Solid Explorer or FX File Explorer)
- Go to /data/fonts and delete all files with the.ttf or.otf extension, except system files.
- Clear the app cache Topics in Settings β Apps β Application Management
- Reset the device
How to distinguish system fonts from user fonts?
Be careful: removing system fonts can lead to a bootloop, if youβre not sure, skip this method and use ADB.
4. Recovery through safe mode
If the device becomes unstable after changing the font (lacks, applications crash), try booting in Safe Mode. This will turn off all third-party apps and fonts, allowing you to return the standard settings.
To enter safe mode:
- Press the power button before the turn off menu appears
- Press and hold the item Turn off (or turn off power)
- In the window that appears, confirm the transition to safe mode.
In safe mode:
- π§ Remove all applications to change fonts
- π Through the file manager, check the folders /data/fonts and /sdcard/fonts
- π Restart the device in normal mode
Once a week.
Rarely, just for experimentation.
Never changed.
Only when the settings are lost
Another option-->
This method is particularly useful for Xiaomi 13/14 series devices, where font problems are often associated with application conflicts.
5. Reset font through ADB (for power users)
If standard methods donβt work, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires a computer and enabled USB debugging, but allows you to accurately return system fonts.
Instructions:
- Enable USB Debugging in Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (click 7 times) β More β For Developers
- Connect the device to the PC and execute the command: adb shell pm clear com.android.themes
- For a complete reset, do: adb shell pm clear com.miui.home
- Reset the device
π‘
The pm clear command resets the application settings to the factory, but does not delete it. This is safer than manually deleting font files.
For devices with MIUI 15, an additional command may be required:
adb shell settings put secure sys_ui_theme_default 1On some firmware Xiaomi.eu after ADB-Reset requires re-activation of the themes through the Mi Account. If the font is not returned, check for system updates.
Complete reset of the device (last option)
If none of these methods work, then you have to have a hard reset, which is a radical solution that will bring all the settings back to the factory, including the fonts.
- π± Make a backup copy through Settings β Additionally. β Backup
- π Remember the Mi Account details (required to unlock after resetting)
- π Save important files to your PC or cloud
For discharge:
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings
- Choose to erase all data (or delete everything)
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot
| Model of the device | Time to reset | Does a Mi Account Require? | Does the fonts restore the fonts? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 | 3-5 minutes | Yes. | 100% |
| POCO X5 Pro | 4-6 minutes | Yes. | 100% |
| Xiaomi 13 Lite | 2-4 minutes | Yes. | 100% |
| Xiaomi Pad 6 | 5-7 minutes | No. | 100% |
β οΈ Warning: Devices with a locked bootloader (Xiaomi for the Chinese market) may need to be linked to the Mi Account that was on the device before the reset after the reset. Without this data, the phone will become a brick".
