Desktop protection on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is a built-in MIUI feature that blocks random changes to wallpaper, widgets and icon locations, most often activated after a system update, reset or when using the For Kids mode. Users are faced with the message “Changes are locked. Unlock in settings”, but do not always understand where to look for this option.

Why is Xiaomi Redmi blocked desktop?

Method 3: Resetting time limits (for MIUI 14+)
If desktop protection is enabled through parental controls or a user profile, it can be reset by removing the time constraints, which is suitable for devices with multiple accounts.
Step-by-step:
- Open Settings → Accounts and Synchronization.
- Choose your Mi Account profile.
- Go to Device Management → Temporary restrictions.
- Find the Blocking interface and click Remove the restriction.
- Confirm the action with a password from Mi Account.
After that, all restrictions on changing the desktop will be removed. If there is no Time Limits, then the protection is activated at the system level - use Method 1.
