The call log on Xiaomi smartphones can contain hundreds of records of incoming, outgoing and missed calls, which accumulates over time, takes up space in the deviceβs memory and creates privacy problems, and clearing the history is especially important for those who often hand over the phone to colleagues, sell the device or just want to keep the system in order.
Unlike other manufacturers, MIUI offers several unique ways to manage the call log, from standard deletion through the Phone app to hidden functions through Security Settings. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for the 2020-2026 models, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13 and others running on MIUI 13/14 and HyperOS.
1. Standard method: cleaning through the application "Phone"
The most obvious and quickest method is to use a built-in call app, which is suitable for clearing the entire history or selectively deleting individual records, and works on all versions of MIUI and HyperOS without any additional settings.
Instructions:
- π± Open the Phone app (the tube icon on the home screen).
- π Go to the Journal tab (usually in the bottom menu).
- βοΈ Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Delete Call Log.
- ποΈ Confirm the action by pressing OK in the dialog window.
If you only need to delete specific entries, press your finger on the number in the log, then select other entries (if necessary) and click Delete (basket icon).

β οΈ Note: This method only removes the recordings from your device. If you have Google Contacts or Mi Cloud enabled, your call history may be saved to the cloud. To delete it completely, you will need to clear the data in the relevant service.
2. Cleaning through the "Settings" of the phone
An alternative way is to use Xiaomiβs system settings, which is useful if the Phone app is unstable or you prefer to manage data through a central interface.
Step-by-step:
- Open the settings (cog icon).
- Go to the Appendix section β Application management.
- In the search bar, enter the phone and select the application.
- Press Warehouse. β Clear the data.
- Choose Clear Call Log (not to be confused with Clear Cache!).
This method removes the entire history without the possibility of selective cleaning, and it also resets some settings of the Phone application, such as quick dial parameters.

3. Remove History from Mi Cloud (for synchronized data)
If your Xiaomi has Mi Cloud sync enabled, a standard log cleanup on your phone wonβt remove data from the cloud. It will remain available on other devices connected to the same Mi Account.
To completely erase history, including cloud-based copies:
- π Go to i.mi.com and log in.
- π Select the Devices section β Call magazine.
- ποΈ Click Delete All or select specific records.
- π Confirm the action through SMS-code (if two-factor authentication is enabled).
Important: Once cleaned through Mi Cloud, data will be deleted from all devices associated with the account, and it will not be possible to restore it.
π‘
Before mass deletion, export important numbers to the VCF file. To do this, click on the Mi Cloud Contact Export β Call Log (if the feature is available for your region).
4. Cleaning through Safe Mode (if the phone brakes)
If your Xiaomi is slow to run due to a crowded call log (for example, on Redmi 9A or POCO M3 models with limited memory), you can use Safe Mode. This mode only loads system applications, which allows you to clear data without interference from third-party software.
How to activate Safe Mode and delete the log:
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the Power button until the Xiaomi logo appears.
- Release the power button and immediately press Volume Down by holding until loading into Safe Mode (there will be a caption at the bottom of the screen).
- Open the Phone app and clean the log in the standard way (see Section 1).
- Restart the device to exit Safe Mode.
β οΈ Warning: Safe Mode disabled all third-party apps, including Google widgets and services. Do not try to update software or change system files in this mode - this may cause crashes.
5. Resetting the settings of the "Phone" application (radical method)
If the call log is not cleaned in standard ways (for example, due to a failure in MIUI), you can reset the settings of the Phone application to the factory, which will delete the entire history, as well as:
- π Reset the settings of the fast dial.
- π Remove saved numbers for emergency calls.
- π¨ Returns the standard theme of the application interface.
Instructions:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the phone and open its settings.
- Press Warehouse. β Management of space.
- Choose Reset Settings (not to be confused with Clear Data!).
What to do if the Reset button is inactive?
6. Automatic Log Cleaning (MIUI setting)
MIUI 14 and HyperOS have a feature that automatically deletes old entries from the call log, which is useful if you donβt want to manually clear your history, but you donβt want to store data for years.
How to set up:
- π± Open the Settings. β Annexes β Phone.
- π Go to Auto Cleanup (or Data Management on some models).
- ποΈ Select storage period: 30 days, 90 days or 1 year.
- β Activate the Auto Cleanup switch.
Once activated, the system will automatically delete records older than the chosen timeframe, which works independently of cloud sync, so the data will be cleared on both the device and Mi Cloud (if sync is enabled).

Auto-cleaning doesn't affect favorites or numbers marked as important. To exclude a number from auto-deleting, add it to your contacts or mark it with an asterisk in your log.
