How to reset your password to Xiaomi Redmi 9 if you forget your pattern lock PIN-code

The forgotten password on Xiaomi Redmi 9 is a situation that even experienced users face. The smartphone is blocked after several failed attempts to enter, and access to photos, messages and applications is closed. Fortunately, there are several official and informal ways to unlock, but each of them has its own nuances.

In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of resetting passwords on Redmi 9 (including Redmi 9A/9C/9T models), from the simplest to the most technically complex. It is important to understand that some methods will lead to complete loss of data, so first try options with minimal risks. Also note that if the device is enabled with Find My Device or Mi Account is tied, the chances of recovering access without reset are much higher.

Before you start, check:

• 🔋 Battery level (minimum 30% to avoid shutdown during process).
• 📶 Availability of a backup of data (if previously synced with Mi Cloud or Google Account).
• 🔧 Access to a computer with drivers installed ADB/Fastboot (It will be necessary for advanced methods).

If you are not sure about your technical skills, it is better to contact the Xiaomi service center - independent manipulation of the firmware can lead to loss of warranty or "bricking" of the device.

1 Unlocking through Mi Account (official method)

The safest method is if you have previously linked your device to a Xiaomi account, which works even when the screen is locked, but requires access to the Internet (via Wi-Fi or mobile network).

Instructions:

1. On the locked screen of Redmi 9, enter any password / pattern lock 5 times in a row until the message “Forgot your password?” appears.
2. Tap that on the label. → Select "Unblock with Mi Account".
3. Enter the username and password from your Xiaomi account (the same one used for sync).

2.Reset via Recovery Mode (complete data cleanup)

If Mi Account is not tied or you don’t remember the login details, you will be hard reset via Recovery mode, which will delete all data on the device, including photos, apps and settings.

Step-by-step:

1. Turn off Redmi 9 with a long hold on the power button.
2. Press the Power button + Volume up simultaneously and hold for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
3. Release the buttons – you will be taken to the Recovery Mode menu (manage by the volume and power buttons).
4. Select the option "Wipe Data" → "Wipe All Data".
5. Confirm the action by choosing "Confirm".
6. After the reset is complete, select "Reboot" to reboot.

EDL (Emergency Download Mode) for "brick" devices

This is an extreme method where other methods have failed, suitable for devices that don't turn on, that are stuck on the Mi logo or that have damaged firmware, requires a special EDL cable (or short circuit of the contacts on the board) and firmware for Redmi 9.

Attention! The wrong EDL actions can permanently bring the phone down, a method only recommended for experienced users or service engineers.
