Forgotten. PIN-A code or pattern lock on Xiaomi and now the phone has turned into a βbrickβ? the situation is familiar to millions of users β according to statistics, one in five smartphone owners at least once blocked themselves because of the loss of a password. Fortunately, Xiaomi offers several official and informal ways to unlock, but not all of them are safe for your data. 7 working methods β from a simple reset via Mi Account to a complex bypass of locking through Fastboot, including nuances for models with a high-performance system. MIUI 12-14.
It's important to understand that some methods lead to complete data cleanup (photos, contacts, messages), others allow you to save information - it all depends on the chosen path. We will also uncover the myths about the "magic unlock codes" and explain why methods like calling a locked phone or using emergency call mode only work in 1% of cases and then on old firmware until 2019. If your Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5 requires you to enter a password after rebooting, don't panic, there is a solution!
1 Unlocking through Mi Account (official method)
Xiaomiβs most reliable and recommended method is to use a tied Mi Account, which works on all models, starting with the Redmi 4X (2017) and later, provided that:
- π± The phone is connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network)
- π You remember the username/password from Mi Account (or tied) email/phone number)
- βοΈ The settings have enabled the function Find the device (Settings) β Mi Account β Find the device)
Instructions:
- On the lock screen, tap Forgot password? (or Forgot password? on English firmware).
- Choose Unblock with Mi Account.
- Enter the login (email or phone number) and password from the account.
- Confirm unlocking via SMS or email (if two-factor authentication is enabled).
β οΈ Note: If you have previously disabled Find Device in Settings, this method will not work. Xiaomi can also request proof of ownership of the device through a photo of a box or check (relevant for models). POCO F5 newer).

2. Recovery Mode reset (data loss)
If the Mi Account is not tied or you don't remember the login details, you'll have a hard reset through Restore mode, which will delete all the data on the phone, including photos, apps and settings, but will return access to the device, suitable for all Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models.
Step-by-step:
- Turn off the phone with a long press of the power button.
- Press the button combination: For most models: Volume up + Power (hold 10-15 seconds) For POCO X3/X4: Volume up + Volume down + Power
Recovery

Clear Data
Confirm the action and wait for the process to be completed (5-10 minutes).
Reboot
| Xiaomi model | Combination for Recovery | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11/12 | Volume up + Nutrition | Menu in English/Chinese |
| POCO F3/F4/F5 | Volume up + Volume down + Nutrition | Requires confirmation via the power button |
| Xiaomi 12/13/14 | Volume up + Nutrition | You may need to connect to a PC to unlock the bootloader |
β οΈ Note: On new models (Xiaomi) 13T, Redmi Note 12 Pro+) After reset, you may need to enter a password from the previous Mi Account due to Factory Reset Protection (FRP). If you donβt remember your account details, your phone will remain locked!
π‘
Before resetting via Recovery, try connecting your phone to charge for 30 minutes - a discharged battery can interrupt the process and turn the device into a "brick".
3. Unlock via Fastboot (for advanced users)
The method via Fastboot is suitable if:
- π§ You have access to a computer with drivers installed ADB/Fastboot
- π₯ You can download the official firmware for your model
- π The phone has unlocked the bootloader (Bootloader)
If the bootloader is locked, you will first need to unlock it through the Mi Unlock Tool (the process takes up to 72 hours due to Xiaomi restrictions).
Instructions for unlocking:
- Install the Android SDK Platform-Tools on your PC.
- Download the phone to Fastboot mode: (a) Turn off the phone b) Press Volume down + Power (for most models) in) Connect to the PC via USB
- In the command line (on behalf of the administrator), check the connection: fastboot devices must display the serial number of the device.
- Flush the official firmware (e.g. for Redmi Note 11): fastboot flash boot.img fastboot flash system.img fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
- Reboot the phone: fastboot reboot
What if the Fastboot canβt see the device?
4. Bypassing the lock via ADB (if USB debugging is enabled)
If the phone previously had USB debugging enabled (Settings β About Phone β MIUI version β 7 taps to unlock developer mode, then Settings β Additional β For developers β USB debugging), you can try to bypass the lock via ADB.
Steps:
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB.
- Open the command line in the ADB folder and execute: adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key rm /data/system/password.key rm /data/system/locksettings.db rm /data/system/locksettings.db-wal rm /data/system/locksettings.db-shm
- Reboot your phone: adb reboot
Once rebooted, the password should be reset, but this method only works on firmware up to MIUI 12.On newer versions (MIUI 13/14) Xiaomi has closed this loophole.

5. Use of service codes (myths and reality)
There are often "secret codes" like ##3646633## or #7378423### that allegedly reset the password on the Internet. This does not work on modern Xiaomi (starting with MIUI 10), which opens the engineering menu, but does not affect the locking of the screen.
The only code that can help is ##4636## (test menu), but it's not unlock-related. Be careful: entering random service codes can:
- π΅ Reset the network settings
- π Discharge the battery (some codes run display tests)
- π« Block it. SIM-map (codes like ##7465625##)
π‘
Service codes won't unlock Xiaomi's screen - it's a myth. The only working way through codes is to check IMEI (*#06#), but it's not about password.
6. Contact the Xiaomi Service Center
If all of the above methods fail, the official service remains. Xiaomi will unlock the phone upon presentation:
- π Check or guarantee card
- π¦ Phone boxes (with serial number)
- π Passport holder
Cost of service:
| Type of unlock | Cost (β½) | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Password reset (without data loss) | 1 500 β 3 000 | 1-3 days |
| Flashing (with loss of data) | 2 000 β 4 000 | 1 day |
| Unlocking the bootloader + firmware | 3 500 β 6 000 | 2-5 days |
Please note: informal workshops may offer βunlocking in 5 minutesβ, but often this is a fraud (installing custom firmware with viruses or data theft).
7.How to avoid blocking in the future
To avoid the problem again, follow the following simple rules:
- π Use a fingerprint or facial recognition as an additional way to unlock.
- π Write it down. PIN-code to a secure location (e.g. Google Keep or Mi Cloud).
- π Regularly back up through Settings β System system β Backup.
- π Attach Mi Account and enable Find Device.
You can also configure Smart Lock (Settings β Screen Lock β Smart Lock) to automatically unlock your phone in trusted places (such as at home or work).

If youβre afraid to forget your password, install the Mi Remote app and set up unlocking via Bluetooth devices (such as the Mi Band).
