Untieting your Mi Account from your Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 smartphone may be necessary when selling the device, transferring it to another user, or if you forget the login details. However, the procedure is often complicated due to the built-in Mi Cloud protection, which binds the phone to your account even after resetting. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to delete your account, from official to technical, including bypassing the lock via Fastboot and service tools.
It is important to consider that Redmi Note 7 (codename lavender) refers to devices with a closed ecosystem Xiaomi, where deleting an account without a password is fraught with activation of protection against theft (FRP).We will describe in detail how to avoid blocking, what data will be required for each method, and what to do if the phone requires confirmation after a reset. All instructions are relevant for MIUI 12-14 firmware and Android versions 9-11.
Why you can’t just delete your Mi Account through your settings
Many users try to untie their account through the Settings menu → Accounts → Mi Account, but they encounter errors.
- 🔒 Mi Cloud protection: even after logging out, the device remains tied to it at the firmware level.
- 📱 FRP-Lock: Redmi Note 7 includes Factory Reset Protection, which is activated after resetting if the account was not deleted correctly.
- 🔄 Limitations MIUI: In some firmware versions, the account deletion option is hidden or blocked (for example, in regional builds for China).
If you're trying to sell a phone, the new owner won't be able to use it without your login details. The only official way to delete it completely is to use the "Delete Account" feature in the password-verifying settings. But what if the password is lost or the phone is locked?
Method 1: Officially delete via settings (if you know the password)
The safest method is to delete your account directly from the phone menu, which is suitable if you have access to the Redmi Note 7 and remember the password from your Mi Account.
- Open Settings → Accounts → Mi Account.
- Click on your profile at the top of the screen.
- Select “Account Management” (or “Account Settings” in older versions of MIUI).
- Scroll down and click "Delete Account".
- Enter the password from the Mi Account and confirm the action.
- Reboot the phone and the tether will be removed.
⚠️ Note: after deleting the account, all data synced with Mi Cloud (contacts, notes, photos) will be deleted from the device. → The phone. → Backup.

Method 2: Delete via Mi Cloud (if your phone is lost or locked)
If you do not have physical access to the Redmi Note 7, but you remember the username and password from the Mi Account, you can untie the device remotely:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- Select "Devices" (or "Find Device" in the English version) from the menu.
- Find your Redmi Note 7 (can be displayed as lavender) in the list.
- Click on three dots next to the device and select "Delete Device".
- Confirm the action via SMS or email (if two-factor authentication is enabled).
Important: This method removes the device from the trusted list, but does not guarantee withdrawal. FRP-If the phone has been locked, additional confirmation may be required at the first setup.
| Method | Password required | FRP is being filmed. | It works on a locked phone. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Removal through settings | Yes. | Yes. | No. |
| Remove from Mi Cloud | Yes. | Partially. | Yes. |
| Reset via Fastboot | No. | No (FRP bypass required) | Yes. |
| Official Xiaomi Unlocker | Yeah (documents) | Yes. | Yes. |
Method 3: Fastboot Reset (for power users)
If you don’t remember the Mi Account password but are willing to risk the phone data, you can try resetting the link via Fastboot mode, a method that is suitable for Redmi Note 7 with an unlocked bootloader.
⚠️ Attention: Fastboot's wrong actions can turn your phone into a brick. If you're not sure about your skills, skip this section.
- Turn off your phone. Press the Power + Volume down buttons to enter the Fastboot.
- Connect the Redmi Note 7 to your PC via USB.
- Download and install Platform Tools (includes fastboot).
- Open the command line in the folder with fastboot and execute the command: fastboot oem clean_all
- Upon completion, type in fastboot reboot
This command resets all data, including the binding to the Mi Account. However, some Xiaomi firmwares may receive an account confirmation request (FRP) after the reboot, in which case you will need to bypass the lock through special tools (for example, Mi Account Unlock Tool).
What if Fastboot doesn’t recognize your phone?
Method 4: Official Xiaomi unlocker (for locked phones)
If the Redmi Note 7 is locked because of a forgotten password or FRP, Xiaomi provides the official unlock tool, the Mi Unlock Tool.
- 📄 Documents confirming the purchase of the phone (check, warranty card, box with IMEI).
- 📧 Email linked to Mi Account (if an account has been created).
- ⏳ Time: processing of the request can take up to 72 hours.
Instructions:
- Download Mi Unlock Tool from the official website.
- Sign in to the tool under the same Mi Account that is linked to the phone.
- Connect the Redmi Note 7 in Fastboot mode (as in Method 3).
- Follow the instructions of the program. If you request documents, download them through the form on the Xiaomi website.
⚠️ Note: Xiaomi may refuse to unlock if the phone is listed in the database of stolen devices or if the documents are suspicious, in this case, you only need to contact the service center with proof of purchase.
💡
If you bought the Redmi Note 7 handheld, ask the seller for a check or a picture of the box with IMEI. Without this data, official unlocking is impossible.
Method 5: Bypass FRP through service codes (for MIUI firmware 12 and below)
On the old versions. MIUI (before 12.5) there was a method of circumvention FRP-This method does not work on all devices and can be closed in new updates, but it is worth trying:
- On the lock screen, enter any password 5 times until the message "Repeat in 30 seconds" appears.
- Click "Emergency Call" and dial ##4636##.
- In the menu that opens, select “Phone Information”.
- Hold any line with data (such as “Operation Time”) until the copy menu appears.
- Select "Share" and send data to "Notes" or "Messages".
- In the app that opens, go to Settings → Additional → Reset settings.
This method bypasses the Mi Account request after a reset, but it doesn’t work on all versions of MIUI. On the Redmi Note 7 with MIUI 13/14 firmware, the odds are minimal – Xiaomi has closed this vulnerability.
What to do if nothing helps: alternative solutions
If all of these methods fail, radical measures remain:
- 🔧 Flip-through EDL: It requires special equipment (Qualcomm) HS-USB QDLoader 9008) and knowledge of working with the Mi Flash Tool.
- 🛠️ Contact the service center: official Xiaomi centers can remove the binding for a fee (from 1000 to 3000 rubles), but will require documents for the phone.
- 📱 Use of third-party services: there are paid services on the Internet to delete Mi Account (for example, through DC-Unlocker), but there is a high risk of fraud.
⚠️ Attention: Flashing through EDL Cancellation of the warranty and may result in loss IMEI. If the phone is bought on credit or leasing, such manipulations can be regarded as an attempt to cheat.
💡
Before drastic measures, assess the risks: data loss, blocking IMEI or turning the phone into a brick can make it unusable.
