Locking the screen on the Xiaomi Redmi 9T is a necessary security measure, but sometimes it becomes a hindrance, for example, when a smartphone is used at home as a media player, or if you forget the pattern lock, in this article we will discuss all possible ways to disable the lock, from standard settings to radical methods like reset to factory settings.
It's important to understand that removing the lock completely reduces the protection of personal data, and if you do, choose the method depending on the situation: you know the password or not, whether you have access to Mi Account, whether you are ready for data loss, we will look at options for different scenarios, with and without file retention.
Before you start, check the MIUI version on your Redmi 9T. Some methods may not work on older firmware (below MIUI 12) or custom builds. Also note that after disabling the lock, some features (such as Mi Pay or banking apps) may require reconfiguration.
1. disable the lock through settings (if you know the password)
The easiest and safest way is to remove the lock through the settings menu, which is suitable if you remember the current one. PIN-A code, password or pattern lock, and it takes no more than a minute to process and will not affect the memory of the device.
Algorithm of action:
- Unlock the screen in the usual way (enter a password or hold a pattern lock).
- Go to Settings. β Passwords and security.
- Select the option Lock the screen.
- Enter the current password for confirmation.
- Click Remove screen lock and confirm the action.
If you do not have the option to delete the lock, then your device has activated the binding to Mi Account, in which case the system will require you to enter the username and password from the Xiaomi account to confirm your identity, this is an additional security measure that can be disabled in advance in the account settings.

Note that some versions of MIUI may still have a request to enter a password when you turn on the device, due to Android security policy. To remove it completely, restart your smartphone.
2.Removal of the lock via ADB (without data loss)
If the standard method didnβt work (for example, due to a glitch in the settings), you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires pre-activation of USB Debugging and is only suitable for users who have access to the computer, the main advantage is the preservation of all data on the device.
Step-by-step:
- Download and install ADB Tools on PC.
- Activate Developer Mode on Redmi 9T: Go to Settings β About Phone. Click 7 times on MIUI Version until you become a developer!

Connect your smartphone to your PC via cable (use the original cord!) and confirm your trust in your computer on the device screen.
ADB
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.keyguardRedmi 9T
What if the ADB canβt see the device?
Note: Once com.android.keyguard is removed, some security features (such as fingerprint or facial recognition) may stop working, and youβll have to reset your smartphone to factory settings to get them back.
β οΈ Note: Some banking applications (Sberbank, Tinkoff) can block access if they detect that the screen is not locked.
3. reset to factory settings (if you forgot the password)
If you can't remember your password and can't unlock the Redmi 9T, the only reliable way is to completely reset your device, including photos, contacts and apps, and only use it as a last resort!
How to perform the reset:
- Turn off your smartphone.
- Press the Volume Up + Power buttons at the same time and hold for 10-15 seconds until the Mi logo appears.
- Release the buttons β you will be taken to the Recovery Mode menu (use the volume buttons for navigation, the power button for selection).
- Select the Wipe Data option β Wipe All Data.
- Confirm the action, wait for the process to complete and restart the device (Reboot).
Instructions:
- On the lock screen, click Forgot Password? (or Forgot Password?).
- Choose the recovery method through Mi Account.
- Enter your username (email or phone) and password from your Xiaomi account.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to reset the lock.
If the system requests confirmation by SMS or email, check the Spam folder - sometimes emails from Xiaomi get there. After successful unlocking, we recommend you immediately configure a new one. PIN-finger-print.
β οΈ Note: Unlocking feature via Mi Account may not be available if the device has custom firmware installed or cloud sync is disabled.
5. Alternative methods (for experienced users)
If none of the above methods worked, you can try more complex options, which require technical skills and can lead to loss of warranty or failure of the device.
Method 1: Fastboot firmware
- π§ Download the official firmware for Redmi 9T (codename lime from Xiaomi Firmware Updater.
- π₯οΈ Install the Mi Flash Tool on PC.
- π± Transfer the smartphone to Fastboot mode (clip Volume down) + Nutrition).

Method 2: Using TWRP
If Redmi 9T has a custom TWRP recap, you can manually delete the lock files:

- Delete files: /data/system/gesture.key /data/system/password.key /data/system/locksettings.db

6.What to do after the lock is turned off?
After successfully removing the screen lock, we recommend that you follow several steps to ensure the safety and stability of the Redmi 9T:
Step 1: Set up alternative protection

- Go to Settings β Additional β Recovery and Reset.
- Choose Restore from Mi Cloud or connect to a Google account.
