Xiaomi Redmi 6 is one of the brandโs most popular budget smartphones, but even years after its release, owners are faced with the need to clean the call log. The reasons range from basic privacy to freeing up memory before selling the device. In this article, we will discuss all possible methods to delete the history of calls, including little-known MIUI features that work even on outdated versions of the firmware.
It is important to understand that simply clicking "Delete" in the Phone application does not always guarantee complete data erasure. Residual files can be stored in the system cache or backups of Mi Cloud. We tested each method on Redmi 6 with MIUI 10-12 (relevant for all modifications: MZB6258IN, MZB6259IN, etc.) and identified those that work without root rights and loss of user data.
1. Standard cleaning through the Phone application
The most obvious, but not always effective, way is to delete individual records or the entire story at a time.
To delete one call:
- Open the phone application (icon with a handset).
- Go to the Journal tab (in the lower menu).
- Find the desired record and make a long press on it.
- In the upper right corner, the basket icon will appear - click it and confirm the action.
To clean the journal completely:
- ๐ฑ Open the Journal in the Phone application.
- ๐ Press three points (โฎ) top-right.
- ๐๏ธ Select Delete Call Log.
- โ Confirm the action in the dialog window.
๐ก
If after cleaning, the records continue to appear, check the Spam tab in the log - there may remain old data.
โ ๏ธ Note: This method does not delete call backups to Mi Cloud. If synchronization is enabled, data can be restored after a system reboot or update.
2. Remove through System Settings
An alternative way that is suitable for users who prefer to work through Settings is not only to clean the log, but also to disable its backup:
Instructions:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- In the search bar, enter the Phone and select the system application.
- Open the Memory section (or the Storage in newer versions of MIUI).
- Click Clear Data (not to be confused with Clear Cache!).
- Confirm action. This will delete the entire call log, but save the application settings.
We also recommend that you turn off call synchronization:
- ๐ Go to Settings. โ Xiaomi account โ Mi Cloud.
- ๐ฑ Find the Call Log and turn off the slider.
- ๐๏ธ Click Delete Data from the Cloud if it is stored there.

3. Hidden MIUI function: Cleaning through Developer Mode
A little-known method that works even on Redmi 6 with older versions of MIUI, allows you to reset the call log through debugging settings, bypassing standard menus, and is suitable for cases where the Phone app freezes or does not respond to commands.
Algorithm of action:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings โ About Phone. 7 times click on the MIUI version (you will be notified "You became a developer").

โ ๏ธ Note: This method deletes all contact data, including saved numbers and groups. Before using, export contacts to.vcf via Settings โ System system โ Imports/Exports.
4.Use of file manager (for experienced users)
If standard methods don't work, you can manually delete the log through system files, which requires caution, as improper actions can cause malfunctions in the phone, and is suitable for Redmi 6 with unlocked bootloader or root rights.
Step-by-step:
- ๐ Install a file manager with access to system folders (e.g. MiXplorer or Root Explorer).
- ๐ Cross the path: /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db It is a database where all calls and contacts are stored.
- ๐๏ธ Make a backup copy of the file (copy it on the SD-map).
- ๐งน Delete the original file contacts2.db.
- ๐ Reboot the phone. The system will create a new empty file.
After this procedure, the call log will be completely empty, but all contacts will also disappear. Restore them from a backup via Settings โ Google โ Restore contacts.

5. Reset to factory settings (last resort)
If the call log is not cleared by any of the above methods, you have to completely reset your device, a radical solution that removes all data from your phone, including apps, photos and settings, and use it only before selling your device or if you have a major crash.
How to perform the reset:
- Create a backup copy of important data (contacts, photos, messages).
- Go to Settings โ Additional โ Recovery and Reset.
- Select Reset (or Erase All Data).
- Enter the pattern lock/PIN-code if the system requests.
- Confirm action. The phone will restart and start the cleaning process (it will take 5-10 minutes).
Once reset, Redmi 6 will return to the out-of-the-box state, and the call log will be empty, but you will have to reconfigure all settings, including Google and Xiaomi accounts.

Resetting to factory settings is the only way to guarantee that you will remove all traces of calls, including hidden system logs.
Alternative methods: third-party applications
If you don't just want to clean the log, but you need to automatically delete old records or hide certain numbers, you can use third-party utilities.
| Annex | Functions | Need root? | Reference (APK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call Logs Cleaner | Autocleaning on schedule, spam filtering | โ No. | APKCombo |
| History Eraser | Deleting calls, SMS, browser history | โ No. | Uptodown |
| Call Control | Blocking numbers + cleaning logs | โ Yes (for deep cleaning) | APKPure |
Advantages of third-party applications:
- ๐ Automatic cleaning on schedule (for example, once a week).
- ๐ Number filtering (only spam or hidden calls can be deleted).
- ๐ Additional protection against surveillance (some applications encrypt logs).
Disadvantages:
- โ ๏ธ Risk of installing malware (download) APK only from verified sources).
- ๐ฑ Consumption of additional memory and battery charge.
- ๐ง Possible conflicts with system applications MIUI.
Comparison of methods: which one to choose?
To determine the best way, we will evaluate each of them according to the key criteria:
| Method | Speed. | Cleaning guarantee | Risks. | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard cleaning | โญโญโญโญโญ | โญโญ (There are cloud copies) | No. | Quickly delete individual records |
| System settings | โญโญโญโญ | โญโญโญ (removes local data) | Resetting the phone settings | Complete cleaning without root |
| Developer mode | โญโญโญ | โญโญโญโญ (deletes system files) | Loss of contact | Deep cleaning without discharge |
| File manager | โญโญ | โญโญโญโญโญ (clean-up) | High (risk of system damage) | Experienced users with root |
| Reset to factory | โญ | โญโญโญโญโญ (complete removal) | Loss of all data | Preparation for sale |
For most Redmi 6 users, the best solution is a combination of standard cleaning + disabling synchronization with the Mi Cloud. If you want to ensure that all traces are removed, use the factory reset.
