Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro is the flagship smartphone of 2019, which is still relevant thanks to the powerful hardware and support for updates. However, even such reliable devices sometimes hang, slow down or require a forced reboot. Unlike modern models with MIUI 14+, there are nuances: for example, the combination of buttons for hard reset is different from the new Redmi or POCO.
In this article, we will cover all the possible ways to reboot, including a soft restart through the menu, forced reset when hanging, and what to do if the screen does not respond to touch. We will also explore the unique feature of the Mi 9 Pro: why sometimes after a reboot communication disappears and how to fix it without losing data.
1. Soft reboot via menu (standard method)
If the smartphone responds to touch, but is unstable (brakes, warms, apps fly out), just perform a software reboot. This method is safe and does not affect user data.
Instructions:
- π± Hold the Power button (located on the right) for 2-3 seconds.
- π In the menu that appears, select Reboot (or Restart if the system is in English).
- β³ Wait 30 to 60 seconds β the device will turn off and on automatically.
If the Reboot item is missing (this happens on custom firmware), select Turn off, and after completely turning off the screen, hold the Power button for 5-7 seconds to turn on.
β οΈ Attention: On the Mi 9 Pro with MIUI 12 and older after a soft reboot, mobile communication may temporarily disappear.+. To restore the network, put the phone in flight mode for 10 seconds, then turn it off.
2. Forced reboot (if the phone freezes)
When the Mi 9 Pro doesnβt respond to touch, power button, or the Xiaomi logo, a hard reset is required, which simulates battery extraction but doesnβt result in data loss.
For forced reboot:
- Hold the Power + Volume button at the same time.
- Hold them for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out and vibration starts.
- Release the buttons and the phone will automatically restart.
If the device then freezes on the logo again, this may indicate damage to the system files, in which case you will need to flash through Fastboot (more about this below).
Make sure your phone is at least 20% charged.
Disconnect all cables (charging, headphones)
Remember the sequence of buttons: Power + Volume Up
Donβt release the buttons before 10 seconds, even if the screen is out.-->
3.Reboot to Recovery Mode (for diagnosis)
Recovery mode on Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro allows you to reset, clear the cache or install the update manually.
- Turn off the phone (if it freezes, perform a forced reboot, as in the previous section).
- Hold Power + Volume Up until the Mi logo appears.
- Release the Power button, but keep Volume Up until the Recovery menu appears.
From the Recovery menu, you can select:
- π Reboot - a normal reboot.
- π§Ή Wipe Data β reset to factory settings (deletes all data!).
- π¦ Apply update β installing firmware from a memory card.
β οΈ Note: On some versions MIUI For the Mi 9 Pro, the Wipe Data item may be called Factory Reset. After the reset, the phone will require you to enter a Mi Account if the binding was previously enabled!
What happens if Recovery does not open?
4.Reboot via Fastboot (for power users)
If the Mi 9 Pro does not turn on or is constantly restarted (bootloop), you may need to reboot to Fastboot mode. This method is used to flash, unlock the bootloader or restore the system.
How to log in to Fastboot:
- Turn off your phone (if necessary).
- Press the power + Volume reduction for 5-7 seconds.
- Release the buttons when a hare in a hat-eared hat appears on the screen (Fastboot logo).
Then connect your phone to your PC and use the ADB or Mi Flash Tool commands to recover. For example, to simply restart your device from Fastboot, type in the command line:
fastboot reboot| Team team. | Description | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| fastboot reboot | A normal reboot. | After successful firmware or diagnosis |
| fastboot reboot recovery | Reboot to Recovery | To reset or install an update |
| fastboot reboot bootloader | Reboot the loader | If you need to re-enter the Fastboot |
| fastboot oem edl | Transition to EDL mode | Restore the bricks (for the experienced ones only!) |
π‘
If the phone is back on Fastboot after fastboot reboot, it is a sign of a damaged bootloader, in which case you will need to completely flash through the Mi Flash Tool with a choice of clean all option.
5. Automatic reboot on schedule
MIUI allows you to set up automatic reboot of the phone at a given time, which is useful for cleaning the cache and preventing slowdowns, to activate the function:
- Open Settings β Advanced settings β Reboot on schedule.
- Activate the Automatic Reboot Switch.
- Choose the days of the week and the time (night time is recommended, for example, 3:00).
The optimal automatic reboot frequency is 1 every 2-3 days, which helps to avoid the accumulation of temporary files that can lead to lags.
β οΈ Note: On the Mi 9 Pro with the unlocked bootloader, the automatic reboot can knock down Magisk or Xposed settings. If you use root rights, turn off this feature.
π‘
Automatic reboot does not replace a full reset, but it helps maintain system stability without data loss.
6.What to do if the reboot does not help?
If after all the manipulations Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro still:
- π Hangs on the Mi logo.
- π΅ Not at all (black screen).
- π₯ Overheats and turns off.
...the cause could be a hardware malfunction or a major software failure.
| Symptoms. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Hanging on the logo | System partition damaged | Fastboot or EDL to Fastboot |
| Black screen, no reaction. | Failure of the battery or board | Tester check, battery replacement |
| Overheating and shutdown | Closing on the motherboard | Diagnostics at the service center |
| Cyclical reboot | Firmware-to-kernel conflict | Install a stable version of MIUI through Recovery |
If you are not sure about your skills, you should contact Xiaomiβs service center. original parts are still available for the Mi 9 Pro, despite the age of the model.
