This article covers all possible Redmi 4X reboot scenarios, from a standard soft reset to a forced reset via Recovery or hardware buttons. We will also break down typical errors (such as endless download after an update) and give a checklist to diagnose malfunctions. If your smartphone has turned into a brick, donβt panic: 8 out of 10 times it can be brought back to life without going to the service center.
β οΈ Important: If Redmi 4X does not respond to any of the described methods, the problem can be hardware (for example, damaged the plume of the power button or the charging controller). In this case, diagnostics are required in the service - self-attempts to repair without experience often aggravate the situation.
1. Standard reboot (soft restet)
The safest and most recommended way is a software reboot via the MIUI menu. It is suitable if the smartphone responds to touch, but works unstable (brakes, overheats, applications fly out).
How to do this:
- Press and hold the power button (located on the right end of the case) for 2-3 seconds.
- In the menu that appears, select Reboot (or Restart if the system is in English).
- Confirm the action if necessary.
β Pros of the method: does not delete data, does not reset settings, is safe for the system.
β Cons: it will not help if the screen does not respond or the smartphone is completely frozen.
π‘
If the Power button is running or pressing poorly, try using the virtual reboot button in Settings β Additional β Power button (available in MIUI 10+).
If problems persist after the reboot (for example, apps still crash), check:
- π± Free Memory: Go to Settings β Memory and free up space (less than 1GB of free space often causes lags).
- π System Updates: C Settings β The phone. β Updating the system.
- π§Ή App cache: clean it up in Settings β Annexes β Select an application β Warehouse β Clear the cache.
2. Forced reset (hard reset)
When the smartphone is completely frozen (black, unresponsive to touch, or the Mi logo is burning for more than 10 minutes), a hardware reboot is required, a technique that simulates battery extraction β it is data-safe, but can interrupt background processes (such as system upgrades).
Instructions for Redmi 4X:
- Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
- Release the button when the screen goes out (or the Mi logo appears).
- Wait for the system to fully load (it can take up to 2-3 minutes).
Critical! If the smartphone was updated via OTA (over the air) and got stuck during the installation phase of the firmware, a forced reboot can lead to a breech (inoperable state), in which case it requires flashing through the Fastboot.
Make sure your smartphone is not connected to charging | Check if the system is updated (on-screen progress indicator) | Wait 5-10 minutes β sometimes a long load is normal after updates | If the screen reacts, try the soft reset (section 1)
-->
β οΈ Warning: On some firmware (especially custom ones), long-term button retention Power may trigger Fastboot instead of rebooting. If a hare in a hat with the words Fastboot appears on the screen, release the button and try again, holding it for exactly 10 seconds.
3.Reboot via Recovery Mode
Recovery is a service recovery mode built into the Redmi 4X. It allows you to restart your smartphone even if the system is not booting, as well as perform a factory reset or manually install the update.
How to log in to Recovery:
- Turn off the smartphone (if it freezes β perform hard reset from section 2).
- Press the buttons Power + Volume up at the same time.
- Hold them until the Mi logo appears, then let them go.
- After 5-10 seconds, the Recovery menu will open (in English or Chinese).
In the Recovery menu, use the volume buttons for navigation and the Power button for confirmation.
- Select the Reboot option β Reboot to System.
- Confirm the action.
If the system doesn't boot even after rebooting through Recovery, the firmware may be damaged.
- π§ Install the update manually: download the firmware for Redmi 4X From the official Xiaomi website and select Apply update from Recovery ADB or install update.zip.
- βοΈ Reset to factory settings: Wipe Data (deletes all data!).
What happens if Recovery does not open?
4.Reboot via Fastboot
Fastboot is a firmware mode that allows you to control your smartphone from your computer via ADB. It is useful if the Redmi 4X does not boot into the system and does not respond to Recovery.
How to restart your smartphone via Fastboot:
- Turn off your smartphone.
- Press the buttons Power + Volume down until the screen with a hare in the hat (Fastboot).
- Connect your smartphone to your PC through USB-cable.
- On your computer, open the command line (Win + R β enter cmd) and execute the command: fastboot reboot
If the team is not working, check:
- π Connection USB: Try another cable or port.
- π₯οΈ Drivers: Install Mi USB Driver from the official Xiaomi website.
- π Debugging resolution: if the smartphone has ever turned on, turn on Debugging USB In Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI (press 7 times) β Developer settings.
Standard Reboot (Section 1)| Forced (Section 2)| Through Recovery (Section 3)| Through Fastboot (Section 4) | Nothing helped
-->
β οΈ Note: If Fastboot defines a smartphone as unauthorized, follow the command:
fastboot oem unlockBut remember, this will unlock the bootloader and reset all data! Read more about unlocking in the FAQ.
5. Reboot with ADB
ADB (Android Debug Bridge is a tool for debugging Android devices from a PC. It allows you to reboot Redmi 4X, Even if the screen is not responding, USB-debugging was included earlier.
Step-by-step:
- Connect your smartphone to your PC via USB.
- Open the command line and check the connection: adb devices (the serial number of the device should appear).
- Run the reboot command: adb reboot
If adb devices returns an empty list:
- π Check if the debugging is included USB (see section 4).
- π Try another one. USB-port USB 2.0 on the back of the PC).
- π₯οΈ Reinstall the drivers ADB (Download Minimal ADB and Fastboot).
You can also reboot your smartphone via ADB to Recovery or Fastboot:
adb reboot recovery // Reboot in Recovery
adb reboot bootloader // Reboot in Fastboot6. Hardware reset (if nothing helps)
If the Redmi 4X does not respond to any commands, and the screen remains black or the Mi logo burns, then hardware reset through test points is left, a method that requires disassembling the smartphone and is used only in extreme cases (for example, after a failed firmware).
β οΈ Warning: Mistakes can permanently put your smartphone out of action! if you're unsure of your skills, contact a service center.
How to perform a hardware reset:
- Turn off your smartphone (if it doesnβt react, wait for the battery to discharge).
- Remove the back cover (need a mediator or plastic shoulder blade).
- Disconnect the battery plume (gently slap the connector with a flat screwdriver).
- Find test points (two metal pads next to the battery connector, usually signed TP).
- Close them with tweezers or a screwdriver for 5-10 seconds.
- Connect the battery and try to turn on the smartphone.
After a hardware reset, the smartphone should boot into Fastboot or Recovery. You can then flash it through the Mi Flash Tool or reset it.

Hardware reset is a last resort, 95% of the time, the solution is the methods in sections 1-5. If you are not an experienced user, you should contact the service: diagnostic cost (300-500). β½) Usually lower than the price of a new smartphone.
