Forgot the data from the Mi Account and can not unlock Xiaomi? The situation is familiar to many: the smartphone asks for a username and password after resetting, but you do not remember any phone number or mail. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways to restore access, from official methods through Xiaomi support to alternative solutions for power users.
Compounding the problem, since 2021, the company has tightened its security policy: without proof of identity, it is almost impossible to unlock a device through standard channels, but there are workarounds β some require technical skills, others are available even to beginners, the main thing is to act consistently and not aggravate the situation with the wrong actions.
Before you start resetting, make sure you really lose access to the Mi Account, not the device itself. PIN-code is another problem that can be solved through Hard Reset (but note that it will require the user to enter your account after that), and check if the phone is connected to another Wi-Fi network or if the device is connected to a different Wi-Fi network. SIM-card β sometimes it helps to access backups of passwords.
1.Official Recovery Through Xiaomi Support
The most legal, but also the most difficult way is to contact Xiaomi Support, which provides the ability to restore access, provided that you confirm ownership of the device.
- π Check or invoice for the purchase of a smartphone (mandatory with an indication of the IMEI).
- π± IMEI Devices (can be recognized through a box, battery sticker or command *#06# on a locked phone).
- π Identity document (passport, rights).
- π§ Alternative email for communication (not the one linked to your account).
The recovery process takes 3 to 30 days, depending on customer service workloads. In 2026, Xiaomi implemented additional verification through video identification, so be prepared for an online meeting with the operator.
β οΈ Warning: If you bought the phone with your hands, chances of recovery are minimal. Xiaomi does not work with resellers and requires original documents from the first owner.
To start the process, go to the official Mi Account website and select Need Help β Account Recovery. Fill out the form, attach scans of documents and wait for a response. In some cases, support may request a photo of a smartphone box or even a video of an IMEI demonstration on the device.

If you have emails from Xiaomi (such as Mi Store purchase notifications), check their headers β sometimes there is a snippet of email linked to your account.
2. Reset via Mi Unlock Tool (to unlock the bootloader)
This method is suitable if you have previously unlocked the bootloader on your Xiaomi, in which case you can use the Mi Unlock Tool to reset your account. Importantly, the method only works on devices with the bootloader unlocked (check this through Fastboot mode).
Instructions:
- Download the official Mi Unlock Tool.
- Turn the phone into Fastboot mode (turn off the device, then press Volume Down + Power).
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and launch the utility.
- Sign in to your Mi Account through the program (if you remember the password) or select the option Remove Account.
If the bootloader is locked, the utility will give you a "Couldn't unlock" error, in which case you will have to use other methods.

3.Use of EDL-The mode (for experienced users)
EDL (Emergency Download Mode) is a firmware emergency mode that allows you to reflash your device without having to lock your account. It's a risky method, if you do the wrong thing, you can turn your smartphone into a brick.
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows and Qualcomm drivers installed HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
- π Firmware for your model (download only from trusted sources, such as Xiaomi Firmware Updater).
- π§ Mi Flash Tool or QFil.
Step-by-step:
- Turn off your phone and turn it into EDL: For Qualcomm: Press Volume Up + Volume Down + Power (some models require pre-closing test points on the board). For MediaTek: use adb reboot edl (if USB debugging is enabled).

4. Bypassing the lock through TWRP (castomic reduction)
If your Xiaomi has custom recovery (TWRP), you can manually delete your account files, and this only works on devices with an unlocked bootloader and a TWRP installed.
Instructions:
- Boot into TWRP mode (clip Volume Up + Power when the phone is off).
- Go to Advanced β File Manager.
- Delete the following files and folders: /data/system/mi_account.db /data/system/mi_account_details.xml /data/data/com.xiaomi.account/
- Reset the device.
We also recommend that you avoid using the same password for your Mi Account and other services, and if your email is hacked, attackers can access your associated Xiaomi devices.

In the Mi Account settings, you have Trusted Devices, so add your computer or tablet to your account, which will make it easier to restore access if only your phone is locked.
