Mi Account passwords are one of the most common problems Xiaomi smartphone owners have, which can turn a device into a brick. The brand's security system is so tight that even after resetting the settings through Recovery, the phone requires you to enter your account details. If you can't remember your password and you lose access to your mail or phone number, standard recovery methods won't help.
On the 4PDA forum and in thematic communities, users share dozens of ways to bypass locks, from official (via Xiaomi support) to βgrayβ (using Fastboot and EDL modes). However, not all of them work on modern models with a closed bootloader and after the MIUI 14/15 updates. In this article, we have collected current methods for 2026, which are confirmed by users and experts, and also honestly tell about the risks of each of them.
We warn you right away that some things require technical skills, and the wrong things can permanently shut your phone down. If you're not sure about your abilities, go to the service center. But if you're willing to take a chance, read on.
1.Official way: Restoring access through Xiaomi support
The safest, but also the longest, method is to contact Xiaomiβs support team, which is suitable if you have:
- π Documents confirming the purchase (check, warranty card, box with IMEI).
- π§ Access to the mail or phone number associated with your account (even if your password is forgotten).
- π Readiness to wait from 3 days to 2 weeks (depending on the workload).
First, try to restore the password yourself:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword recovery page.
- Enter the email or phone number associated with the account.
- If you have access to the mail / number, follow the instructions in the letter or SMS.
- If you do not have access, click βNo access to this email/number?β and fill out the support form.
In the form, please indicate:
- π IMEI phone (you can find out on the box or via the command *#06# on another device).
- π Date of purchase and place (shop, marketplace).
- πΈ Photo of the check or guarantee card (if any).
β οΈ Note: Xiaomi support can refuse to unlock if the phone was bought with hands or the data does not match.
2. Unlock via Fastboot mode (for models with unlocked bootloader)
This method is suitable for phones that have previously unlocked a bootloader (for example, for custom software firmware). If the bootloader is locked, this method will not work.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power button + Volume down before the Fastboot logo appears.
- Connect the device to the PC and type the command in ADB: fastboot oem device-info
- If the answer is Device unlocked: true, the bootloader is unlocked.
To unlock, you will need:
- π₯οΈ A computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and ADB/Fastboot.
- π Cable USB (preferably original).
- π₯ Firmware for your model (download at xiaomifirmwareupdater.com).
Instructions:
Download the firmware for your model|Install ADB and Fastboot on PC|Connect your phone to Fastboot mode|Disable antivirus (can block commands)-->
- Unpack the firmware in the folder with ADB.
- Open the command line in this folder (Shift + PCM β Open the command window).
- Type in the following commands: fastboot flash boot.img fastboot flash recovery.img fastboot flash recovery system.img fastboot erase userdata fastboot reboot
- After the reboot, the phone will be reset to factory settings without being tied to the Mi Account.
β οΈ Note: This method does not work on models with a locked bootloader after 2021 year of release (for example, Redmi Note) 11/12, POCO X4/X5). They require a regime. EDL.
3. Unlock through EDL mode (for locked bootloaders)
EDL (Emergency Download Mode) is a firmware emergency mode that allows you to bypass locks even on new models.
- π§ Special cable. EDL (or the ability to do it yourself).
- π» Mi Flash Tool and Firmware for Your Model.
- π Authorized Xiaomi Account (for some models).
4PDA has themes with ready-made firmware and instructions for popular models (for example, the section on EDL).
- Download the firmware. EDL For example, for your model (Redmi Note) 10 Pro β sweet_global_images...).
- Install the Qualcomm 9008 driver (required for phone recognition in EDL mode).
- Connect the phone to a PC with a clamped button combination (it is different for different models, check on the forum).
- Start the Mi Flash Tool, select the firmware and press Flash.
Once the firmware is in place, the phone will restart in its clean state without being tied to the Mi Account, but there are risks:
- π¨ Loss of loss IMEI (The phone won't catch the network).
- π Battery problems (if the process is interrupted).
- π Blocking Xiaomi account (if you use unofficial firmware).
What to do if IMEI is missing after EDL?
4.Use of MIUI vulnerabilities (for older versions)
Before MIUI 12, there were vulnerabilities in the system that allowed you to bypass the lock Mi Account without firmware, for example, through:
- π Exploitation in Recovery (for the MIUI 10/11).
- π± Reset via emergency call menu (worked on Redmi) 4X/5A).
- π§ ADB-commands to delete account files.
For example, MIUI 11 was possible to:
- Load into Recovery (Nutrition + Volume Up).
- Select Connect with MI Assistant (Connect to PC).
- Through ADB Execution: Adb shell rm /data/system/mi_account*
- Reboot the phone.
But in MIUI 12 and later, these methods are closed, and 4PDA sometimes has new exploits, but they get patched quickly with updates, like 2023, where we temporarily worked bypassing:
- π‘ Substitution IMEI (requires root rights).
- π Reverse to the old version MIUI (brick-and-brick).
β οΈ Warning: Using vulnerabilities could lead to a permanent lock on the phone if Xiaomi detects tampering. On new models (Redmi Note 12)+, POCO F5) These methods don't work.
π‘
Before trying to bypass the lock, check the MIUI version in Recovery mode. If the version is newer than 12.5, the chances of success are minimal.
5. Alternative methods: service centers and paid services
If independent attempts have not been successful, two options remain:
| Method | Cost | Timeline | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Xiaomi service | Free (on confirmation of purchase) | 1-2 weeks | They can refuse without a check. |
| Unofficial services (unblocking via EDL) | 1 500β5 000 β½ | 1-3 days | Risk of losing IMEI or data |
| Buying a βcleanβ IMEI on forums | 500β2 000 β½ | 1 day | High risk of fraud |
| Firmware via 4PDA (self) | Free of charge. | 2-4 hours | Possible brick device |
4PDA and Avito often offer turnkey unlocking services, but be careful:
- π΅οΈ Check reviews about the master (many scammers among the "unblockersΒ»).
- π³ Donβt pay in advance (risk of being left without money and phone).
- π± Check if the data will be saved (usually when unlocked, a complete reset is made).
If the phone is expensive (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra or POCO F5 Pro), it is better to contact an authorized service. For budget models (Redmi A2, POCO M5) you can take a chance and try unlocking yourself.
6.How to avoid blocking in the future: tips from 4PDA
To avoid the problem again, follow the following simple rules:
- π Tie up the backup. email/number.
- π Save your password in the manager (e.g. Bitwarden or Google Passwords).
- π± Disable Mi Account lock in settings (unless phone is stolen):
Settings β Xiaomi Account β Security β Devices β [Your Phone] β Delete AccountIf you are selling or transferring your phone:
- π Make a complete reset through Settings β The phone. β Resetting settings.
- π Delete your Xiaomi account before reset (otherwise, the new owner will not be able to activate the device).
- π« Do not buy phones from your hands without resetting β there is a high risk of getting a locked device.
