The blocked Mi Account on Xiaomi is one of the most common problems that users face after resetting, buying a used device or losing access to an account. The lock system is tied to a hardware device identifier (IMEI), so even flashing it doesn’t always help bypass protection. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of unlocking, including official tools from Xiaomi and alternative solutions for cases when standard methods do not work.
It's important to understand that Mi Account is not just an account to synchronize data, but a part of Xiaomi's security system that protects the device from theft. So the manufacturer deliberately complicates the unlocking process by requiring proof of ownership. If you bought the phone with your hands, the probability of successfully unlocking without the help of the previous owner is minimal, in which case you will have to contact the service center with purchase documents.
1. Official unlock through the Xiaomi website (if you remember the account details)
If you have access to an email or phone number linked to your Mi Account, you can unlock your device via a web interface, which works even if you forget your password, but remember your login.
Go to account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword, and the system will offer two options.
- 📧 Email recovery: an email will come to the mail with a link to reset your password.
- 📱 Reconstruction SMS — The confirmation code will be sent to the associated phone number, and please note that the number must be active and not changed.
Once you change your password, reset your phone — the lock should be removed automatically. If that doesn’t happen, check your Internet connection: the device must sync data with Xiaomi servers.

- Your device was linked to your account at least 72 hours ago.
- You can confirm the ownership (checks, boxes, documents).
- The phone has a developer mode enabled and USB debugging is allowed.
Download the utility from the official website: en.miui.com/unlock/. Install Xiaomi drivers for your model (for example, MiFlash for Redmi Note 10 Pro or POCO X3). Connect your phone to your PC in Fastboot mode (click Volume down + Power when the device is off).
Launch the Mi Unlock Tool, log in to your Mi Account and follow the instructions. The process can take up to 10 days - Xiaomi deliberately stretches the unlock to protect against fraud. If the utility gives an error "Couldn't unlock", check:

- 📱 Compatibility of the phone model and utility version.
- ⏳ Has it been 72 hours since the last account was linked.

3. Alternative methods of unlocking (if the official methods do not work)
If you cannot restore access to Mi Account through standard methods, alternative solutions remain.

- ❌ Xiaomi blocks unlocking due to suspected theft.
One of the working methods is the use of EDL-Emergency Download Mode for bypassing the locking phone, which requires:
- 🖥️ PC with Qualcomm drivers installed HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
- 📂 Firmware for your model (for example, Fastboot) ROM for Redmi 9).
- 🔧 Mi Flash Tool or QFil for firmware in EDL.
The EDL firmware process is risky, and if you make a mistake, your phone can turn into a brick. If you're not sure about your skills, you should go to a service center.
- Put your phone into EDL mode (close contacts on the board or use the adb reboot edl command if debugging is enabled).
- Connect the device to the PC – Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 should appear in the Device Manager.
- Start the Mi Flash Tool, select the firmware and press Flash.

Resetting FRP will require:

- Put your phone in Fastboot mode (Loudness down + Power).
- Run the command to reset FRP: fastboot erase frp or for old models: fastboot erase persist
- Reboot the device with the command fastboot reboot.
If the phone still requires Mi Account data after resetting FRP, try flashing the device through the Mi Flash Tool with the clean all option.This method does not work on all models, but can help on devices with Qualcomm processors.
⚠️ Note: Fastboot erase frp and fastboot erase persist commands delete critical authorization data. IMEI Or sensor problems. Before you run, back up the persist partition if possible.
6.Buying a phone with a locked Mi Account: how to avoid problems
If you are planning to buy a used Xiaomi smartphone, be sure to check the Mi Account status before buying.
- 🔍 Ask the seller to untie the account with you: go to Settings → Xiaomi account → Get out.
- 📱 Check the lock status by ##4636## (Phone Information should display the status "Device unlocked" in the menu").
- 📄 Take a receipt of sale with indication IMEI and the seller's data - this will help in the service center.
- 🛒 Buy only from trusted sellers (for example, on Avito or Yule with a return guarantee).
If the seller refuses to untie the account or claims that "everything will be fine after the reset", this is a sure sign of fraud, and after buying such a phone, unlocking will cost more than saving on price.
Check the IMEI of the device on imei.info – if the phone is listed on the blacklist, it will not be possible to unlock it without contacting the police.
