Forgot the password from Mi-account and can not unlock the Xiaomi smartphone after reset? Or bought a used device with someone else's link to the account? The situation is familiar to thousands of users - the manufacturer rigidly binds devices to accounts, and the standard password recovery through the email/SMS In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to bypass the lock, including official and technical methods.
It's important to understand that resetting a Mi-account without a password is not always legal. If the phone is not yours (stolen, found), it's better to return it to the owner or contact the police. For personal devices or legally purchased used gadgets, read further. We tested the methods on Redmi Note 12 Pro+, POCO X5 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra and older devices on MIUI 14/15.
Why Xiaomi is blocking the device after a reset
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) works differently in Xiaomi than in Samsung or Google, and even after a full reset via Recovery, the phone requires you to enter the username and password from the last Mi-account tied, which is designed to protect against theft, but creates problems with:
- π Buying a used phone with an untied seller account
- π Loss of access to email/SMS password-recovery
- π± Reset settings through Hard Reset without detachment of account
- π οΈ Unofficial firmware, after which the phone asks for an old account
Since 2021, Xiaomi has tightened its policy: on new models (for example, Redmi Note 13 Pro or Xiaomi 14), bypassing via Fastboot or EDL requires authorization in the service center. Old devices (up to MIUI 12) can be unlocked yourself β more about this below.
Method 1: Officially Recovery of Mi-account Password
If your phone is yours but you have forgotten your password, try standard recovery methods first.
- Go to the recovery page: account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword.
- Enter the linked email or phone number.
- Select the confirmation method: π§ Code on email (if mail is available) π± SMS number-bound π Backup email (if configured)
Create a new password and confirm the change.
If your email/number is not available, try:
- π Remember backup email (indicated at registration)
- π Check the Spam folder in your mail β sometimes emails from Xiaomi get there
- π Contact Xiaomi with proof of ownership of the device (checks, box with the device) IMEI)
β οΈ Note: If an account was registered through Facebook or Google, access can only be restored through these services. Xiaomi does not provide alternative ways for social networks.

If you want to reset your password, you can try using your browser in incognito or VPN mode (such as the US or Germany), and sometimes Xiaomi servers block IP due to suspicious activity.
Method 2: Fastboot Reset (for models up to 2021)
This method works on devices up to MIUI 12.5 (e.g. Redmi Note 9 Pro, POCO X3 NFC, Mi 10T). On new smartphones (MIUI 13+), it is blocked - you will need authorization in the service center.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows/Linux
- π± USB-cable (original)
- π οΈ The Mi Flash Tool (Download)
- π§ Firmware for your model (download only from the official website)
Step-by-step:
- Turn off the phone. Press Volume down + Power to enter the Fastboot.
- Connect the device to a PC. Android Bootloader Interface should appear in the Device Manager.
- Unpack the firmware in a folder without Cyrillic (for example, C:\MIUI\).
- Launch the Mi Flash Tool, press Select and specify the path to the firmware folder.
- Select Clean All mode and press Flash.
- Wait for the completion (5-10 minutes). the phone will reboot without linking to the account.
Make sure the phone model is older than 2021|Download firmware specifically for your modification (for example, Redmi Note 10 Pro - sweet, not sweetin)|Disable the antivirus (it can block the Mi Flash Tool)|Charge your phone at least 50 times%|Use the back. USB-port on PC (front may not provide enough power)-->
β οΈ Note: On some models (POCO F3, Mi 11 Lite) after reset via Fastboot, you may get an error "This device is locked". In this case, you will need to unlock the bootloader through the official Xiaomi service (you need an account associated with the phone).
| Model phone | Does it support Fastboot reset? | Do you need to unlock the bootloader? |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 8 Pro | β Yes. | β No. |
| POCO X3 NFC | β Yes. | β οΈ Sometimes (depending on the version) MIUI) |
| Mi 9T Pro | β Yes. | β No. |
| Redmi Note 11 Pro+ | β No (FRP 2.0) | β Yes. |
| Xiaomi 12 | β No. | β Yes (only through the service center) |
Method 3: Bypass ADB (for unlocked bootloader)
If the bootloader unlocked is already unlocked on the phone, you can remove the link to the account via ADB. The method works on MIUI 12-14, but requires enabled debugging over USB.
Important: If debugging is off, this method won't work, in which case you move on to Method 4.
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your PC and enable USB Debugging (Settings β About Phone β MIUI version β press 7 times, then go back to Additional Settings β For Developers).
- Download. ADB Tools and unpack in C:\adb\.
- Open the command prompt in this folder (Shift + PCM β Open the PowerShell window here).
- Enter the commands in turn: adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.xiaomi.account pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.cloudservice reboot
- After the reboot, the phone will not require a password from the Mi-account.
What if the ADB canβt see the device?
In the models with MIUI 14+ (Xiaomi 13, Redmi Note 12 may not work due to security FRP 3.0. In such a case, a discharge through EDL (Only for experienced users).
Method 4: Recovery Reset (for some models)
On older devices (Redmi 5/6/7 series, Mi A1/A2), you can try resetting your account via Recovery. On new smartphones, this method does not work β after the reset, the lock will remain.
How to check:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press Volume Up + Power to enter Recovery.
- If you have Wipe & Reset β Remove Mi Account, select it.
- Confirm the reset. There will be no lockdown after the reset.
If you don't have a Remove Mi Account, it's not a good option. Don't try to reset it with Wipe Data, it won't delete the account link!
π‘
Recovery only works on devices until 2019, and on newer models (MIUI 12+), this method is useless and can result in a complete lock of the phone (βThis device is lockedβ).
Method 5: Contact Xiaomi Service Center
If none of the above has worked, the official way is to contact Xiaomi Service Center, which is the only legal way to reset your account on new models (MIUI 13/14/15).
What will be required:
- π Check or warranty card (proof of purchase)
- π¦ Phone box (it is indicated on it) IMEI)
- π Passport holder (if the phone is in your name)
- π± The phone itself (discharged at least 20 times%)
How much and how much to wait:
| Country. | Cost (ruble/tenge/hryvnia) | Time limit for implementation |
|---|---|---|
| Russia | 1 500 β 3 000 β½ | 1-3 days |
| Kazakhstan | 5 000 β 10 000 βΈ | 2-5 days |
| Ukraine (unofficial services) | 800 β 1 500 β΄ | 1-7 days |
| Belarus | 30 β 60 BYN | 3-10 days |
If the phone is bought by hand and the previous owner has not untied the account, the service center can refuse to unlock, in which case only a search for the seller and a request to remove the device from his Mi-account through account.xiaomi.com remains.
