A blocked Google account on Xiaomi’s smartphone is a problem that thousands of users face every day, and the reasons range from a banal forgotten password to FRP (Factory Reset Protection) protection triggered after resetting. Unlike other brands, Redmi, Poco and Mi phones have their own nuances of unlocking because of the features of MIUI firmware and integration with Google services.
This article will help you regain access to your device without losing data (if possible) or with minimal consequences, SMS, backup codes, and alternative methods for cases where standard options do not work. FRP — protection that is activated after resetting to factory settings on devices with Android 5.1 and later.
Before proceeding, make sure you have: (1) Access to the mail or phone associated with the account; (2) Backup recovery codes (if saved); (3) A spare phone or PC to verify identity.
If none of this is available, go straight to the FRP bypass or Mi Account reset sections.
1. Restoration of access through the official Google website
The easiest and safest way to do this is to use the password recovery tool on Google’s website, which is suitable if you remember the username (email) or phone associated with the account, but forgot the password. The algorithm works on all Xiaomi devices, regardless of the model (Redmi Note 12, Poco X5, Mi 11, etc.).
Step 1. On another device (PC, tablet, friend's phone), open accounts.google.com and select "Forgot your email or password?" Step 2. Enter the last email or phone you know associated with your account. If you don't remember, try options you might have used (such as workmail or an old number). Step 3. Google will suggest verifying your identity in one of the ways:
- 📧 Code to mail – if you have access to backup email.
- 📱 SMS or call - to the attached phone number.
- 🔑 Backup codes – if you have saved them (usually in notes or a file on a PC).
- 🕵️ Security issues – if they were set up (date of birth, maiden name of the mother, etc.).
Once you have successfully confirmed your password, enter it on a blocked Xiaomi, access will be restored. If this method does not work (for example, no access to mail / phone), go to the next section.
⚠️ If Google requests the last password you used when you restore it and you don’t remember it, don’t try to guess! After 5 failed attempts, your account can be blocked for 24 hours.
2 Unlocking through backup codes or trusted device
Google allows you to create backup codes (usually 10 pieces) in case of loss of access. If you have saved them (for example, in notes, on a flash drive or in a file on a PC), use them to unlock, and a trusted device — another phone or tablet on which you previously logged in will also help.
How to use backup codes: 1. On the lock screen, enter the wrong password 3-5 times until the option “Forgot the password?” appears. 2. Select “Other login method” → “Enter the backup code.” 3. Enter one of the saved codes (each code can only be used once!).
How to use a trusted device: 1. Take another phone/tablet where you previously logged in to this Google account. 2. Open myaccount.google.com and log in to your account. 3. Go to Security» → «Your devices" and find a locked Xiaomi. 4. Click "Delete" (if the device is marked as suspicious) or confirm it as trusted. 5. Return to the locked phone and try again to log in - the system may let you through without additional checks.
FRP (Factory Reset Protection) bypasses Xiaomi
If you reset Xiaomi to the factory settings (Hard Reset) and now see the message “Confirm Google account that was on this device”, then FRP protection worked. This is a standard feature of Android, which prevents the use of the phone after a reset without knowing the data of the previous owner. You can circumvent it in several ways, but on devices with MIUI 12+ and Android 11+, most vulnerabilities are closed – you will need a PC and special tools.
Method 1: Via Wi-Fi settings (for MIUI 10-12)
This method works on old firmware and allows you to add a new Google account bypassing the lock:
1.
FRP
2.
Add an account
3.
new
4.
Method 2: Using the PC and Mi FRP Tool
New devices (Redmi Note 11, Poco X4 and later) will require:
1.
Mi FRP Tool
Xiaomi FRP Bypass Tool
2.
Fastboot
Loudness down + Nutrition
3.
boot.img
4.
⚠️ Attention: Use of informal circumvention tools FRP This could result in a loss of warranty or a lockdown. IMEI (On devices with a locked bootloader. On Xiaomi with MediaTek processors (e.g. Redmi) 9A) The risk is higher than on Snapdragon.
☑️ Preparation for bypassing FRP
4. Unlock via Mi Account (for Xiaomi-based devices)
Many Xiaomi smartphones require a link to the company's Mi Account, which is their own account. If you forget Google's login and remember the Mi Account login/password, you can try unlocking the device through it, which works even with active FRP, but requires proof of identity.
Instructions: 1. On a locked phone, enter the wrong Google password 5 times until the option “Forgot your password?” appears 2. Select “Login via Mi Account” (if there is no such option, the method is not suitable). 3. Enter your email and password from Mi Account, then confirm via SMS or mail. 4. After successful login, the system will offer to reset the Google password or add a new account.
If you don’t remember Mi Account data, try to restore it to account.xiaomi.com, which requires access to a linked email or phone, and in extreme cases, you can contact Xiaomi with proof of ownership of the device (check, box, IMEI).
| Unlocking method | Required. | Works on | Risks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recovery through Google | Access to mail/telephone | All models. | No. |
| Standby codes | Save codes | All models. | No. |
| FRP bypass over Wi-Fi | MIUI 10–12 | Redmi Note 8/9, Mi A3 | Maybe it won't work. |
| Mi FRP Tool | PC, unlocked bootloader | New models (Android 11+) | Loss of warranty, IMEI block |
| Mi Account | Data from Xiaomi account | All models with MIUI | No. |
5.Reset via Recovery Mode (last chance)
If no one has helped, it will be hard to reset via Recovery Mode, which will remove all data from your phone, including photos, contacts and apps, but will return access to the device. Xiaomi with FRP will need to enter data from your previous Google account after reset, so use this method only if:
- 📱 You don't have important data on your phone;
- 🔓 You remember the Google account that was on the device;
- 🛠️ Ready for additional manipulations with FRP.
How to reset: 1. Turn off the phone. 2. Press Volume Up + Power for 10-15 seconds until the Mi.3 logo appears. From the Recovery menu, select "Wipe Data" → "Wipe All Data" (control - volume buttons, confirmation - power button). 4. After the reset, the phone will reboot and offer to configure it as new.
⚠️ Note: On devices with MediaTek-processors (Redmi) 9C, Poco C31) After reset, you may need to log in to your Mi Account before you even log in to Google, and if you don't remember the data, the phone will become a brick»!
What if your phone requires an old Google account?
6. Appeal for Google or Xiaomi
If the self-unblocking attempts fail, the only thing left to do is call for official support, and Google and Xiaomi have procedures to prove ownership, but they take time and paperwork.
How to contact Google: 1. Go to Google Account Support page. 2. Select Account Recovery → I need to do other things. 3. Fill out the form by specifying:
IMEI phone (you can find out on the box or through the code *#06#);
- Date of purchase (check or warranty card);
- Approximate time of last successful entry.
4.
How to contact Xiaomi: 1. Write to the support chat on mi.com/support. 2.
- Photo of the box with the serial number;
- Check or guarantee card;
- IMEI devices.
3.
Mi Account
💡
If you've bought a phone with your hands, try contacting the previous owner -- sometimes people forget to untie their Google account before selling it -- at least ask them for their unlock details or a check to call for support.
7.Prevention: How to avoid blocking in the future
To avoid having to deal with a blocked account again, follow the simple rules: 1. Save Google backup codes in a safe place (e.g., in an encrypted note or on a flash drive). 2. Link to your account several ways of recovery: mail, phone, backup email. 3. Configure trusted devices – add a second phone or tablet to your Google account. 4. Check which devices are linked to your Mi Account and Google account (Security section» → «Your devices»). 5. Before selling or resetting your phone, be sure to delete accounts in your settings (Settings) → Accounts. → Google/Mi Account → Delete).
If you often forget passwords, use password managers (like Bitwarden or 1Password) that store data encrypted and sync between devices. Mi Account allows two-factor authentication (2FA) to be enabled, making it harder for attackers to access, but requiring backup codes to be saved.
💡
Even if you unlock your phone, don’t ignore the security settings! MIUI particularly vulnerable FRP-locking up after a reset, so always untie your accounts before selling or transferring your phone.
