How to Reset Your Password on Xiaomi Phone: From Mi Account to Hard Reset

Forgot the pattern lock or PIN-The situation is familiar to many: the phone is locked after several failed attempts to enter, and access to data becomes impossible. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several official and informal ways to unlock – from restore via Mi Account to completely reset settings through Recovery Mode.

1 Unlocking through Mi Account (official method)

The safest method is to use a Xiaomi account, which works if:

• 📱 The phone is connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network).
• 🔑 Remember the username and password from Mi Account.
• 🔄 The device previously activated synchronization with the account.

After 5 failed attempts to enter the password, the button Forgot password? (or Forgot password?) will appear on the screen.

1. Enter the email or phone number associated with the Mi Account.
2. Confirm your identity via SMS or email (the code will come to the specified contact).
3. Create a new password or pattern lock.

2. Reset password via Recovery Mode (without loss of data)

Instructions:

1. Turn off the phone with a long press of the power button.
2. Press the combination of Loudness up + Power and hold for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
3. From the Recovery menu, select the language (usually English or Chinese).

If previous methods didn’t work, you can try resetting your password via Fastboot or ADB. This method is suitable for users who have USB debugging enabled on their phone (Developers section).

Procedure:

1. Install ADB and Fastboot Tools on PC.

🔹 This method only works when the phone has an active internet connection. If Wi-Fi or mobile network is disabled, Find Device will not be able to connect to Xiaomi servers.

5.Hard Reset – a last resort

If no other method has worked, you only have to reset your phone completely, and this method removes all your phone data, including photos, contacts and apps.
