The child mode on Xiaomi devices is a useful feature for content control, but sometimes it becomes an obstacle to full use of the technology. Users face situations when they have forgotten the password from parental control, purchased a used device with activated restrictions or simply wanted to temporarily disable protection. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to remove restrictions on smartphones with MIUI, Mi TVs and Mi Box consoles, including workarounds for cases when standard methods do not work.
It is important to understand that the procedure differs depending on the type of device and firmware version. For example, on Xiaomi TVs 2023-2026 release algorithm reset changed compared to models 2020-2022 due to tightening of security policy, we took into account these nuances and collected instructions that work on the latest versions of MIUI 14/15 and PatchWall 4.0+.
1. Standard way to disconnect on Xiaomi smartphones
On shelled smartphones MIUI Child Mode is implemented through Parental Control, which is integrated into the security settings. PIN-code, the procedure will take no more than a minute:
- Open Settings β Applications β Parental Controls.
- Enter your current password (1234 or the ownerβs date of birth is often used by default).
- Go to the Child Profile section and select the option to Delete Profile.
- Confirm the action by entering the password again.
If your password is lost, use alternative methods in the following sections: Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and later models may require additional authentication through Mi Account β we will discuss this below.
2. reset the password of parental control through Mi Account
Since 2023, Xiaomi has tied parental controls to its Mi Account, making it harder to bypass security, but also adding a legal way to restore access.
- πΉ The device is linked to your Mi Account (you have logged in before).
- πΉ On the smartphone enabled data synchronization.
- πΉ You have access to an email or phone linked to your account.
Instructions:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- In the Devices section, find your smartphone and select Parental Controls Management.
- Follow the instructions for resetting your password β the system will send a confirmation code to your mail or SMS.
- After resetting, the password on the device will be updated within 5-10 minutes (an Internet connection is required).
π‘
If you donβt have access to your linked phone number, try to restore Mi Account via backup email. To do this, click Forgot Password on the login page and select the recovery option via email.
On 2026 Mi TVs Q2 and Mi TV A2, this method works partially: you can reset your password, but you will need an additional reset via the service menu to completely disable the restrictions (see section 4).
3. bypassing the child mode on Xiaomi TVs
Xiaomi PatchWall TVs have a more stringent parental control system than smartphones. If the standard password (0000, 1234 or 6543) doesn't work, try the following ways:
Method 1: Reset via service menu (for 2020-2023 models)
This method works on Mi TV 4S, Mi TV 5 and similar models:
- Turn off the TV remote.
- Press the Menu + Volume Down buttons on the remote and hold for 10 seconds.
- In the menu that appears, select Factory Reset (use volume buttons for navigation).
- Confirm the reset - the TV will reboot with factory settings.
What to do if the service menu is not opened?
Method 2: Firmware rollback (for models 2026)
On new PatchWall 4.0+ TVs, the service menu is blocked, in which case the USB firmware rollback will help:
- π Download the old version of the firmware (for example, PatchWall 3.5) from the official Xiaomi website.
- π Unclose the file and copy it to the root. USB-The storage device (the file name must be) update.zip).
- π Connect the flash drive to the TV, go to Settings β About the device β Update and select Local Update.

-->
Warning: After the firmware rollback, some features, such as support for new streaming services or voice assistant, may disappear.
4.Removal of restrictions on Mi Box and Mi Stick
On Xiaomi, the children's mode is implemented through the Google Family Link app (on new models) or built-in settings (on old ones).
For the Mi Box S (2018-2022)
- Go to Settings β Device β Parental Controls.
- Enter the standard password 3368 (works on most devices).
- Turn off restrictions or reset your password through your Mi Account.
For the Mi Box 4K (2023-2026)
The new models are using Google Family Link:
- π± Install Family Link app on your smartphone.
- π Connect to the same Google account as you do on the console.
- π In the application settings, find the Mi Box and remove the restrictions.
If the console was purchased from hand and tied to someone elseβs account, the only way is a complete reset via Recovery Mode:
- Turn off the power to the console.
- Press the OK button on the remote and connect the power.
- Hold the button until the Recovery menu appears.
- Select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm.
5. Alternative methods (if nothing helps)
If the standard methods donβt work, try the following:
Method 1: Use of ADB (for advanced users)

6. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When trying to turn off child mode, users often face typical problems, and we've collected the most common ones and ways to solve them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Password is not suitable, although entered correctly | Sync failure with Mi Account | Restart the device and check the internet connection |
| Service menu not opened | New firmware version blocks button combinations | Use ADB or roll back firmware |
| After the reset, there were restrictions | Incomplete reset (Mi Account data saved) | Reset through Recovery Mode |
| Family Link does not find the device | The prefix is linked to another Google account | Reset the settings to the consoles to the factory |
Important: Xiaomi TVs may require resetting Wi-Fi and logging into streaming services (Netflix, Kinopoisk, etc.) after resetting via the service menu.
π‘
If the device was bought with your hands, make sure it is not tied to someone elseβs Mi Account or Google accounts before resetting β this can block access to the features after resetting.
7.Safety after child mode is disabled
After the restrictions are lifted, we recommend:
- π Set a new password for parental control (write it down in a secure location).
- π± Set up a backup email for Mi Account.
- π‘οΈ Install alternative control apps (e.g. Google Family Link or Kaspersky Safe Kids).

- Select a time limit and set acceptable intervals.
