Why not just delete your Google account with Xiaomi?
Xiaomi Redmi 9 runs on Android with a proprietary MIUI shell that is closely integrated with Google services. Deleting an account directly through settings is often blocked by the system because of Factory Reset Protection (FRP) โ reset protection to factory settings. This security measure prevents data theft when a device is lost, but creates difficulties for legal owners.
If you have tried to delete your account through Settings โ Accounts. โ Google received the message โPassword required after resetโ โ this means that the device is activated FRP, You can't delete it without doing something, and in this article, we'll look at all the ways you can unload your account, including bypassing it. FRP, Recovery reset and use ADB-team.
It is important to understand that the procedure differs depending on the version of MIUI and the status of the device (whether the bootloader is unlocked). On Redmi 9 with MIUI 12-14 firmware, some methods may not work, we will warn you about this in advance.
Method 1: Standard removal through settings (if FRP is not active)
If you havenโt reset your account and remember your password, try deleting it in the standard way, which only works when FRP is disabled or if your phone is not tied to your account after the reset.
- Open the settings (cog icon).
- Go to Accounts and Synchronization โ Google.
- Select the appropriate account (if there are several).
- Click Delete your account and confirm the action.
If the system then requests a password when you next sign in to the Play Market or Gmail, you may not have your account deleted completely, and you will need one of the alternative methods described below.
Backup your data | Remember your password from Google | Check battery power (minimum 50%) | Disable two-factor authentication (if any)
-->
Method 2: Reset via Recovery Mode (without password)
If standard deletion is not available and the phone is not locked with a pattern lock, you can perform a hard reset via Restore mode, which deletes all data, including apps, photos and settings, but resets the link to Google.
Instructions for Xiaomi Redmi 9:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power + Volume buttons up at the same time and hold for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- In the Recovery menu, select Wipe Data (use volume buttons for navigation, power button for confirmation).
- Confirm the reset by selecting Wipe All Data.
- After completion, select Reboot.
What if the phone asks for an old account after a reset?
โ ๏ธ Note: On some versions MIUI 13+ Recovery reset does not turn off FRP. If after the reboot there is a request to enter an old account, use the method with ADB Or go to the service center.
Method 3: Delete your account via Mi Cloud (if your phone is lost or locked)
If you donโt have physical access to your phone, but you remember the data from Mi Account (a Xiaomi account), you can remotely break communication with your Google account via the i.cloud.com web interface.
Step-by-step:
- Go to i.mi.com and log in.
- In the Devices section, find your Redmi 9.
- Press Find the device. โ Erase the data.
- Confirm the action via SMS or email.
This method only works if:
- ๐น The phone is connected to the Internet (mobile network or Wi-Fi).
- ๐น Find the device in the Mi Cloud settings.
- ๐น You have access to email/SMS confirm.
| Method | Password required | Deletes the data. | It works with FRP. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard removal | Yes. | No. | No. |
| Reset via Recovery | No. | Yes. | Partially. |
| Mi Cloud (remote) | Yeah (Mi Account) | Yes. | Yes. |
| ADB-team | No. | No. | Yes. |
Method 4: Bypassing FRP through ADB (for advanced users)
If the phone requires you to enter your old account data after reset, and there are no other ways, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires a computer and basic command line knowledge.
What you need:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Computer with Windows/Linux/macOS.
- ๐ USB-cable (original).
- ๐ฅ Installed drivers ADB and Fastboot.
- ๐ง Included debugging by USB (If the phone is not blocked).
Instructions:
- Download ADB Tools and unpack the archive.
- Connect Redmi 9 to your computer.
- Open the command line in the ADB folder and do:
adb shell content insert --uri content://settings/secure --bind name:s:user_setup_complete --bind value:s:1
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.gsf.login/
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.gsf.login.LoginActivityIf the commands are successful, the phone will restart, and you can add a new Google account, and if there is a device unauthorized error, then debugging over USB is not enabled, you will need to unlock the bootloader.
๐ก
If ADB doesnโt recognize the device, try reinstalling the drivers in Device Manager (select โUpdate Driverโ โ โSearch on this computerโ โ specify the folder with ADB).
Method 5: Official Xiaomi unlocker (for locked phones)
If you bought Redmi 9 with your hands and the previous owner did not untidy the account, and FRP is active, you can use the official Mi Account Unlock Tool.
How it works:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com.
- Select Unlock Device.
- Enter the IMEI phone (you can find out via *#06# or on the box).
- Download the documents confirming the purchase (check, purchase agreement).
- Wait for the response from the support (usually 1-3 days).
Once the request is approved, Xiaomi will send you an unblocking instruction, which is 100% legal, but only suitable for confirmed owners.
โ ๏ธ Note: Do not use unofficial services to unlock FRP! Many of them are fraudulent and can steal data or lock the phone permanently. The official Xiaomi tool is the only safe way to do so.
What do you do if nothing helps?
If all of these methods fail, there are two options:
- Contact the Xiaomi service center โ by providing documents for the phone, specialists will unlock through official channels.
- Reflash the phone โ installing custom firmware (like LineageOS) bypasses FRP, but requires unlocking the bootloader and may take away warranty.
Flashing is an extreme method, because:
- ๐ง Requires unlocking Bootloader (on Redmi) 9 It takes up 7-14 Waiting for confirmation from Xiaomi).
- ๐ Resets all data without recovery.
- โ ๏ธ Can lead to a brick (breakdown) of the device in case of errors.
๐ก
If the phone is warranty, do not resort to flashing - this will void warranty obligations.
