Xiaomi’s Redmi line of smartphones is well-deservedly popular for their value for money, but over time, even a reliable device can become unstable. Accumulation of system debris, conflicts of installed applications or a forgotten pattern lock can turn Android into a problem that requires a radical solution. In such situations, the most effective way to bring it back to life is a complete data reset, also known as Hard Reset or Factory Reset.
The return to baseline procedure completely cleans the device’s internal memory by removing all user data, settings and installed programs. Redmi 8, released on the basis of the Snapdragon 439 processor, has a fairly simple recovery architecture that allows even a beginner to perform this operation. However, it is important to understand that once the process is completed, the phone will look the same as when it is removed from the box in the store.
Before you start taking action, you need to realize that this step is irreversible for the current information on the device. All photos, contacts and messages will be destroyed without the possibility of recovery by standard Android tools, which is why preparing for the procedure is no less important than the technical reset process itself, which will be discussed later.
Preparing the device for a complete data reset
The first and most critical step is to provide a self-powered device. The data partition formatting process requires a stable voltage, and if the battery runs out at the time of writing system files, the Redmi 8 can turn into a "brick" requiring complex recovery through the programmer. Reset method through the Android settings menu
The most gentle and easy way to get Redmi 8 back to factory is directly from the operating system that works, and this is a good option if you remember the unlock password and have access to the desktop, and you need to go to the main menu and find the Settings icon, which usually looks like a gear.
In the settings list that opens, you should scroll down to About Phone, and this is where you find the basic information about the MIUI firmware version and Android version, as well as the memory management button. At the bottom of the screen or in the three-dot menu (depending on the shell version), you need to find Reset.
The system will offer several cleanup options, but we are interested in a complete cleanup of all data. Press the button "Erase all data." At this stage, Redmi 8 will request confirmation of action, you may need to enter a pattern lock or a digital pin unlock the screen to authorize the owner.

Hard Reset with Recovery Mode (Recovery Mode)
If the MIUI operating system does not boot, freezes on the logo or you forgot the lock password, the only option is to use Recovery Recovery mode. This mode works independently of the main system and allows you to manage low-level functions of the device. To log in on Redmi 8 turned off, you need to press the power button and the volume button simultaneously.
Hold both keys until the vibration and the Mi logo appear, and then the power button can be released while holding the volume button. In a few seconds, the Recovery menu will open, which is controlled by volume buttons (up/down), and the choice of item is made by the power button. In some versions of the menu, it can support touch control, but you should not rely on it.
In the main menu, select English (if not installed by default), then go to Wipe Data. The system will warn you about the loss of data and suggest you choose the type of reset. To fully return to factory settings, select the Wipe All Data option, which formats all sections of user space.

Once Confirm has been confirmed, the cleanup process will begin. Upon completion, the Data wiped successfully message will appear on the screen. To exit the recovery mode, select Reboot → Reboot to System. The device will restart and the initial Android setup will begin.
Delete your Google and Mi Account before resetting
Android and MIUI security mechanisms include FRP (Factory Reset Protection), which locks the device after a reset, requiring you to enter account data that was synchronized earlier, which is designed to protect against theft, but often creates problems for owners who forgot passwords. To avoid locking, you need to unplug accounts before the procedure begins.
To delete your Google account, go to Settings → Accounts and Sync (or just Accounts). From the list, find your Google account, click on it and select Delete Account. Similar steps should be taken for Mi Account: go to Settings → Mi Account → Sign out.

If you don’t remember the Mi Account password, restore access via i.mi.com before resetting. Otherwise, after Hard Reset, the phone will require you to enter this data at the initial setup stage, and it will be extremely difficult to get around this request without specialized equipment.
Decision and errors in discharge
During the Redmi 8 recovery process, users may encounter various technical difficulties, and one of the common problems is a cyclical restart (bootloop), where the phone constantly restarts without reaching the desktop, which may indicate damage to system files or a failed update.

After the reset procedure is successfully completed, Redmi 8 welcomes the owner with the language selection screen.
